Cavs 06-07 season thread

I never got to see much of Gibson when he was playing at Texas but how much better was Conley as a PG than Gibson? I know that there are not many pure PGs like Conley but just wanted how much better he was as a leader/penetrator. I would think that Gibson was a better shot but do not know that for a fact.

From what I've seen of both, Conley has Gibson beaten in ballhandling and quickness by a good way, though I'd say Boobie has a considerably better shot at this point.

I don't think their shooting ability is even close. Conley has marginally better handles(I wouldn't say significant because I can't recally boobie having many ballhandling issues throughout the year).

From what I remember of Gibson in college, Conley is a significantly better passer and is better at running an offense, but Gibson isn't asked to do that here(not yet at least).

I think Gibson has the potential to be the PG of the future, though I wouldn't mind another one to replace Eric Snow and Damon Jones.

Gibson is more of a combo guard and Conley is more of your prototypical pg.

Gibson fell somewhat in the draft due to him being undersized for the 2 position and maybe not having all the skills of the pg...

Conley has much better ability to break his guy down off the dribble and create for himself and for teammates, unlike Boobie who does more for you when he is setting up for the jump shot, but he does take care of the ball...

It is also hard to get a real good read, b/c alot of times he is in there with either snow or Hughes playing the pg and he is playing more of the 2 position...

if it's the normal starting 5, then hughes is on billups, which leaves Pavs on Rip. While Pavs did a decent job on Carter, Hamilton is much quicker, which is going to be a problem, especially when they run him off of curls and screens. I wouldn't be surprised if detroit pulled sheed and webber out a lot and made Z and gooden defend them away from the hoop.

Maybe I'm crazy, but I'd like to see Hughes guarding Hamilton to match up with his quickness, and Pavlovic guarding Billups. There's still a quickness mismatch, but with Hughes on Billups, there's also a strength mismatch. I think Pavlovic would negate that and also bother Billups with his size.

No matter what, I want to see Varejao guarding 'Sheed - just because it will piss him off.

You know I'm, sitting here thinking that I just might root for the Cavs.
I haven't cheered for an Ohio team except tOSU in about 25 years but Lebron, much to my surprise, has conducted himself in an outstanding manner and has turned out to be a much better player than I thought he would ever be.
So I might just have to be a Cavs fan.

I'm not really a Cavs fan, though I'd like to wish them good luck in their upcoming Eastern Conference Championship Series with Detroit. Nothing like an Ohio vs. Michigan battle going on but just wanted to say good luck. It would be great to see Lebron win an NBA Championship after all the hard work and heart he puts into the game.

Well, when that Lenny Wilkens-coached crew made the NBA's Eastern Conference finals, CDs were just out of their wrappers and Johnny Carson was days away from his goodbye to late-night TV.
It was 1992. LeBron James was 7.
"I wasn't even playing organized sports," he said last week.
Fifteen years later, James and the Cavaliers are again among pro basketball's final four.

During Game 5 on Wednesday at Quicken Loans Arena, at about the time when the Cavs lost interest in closing out the Nets at home and their fans left in spirit, former Cleveland great Mark Price was recognized. His picture was shown on the scoreboard as he watched from a suite.

Price received one of the loudest ovations of the night.

The former Cavs point guard had plenty of opinions about this Cavs team. The last time Cleveland made it to the Eastern Conference finals, which begin Monday at The Palace in Auburn Hills, was 1992.

LeBron James was 7.

?I don?t remember much about 1992,? James said, laughing. ?I probably wasn?t that big a Cavs fan. I was a Michael Jordan fan, though.?

Price is a fan of LeBron. But he?s a bigger fan of his Cavs.

The Cavaliers advanced to the Eastern Conference finals for the first time in 15 years, but the team and coach Mike Brown want everyone to hold off on the celebration.
Their work is not done.
Their route to their ultimate goal -- winning a championship -- now takes the Cavaliers to Detroit. But that task won't be easy because the Pistons had the best regular-season record in the East.
This seven-game series, which starts at 8 p.m. Monday at The Palace of Auburn Hills, is not like the first- and second-round against the depleted Washington Wizards or the soft inside play of the New Jersey Nets.
These are the Pistons, who are in their fifth straight year in the conference finals. "They've been here before and have experience," said Cavs forward Drew Gooden. "I've been there before in college playing in the Final Four against a team that's been there before, so I know experience plays a big factor and we can't be happy to just be going to the conference finals."

CLEVELAND -- Not even Cavaliers captain LeBron James fully understood what some of his teammates were up to lately.

For the past month and a half, several bench players such as Donyell Marshall, Eric Snow and rookie Daniel Gibson would hold highly competitive scrimmages against one another after practices and shoot-arounds. They weren't playing many minutes in games, so it was their way to stay sharp and in shape.
The players deep on the bench also got together Friday before Game 6 against the New Jersey Nets and worked up a good sweat. James came to them and asked, "What are you guys doing? We have a game tonight," Marshall said.
Now James has his answer.

A few weeks ago, the Cleveland Cavaliers' bandwagon rolled past my house. Other than a guy with a microphone screaming "On your feet, Cleveland!" and "I can't hear you!" -- if you've been to a Cavs game, you know who he is -- and some folks whose weary expressions told me they were native Clevelanders who can see a sports disaster forming 100 miles away, the cart had plenty of room.
My hunch is that as it passes today, the bandwagon will have a lot more occupants but still won't be full. Given that we're only a two-hour drive and a few million construction barrels from Cleveland, that seems a little curious.

Glad our offense stayed in the locker room...

I wish that Doug Collins would leave the announcers table and go take over for Mike Brown...He is saying the things that need to be done...The longer LBJ holds the ball on the wing, it allows Detroit to set up their defense, and he also realizes that we need to get the ball out in transistion...
