Cavs 06-07 season thread

the atmosphere for that game was a morgue.

Pat Riley always said that Game #2 of a series was the one to steal on the road. Game #1, the home crowd is too psyched, the players are jacked, and it's tough to win. Game #2 was the one to catch them napping. Tonight, the Cavs caught the Pistons and the crowd "napping" from the opening tip and didn't take advantage of it. As stupid as this sounds, a win tonight may have turned this into a 4 game series. Detroit is just looking for an excuse to lose and doing so at home tonight may have just been enough to mail in their season. I still like the Cavs in the series, but not taking this one tonight really hurts.

I have been listening to "fans" call in to this Cleveland Rants show, and it is embarassing. I read it too in the local papers when readers write in and hear it on local radio call in sports shows. Saying that Lebron is not a superstar, Lebron is not that good, Lebron is not Jordan, we should trade him, blah, blah, blah. Sometimes I wonder if Cleveland fans actually deserve a true superstar of Lebron's stature and character. Jordan did not win a Championship in his first 4 seasons, and who the hell actually said Lebron has to be Jordan? Did he play his best game tonight? No. Should he have taken that last shot? Probably. I agree with others, that if Donyell drains that 3 like he should have with that open look, everyone thinks he is genius for drawing all that attention and then kicking it out. Showing confidence in his teammates. Everyone complains when he tries to do everything himself, then they get pissed when he does not take every shot. I believe that Lebron will be back in game 2 playing his heart out. If we can take 1 of these in Detroit, I will be happy. Will they win the Series? I don't know. Can they? Yes. But I think people forget, 5 years ago, this was the worst team in the NBA.

That was indeed about the quietest Pistons crowd you're ever going to get, coupled with an abysmal performance both in taking care of the ball and shooting the ball. If the Cavs can't take that game on the road, I don't think if they'll be able to take any game from the Pistons at The Palace.

Agreed I put this problem on Lebron and Mike Brown's shoulders. Mike Brown needs to light a fire under Lebron's ass. But it ain't gonna happen.
:slappy:
Mike Brown couldn't light a fire under anybody even if you drenched them in gasoline and handed him a burning match. The only thing I'm looking forward to now is when the Cavs show the retard the door. I said it earlier, if Mike Brown is coaching this team next year, I don't give a shit about them.

That is just plain embarrassing. Nobody could ever accuse any Cleveland team of having the smartest fans. LeBron is not the problem. Hughes is not the problem. Nobody on the roster is the problem. The problem is that they have a head coach who couldn't design an offense to save his life. The Cavs have been winning on talent and talent alone. Not once do I remember watching a sinle game where I said, "damn Brown coached a hell of a game." When a team matches up with us and has a coach that can actually coach, we will struggle. Fuck Mike Brown. Fuck those goofy ass faces he makes. Fuck his inability to do anything worthwhile on the bench. I just pray that Gilbert and Ferry look at more than his W-L record. I just pray they look at the season as a whole and how in over his head Brown is. We still may have a shot in this series, but I don't really like our chances as long as that Mr. Potatohead MF'er is coaching this team.

I am finally read to talk about last night...here are my thoughts about last night...trash me at will:

1. Eric Snow should never be on the floor.
2. Gooden and Z were hitting their long jumpers last night but I worry about them falling in love with them.
3. Eric Snow should never be on the floor.
4. LeBron wasn't getting a call, especially in the fourth, but the game was being called, as Hubie Brown put it this morning, like a 70s or 80s NBA game, where you had to be a man when you went to the hole and had to finish to get a call.
5. Eric Snow should never be on the floor.
6. Sasha can't stay with Rip coming off of screens. Granted, Rip was shooting the lights out for most of the night, but he literally had to considering Prince was 1-for-the game shooting.
7. Eric Snow should never be on the floor.
8. I was glad to see some shots falling for Larry, but for the Cavs to win it is clear they need guys like Marshall, Gibson and Sasha to hit the open looks they get. Sasha did that at least once or twice last night, but Gibson and Marshall were not able to.
9. Eric Snow should never be on the floor.
10. I am totally okay with the last play. As Hubie Brown said this morning, LeBron is consistent...he may not have that killer desire to be selfish in the last moments and keep the last shot for himself. He has made it clear he will find the open man if there is one. I would have preferred he take it strong to the hole and go into OT only because the Cavs were winning ever hustle category last night...point in the paint, rebounds, second chance points, fast break points, etc. But I am okay with Marshall getting that look...if he knocks it down, James is getting showered with praise right now.
11. Eric Snow should never...ever...ever...under any circumstances...be on the floor. Give his minutes to Gibson. Make Larry play the point until he collapses. I don't care. Snow looks like an amateur dribbling the ball and running the points...and on what I believe were back to back opportunities could not finish from point blank range.

