Buckeye Offensive Coordinator Discussion (merged)

I've always defended the coaches since they been here on that issue (the offense). The results speak for themselves (other than the last few big games). That being said- its hard to watch schools like Texas Tech, Okie State, Minnesota, Illinois, Nw (Schools that would love to have our recruiting classes) consistantly out produce us on offense. Heck even TSUN lit up Purdue with their motley crew.....

I think Tress is awesome and hope that he stays for a long, long time. Yes, I know that we are spoiled and the coaches are a victim of their own success. Its taken me several years to be swayed, but I think that its time to add a different OC or change our recruiting strategy so that we can be even more dominant then we are today. Go-Bucks!

OC

I agree with most of the posts that say Tress is never going to force out a guy like Jim Bollman. I think "rearranging" the staff is what will likely happen. My hope is that he brings in someone that will change the culture of the offense and give a largely under achieving offensive unit its swagger back. Ohio State is never going to be a team that throws 40 times a game, for 5,000 yards a season but ranking 106th in passing, 43rd in rushing, and 97th in total offense is unacceptable for a team landing the recruits we do. I know we have a freshman quarterback and this will improve as he gets more reps but struggles on offense are not new for Buckeye teams. I don't want to completely change the offense... Just add a coach that brings a new perspective that refines what has been so dominant for the last 8 years. We can still be a defensive, special teams type of team but also have an offense attack that is balanced and capable of consistently scoring points. That said, Tress is a great coach, recruiter, and person. I trust that he will continue to do what is necessary to improve continue to compete for B10 and National Championships.
