Game Thread BCS Championship Game, tOSU vs. Florida - Jan 8th

We can search for meaning in this shocking game all we want, but I just don't think we'll ever be able to reconcile it with our experience from the rest of the year. Sometimes this happens, even to the best of teams, and there is a million reasons why. All those reasons converged tonight.

Thank you to this team for providing some of the best months of my life as a fan. Thank you to the seniors, to Tressel, and to the rest of the team. You weren't perfect, but I never expected you to be. You made me proud to be a Buckeye this year, and no way is this game going to change that.

Cheers.

Wow. What a dominant performance by Florida.

From Outside looking in:

Seemed that the Defense of OSU was confused the entire first half. Thought the O was going to make it a game, but Florida recovered beautifuly and the rest was history.

You guys had a great season. Just decided to play your worst game when it counted - happens to all great teams eventually.

Don't down your coaching staff - that's what's going on here all the time. Talent wise, not there yet - and should have beaten Auburn - but came up short ourselves. You guys just ran into a team that wanted it much more than you guys did.

Thanks for a good season.

Go Big Red!

Did it seem to anyone else that we didn't have much of a game plan on either side of the ball tonight? Maybe it was b/c we got down so quickly.

On defense it seemed like we were content to fall back in zone, putting absolutely no pressure on Leak, and letting him dink-and-dunk us for 7-8 yards each play.

On offense, it seemed like we were lost -- our line rarely giving TS time, and when it did, no receivers were open. I hate to say it, but from late in the first quarter until the end of the game, I had absolutely no confidence in our offense's ability to drive the ball down the field. And I haven't felt that way for a long time about our offense -- last time was at PSU last year.

we absolutely got destroyed! i dont think the 51 day layoff had anything to do with it. we just got hammered. i started to think that the big 10 is just an overrated conference. im emberassed to be a buckeye fan right now. we have a heisman trophy winner that didnt produce shit. he had no time to throw the ball, we couldnt run the ball, we lost teddie ginn. what else could go wrong???!!! totally disappointed. the only thing that will make me feel better is a victory at wisconsin!

Dickheads that are embarrassed to be Buckeye fans for any reason need to move on, and move the hell out of here.

Games like this make me think about 2002 and how absolutely special that year was for the Buckeyes as a team and as a fanbase.

Anything can happen when the kickoff occurs.

if I haven't said it, and I can't remember if I did or not, Congrats to the Gators team and their coaches....

Wonder if any of those national championship items for the losing teams get leaked? I bet they go for some money on ebay! Reason i bring this up is because Macy's was opening up at 11pm tonight to sell championship shirts and stuff. I guess they probably closed the doors again at 1130p!

Sounds like empathy. I think the saddest part for me was just that they never rebounded at all.
Still, this team has given us a lot and I wish them all the best of luck whether they come back, go to the NFL, or go on to do other things.

My thoughts exactly...even though we didn't really have a shot to come back and win, I still kept thinking: One nice drive for TD guys. It would've felt a little better if they just could've put one nice drive together in the second half. That was tough to watch. The guys all looked so down. If they could've just stuck in the end zone once down the stretch...oh well right?

Great season...it was a fun ride. We're all blessed to be Buckeye fans. Trust me...I live in Hawkeye country!:osu:

I hope this isn't the beginning of a downtrend in OSU football. This is just one game, and there's no shame in reaching the pinnacle of college football and coming up just short.

Guys the sky is not falling. Every program has their ups and downs but you have to remember we made it to the championship game. For all the talent USC, LSU, Oklahoma has and the better recruiting classes they did not make it this year. Yes we got our asses handled to us but it isn't like we are going to be like Indiana, Vandy, or SMU anytime soon. JT and the team had a bad night. Don't you think the feel bad about the outcome? The last couple of years this staff and players (5th yr seniors) has given us:
1 NC
A couple of Big Ten titles
Four BCS invites and three victories
Three wins over Scum
and countless memories

I think they deserve a break and the second guessing that we all "me included" like to give them. I like to thank the team especially the seniors for a great season and not only showing the nation how classy you win but how gracefully we can admit defeat.

It feels like someone took a shit in my mouth. Troy Smith is the greatest quarterback to play for tOSU and he was the best player in college football this year. For him to be remembered for this game by non-tOSU fans makes me a little sick to my stomach. Those people won't remember the phenomenal plays he made, the leadership he displayed and the credit he gave to his teammates at every turn this season. They will remember that Troy Smith won the heisman and then laid an egg in the title game. He will take the majority of the heat for the loss in the minds of those people, and probably in the ignorant media. There will be some "experts" who realize and talk about the fact that Troy Smith was not responsible for the debacle that was the 2007 national championship game, but those people will be few and far between.

As some of you have said this was still an amazing season, and every major goal except one was accomplished. It's not often you can say that. I take pride in the fact that I'm a Buckeye fan, and look forward to the next season. I hope the NFL draft is kind to the Buckeyes, as it usually is, and kind to Troy especially.

:oh::io:

It could be worse....at least we aren't scUM.

One of the finest regular seasons in Buckeye history. For bcs final, all praise to the Gators. Better gameplan, coaching and playing. Quite impressive. The Bucks will be back, as will Coach Tressel, after a good night's sleep, and, some thoughtful analysis of tonight's whupp'n.

My thanks to the Buckeye TEAM for the fabulous regular season wins!:)

Well, it was a fun ride, and the one great thing about being a Buckeyes fan is that you know that your team is going to be there every year. So here's to next season, and now I can put all my support behind our very talented basketball team and hopefully that can take us on nearly the ride that we got from the Football team this year. It's 12:32 and scUM still sucks. :oh:

i have tried so hard to handle this unsettled emotion that i have right now. but, at the end, like most posters on this board, i am in complete agreement that the best team did win tonight. congrat to the gators. we unfortunately became the likes of miami ('02), oklahoma ('03 & '04). they beat us fair and square.
i'm kinda glad that it's over. now i can go back and focus on hitting the books. (ha, hitting.....something our defense couldn't do tonight...)
nonetheless, i am still proud of our buckeyes for this season. thank you, troy, quinn, david p, datish...etc! can't wait for the next season! :)