Can anybody confirm that Eric Snow and Mike Brown are not, in fact, the same person? Has anybody physically seen both Mike Brown on the bench and Eric Snow on the floor at the same time? Just some food for thought. I think we may have a conspiracy on our hands...

I agree about Eric Snow...His two layups in a row that he missed I think in the 3rd quarter, had me doing nothing but laughing my ass off, especially the one that he basically thru at the bottom of the rim...They don't guard him when he is in there, and Gibson IMO brings a lot more to the table...

As for Gooden and Z with the jumpers I have no problem with them b/c they hve been falling all playoffs, no reason to stop now...

LBJ didnt go to the basket enough to get a call...There might of been two calls that he could of got all night, but he has to be more agressive if he wants to get a call...Also the way LBJ has been shooting the ball from behind the arc I would of liked to see him take a shot or two from deep just to see if he could of stretched the lead out some when we had it...

In the second half at times it seemed like they were playing Larry on him more...I think that Larry should guard Rip and Sasha should guard Billups...

I also agree that we are going to need those guys to hit open jumpers...

As for the last shot I don't like the fact that LBJ passed it, he needs to develop that selfishness to his game to take his game and the team to the next level...

...which is where any coach worth a shit would pull his star player aside and tell him to TAKE IT TO THE FUCKING HOLE. You know, "coach" him. I'm gonna stop, I'm starting to sound like a broken record...

I also think that in a long grueling series like this that Mike Brown needs to learn how to steal minutes for LBJ on the bench...Like if we have a lead at the end of a quarter, just sit him down for a minute or 2 then leave him down for a minute or 2 depending on how the game is going to start the next quarter...That is what Phil used to do with Jordan to get him some breaks...

I'm still trying to grasp that LeBron played 45 minutes and never had to make a free throw... somebody explain that to me? I'd like the refs to explain that to me...

The one that was the most outrageous was with about 2 minutes left in the 3rd quarter. After LBJ crossed halfcourt, Hamilton was grabbing him, just trying to get the foul called instead of letting LeBron get to the rim. The no call was comical.

Those guys really swallowed their whistles for most of the night. They called it like a Game 6 or 7.

The Pistons caught a couple of breaks in the last couple of minutes of a game that could have gone either way. Rip has a shot hit the front and back of the rim before going in. Prince loses the ball starting a drive and manages to fall on it and call time out, saving a possession that they scored on with Wallace hitting a jumper. Even so, the game was decided because Billups hit his 3 and Marshall missed his.

I am so tired of Cleveland teams losing in the playoffs. I don't know which is worse getting to the playoffs and losing or not getting to the playoffs or a championship game or what ever.

Regarding Lebron's last decision to pass it out to Marshall, I think that was Lebron's decision to make. I don't know if Brown told him to pass it or not. I think Lebron saw Wallace leave Marshall open and was "afraid" that his shot might get blocked so he decided to pass it. I do not think that Brown told him not to take a shot if he had one but if he did he is stupider then I think he is already.

I will agree with everyone that Brown does not know anything when it comes to offensive basketball. I think that he was brought in because of his defensive knowledge and even that is now subject to debate. Unfortunately, I think we are stuck with him because of his two 50 win seasons. I can't see Gilbert/Ferry giving him the ax after the playoffs are over.

I cannot understand why the Cavs would draft guys like Shannon Brown and Gibson and still play a half-court offense or at least what Brown describes as an offense. The Cavs players wanted a more up-tempo offense but does Brown give it to them.

I will also put some of the blame on Ferry. He should have traded for a pure PG when he could have. Snow can't hit a shot to save his life and Hughes really is not that good either. In fact, I don't understand what all the big hype was about when the Cavs signed Hughes.

Well, I have rambled on enough. I think the Cavs blew their golden opportunity last night and if this series goes more than 5 games that will be surprised. That's it.
