Buckeye Offensive Coordinator Discussion (merged)

Yeah, that would be the tough part (lol). He ha such a great position with such a great organization. He's being groomed for a Head Coaching spot. I doubt he gets one in the NFL for another 7-8 years at a minimum, and that would rival what Gruden accomplished.

If college head coaching were part of his dreams and career goals, then I think he couldmake that jump to a second tier major conference program after 5-6 seasons backing Tressel as the OC.

The guy will be a head coach in the future in either the NFL or college. I honestly don't think money would be a major issue at this time. He knows that he will be a head coach, he's being groomed.

The only negative part is that if he were to perform poor in this role at OSU, the jackass boo-birds will be out in full force, delaying his head coaching opps. The pipe-line seems to be - obtain the DC at OSU, then the head coaching opportunities come knocking.

On the other side, NFL head coaches only last a few seasons, unless you win regularly.

I just think he would be a perfect fit, if the money was right for him.

He said about what I expected. He's not Ditka or Mora, and this is college, so he won't throw his kids under the bus. He won't call out individuals in the media, coaches or players. If he's unhappy with someone the only way to tell is if they get less playing time. I'm sure if it was easy as changing QB's, he'd do it..he sees both in practice.

I too would like to see more of Wells and Haw, but I think Tress likes to use schnit for some reason.

That "reason" is his loyalty to his seniors. In his grand scheme, he helps develop men, not just football players, and as such rewards those seniors that have busted his ass for him, especially those who have gone out of their way to meet goals (for example, when they told Schnittker in the off-season that if he lost 15 pounds he could play tailback, which he did).

I highly admire that, but there is a time when team goals should overshadow individual rewards. Brandon Schnittker is not a tailback, plain and simple...he is a fullback who lost a lot of weight to get a chance to play tailback.

Loyalty to Srs. and Schnitt probably practices like Rudy..Haw's practice habits have been questioned and Wells is still learning kind of like Pitman last year

Yeah 8 field goals is a pretty good goal

Let's break dow his statement: "I think that's a discussion you have at times. But, you know, I'm not sure that that would interest me. We'll see, but I like being involved."

His first sentence admits that it's being talked about...that's the first I've ever seen him say that. When he says "We'll see" at the beginning of the third sentence, to me, that's tantamount to admitting it's a very serious idea. Sure, he might not be "interested" in that idea, but somethings are beyond his control, if you get my drift.

Holy cow, I actually agree with one of your posts. Just to add one more point, Tressel MAY realize that he doesn't have the talent as an offensive mind in Div 1 college football. There would be no shame in him giving up the offense. He's such a good head coach that has a great team formula, I think things would only get better.

Is it really that hard to have , both a good defense and a good offense? It looks like most college teams have one or the other. But the best teams have both, or a combo of great "O" and good enough "D"! :2004:

In who's estimation does Tressel lack this talent?

I'd say Tress is doing just fine.

Yeah, we all had high expectations for this year's team. I'm no different. But, 10 - 2 with a win over Michigan and a possible BCS bowl still alive, I'm not yet willing to call off the dogs for 2005

I understand what your saying, but our offense shouldnt be this inept with all the talent and speed we have... Thats why everyone is so disappointed.

Well, we have the damn good D. Just wish we had even a remotely "good enough" O.

It's just so hard watching this team with their offense.

I know that, I'm just saying lets not go about as if the end of the world has hit. (I know you're not advocating such insanity)

10-2 is a possibility as I said in another thread, but with the offense as it is, that 10-2 will be a serious challenge. If we were to somehow be able to rev up the offense to where we score 30+ each game, that 10-2 is all but a lock.
