Game Thread BCS Championship Game, tOSU vs. Florida - Jan 8th

because WE ARE an extension of the Buckeye football team and family!!

No we are not - we are just people who have nothing better to do than root for a team that we could never have actually played for. Games are all about the players, not the fans - whatever we feel, they feel it 1000 times more right now. Let's not feel too sorry for our poor selves....

I agree..it seemed like we were shocked when Florida didnt lay down after Ginn's TD

Bingo. I often look for psychological turning points in the game, and I think this was a big one. After Ginn's kickoff return for TD to start the game, if we could've held UF to no points on their drive, I think we could've won the game b/c they would have been demoralized. However, when they drove down the field and scored (we admittedly helped them a little by giving them the ball on our side of the field), I think that was huge, as they took a punch but immediately came back fighting.

Maybe embarrassment isn't the right word.

I feel bad for the seniors?

I don't know how to describe it. I know I'm only a fan, but for the players and for the coaches and everyone actually associated with the program, I don't know what the word is for the feeling....

Empathy ?

absolutely, maybe it was that 51 day layoff, didn't someone say something about a 51 day layoff during the game. This just did not look like the same team that we have been watching all season. Florida played well and showed they are the better team tonight, but I can not explain what we just saw. Florida is not this good.

yeah, i'm looking forward to work on wednesday for the call that i'm going to get from FL :shake:

Agreed. Fans don't lift weights all offseason, they don't run in July, and they don't go through 2 a days in August.

a lot of things went wrong today and a lot of things added up....little and big things that may have lost us the game but florida did win by a large amount and you cant take anything away from them. i dont think it was so much speed just flat outplayed and the list could endlessly go on but props to florida cause they deserve it and it was a great season for the buckeyes and more will be sure to follow and the future is still bright for upcoming years.

I disagree....I played baseball at Princeton and was going to play at tOSU....I know its not the magnitude of tOSU football but you play the game for yourself and your fans and your school....The Ohio State family is the school, athletes and fans....

Congrats to Florida on a well-played game.

Despite Florida's excellent play, I couldn't shake the feeling throughout the game that we were only an attitude click away from turning it around. Can't ever think we're not going to come out on top, and the great way the team played all year was reason enough to shake off any doubts when the challenges started tonight.

Going undefeated in the regular season is a great accomplishment... and I'd be proud of the Bucks whatever their record.

LordJeffBuck did a great job moderating this thread... be sure to greenie him up good before you leave tonight.

I must admit, it's my fault!!! I jinxed the team when i had my HDTV replaced with a new much lighter one! That tv i bought after we lost to SC back in 2002. I knew i shouldve told HH GREGG to replace AFTER tonight's game!

We love you Buckeyes no matter what!!!!

Congrats to Florida... (boy that was kinda tough to have to type) however, they far outplayed us tonight... In my opinion the team that played the best won.

To all the seniors who will never put on their OSU jerseys again, thanks for the memories and good luck in life!!! :)

I swear to god I said the same thing. I just thought it was me being paranoid. Maybe, it's just us being paranoid, but I thought the exact same thing.

I feel bad for the players and coaches. As a fan I had no direct outcome on the game, that's obvious. But all passionate fans feel some sort of emotional connection to "their team" and it hurts when they lose, and it feels great when they win.

Remember to be gracious in victory and in defeat.

Wow. I have no idea what to say. While I don't think our players did a good job of executing, I think our coaching staff needs to take a long look in the mirror b/c it seems like they've taken things for granted lately, both in preparing for Florida and in the recruiting department.

In one sense, you hesitate to say something like this because a) this coaching staff has been great all year and throughout the Tressel era, and b) it's difficult to isolate the effects of coaching in any specific instance. On any given play, we can tell when a football player drops a ball, misses a tackle, blows an assignment, etc. -- it's pretty tough to say it's obviously the coach's fault when we have a bad offensive series or miss out on a top notch recruit.

However, it seems like something's wrong here. This recruiting season, by Ohio State standards, has been pretty disappointing -- not disastrous, but certainly nothing to brag about. If we don't land Heyward, we won't have a single DT in this class, which was our #1 position of need. That's inexcusable for a program with OSU's resources, especially considering we were 12-0 and national championship-bound for the climax of the recruiting season. What happens now that we got embarrassed on national TV?

And this game was obviously terrible. We got so outplayed it's hard to put any one thing down. Losing Ginn hurt us on offense, certainly -- he's been our only real field-stretcher this year, allowing Gonzalez, Robiskie and Hartline to work more underneath. But we never established the run and when we tried to pass Florida was all over Troy rushing just 4. We never came out of the zone on D that couldn't stop the underneath game (though the D played much better in the second half).

I hope this isn't the beginning of a downtrend in OSU football. This is just one game, and there's no shame in reaching the pinnacle of college football and coming up just short. Maybe this defeat gives our coaches and players motivation for next year. Maybe the disappointment of the loss and not playing makes Ginn come back. But right now, with what's been happening in recruiting and then this Hall of Shame performance, I just have a terrible taste in my mouth. And pretty much nothing will be able to wash it away until next September. That's a long time to sit on a defeat like this. The bottom line is that JT and the rest of the staff have the coaching challenge of their life ahead of them this offseason. The players and coaches MUST move past this much quicker than I'm guessing most regular posters on this board will, or the hangover could last for years.
