I HATE not naming a starting QB. If we go into the season without a starter, we're in trouble. The old saying is if you have 2 quarterbacks, you have no quarterbacks. Don't bring in a stud QB every year if you're afraid to upset one. That's the way this goes. There can only be one starting QB.

Reading Day’s presser notes, I REALLY hope he isn’t entertaining a platoon system at QB.

Now don't get me wrong, 2004 was great to me. At 15 & 1/2 I got my motorcycle endorsement and my first bike, being a teenager full of excitement and energy was great. Some of the greatest video games of all time were released.

But apart from The Game and watching Nuge drill a 50+ yard game winner, I don't recall the 2004 football season being a fun one between Zwick and Troy being pulled in and out like a brick oven pizza.

Eh 2004 was a mess all around, the running game stunk too a good majority of the season (finished 70th in YPG). Pittman had 1 breakout game against Indiana where he had like 140 yards but other than that there wasn't really any memorable RB moments. It was at the point where Brandon Joe was the "lead" RB the last 2 games of the year.

I'm not too worried about a repeat of that if we play 2 QBs the first couple of games. I think we are going to see a lot of the running game (worlds better than 2004) early on regardless, even if they did name a starter.

My take is that McCord is the solid and steady guy. A good manager of the game. But Brown has a higher ceiling and brings a spark to the Offense. Problem is he occasionally turns the ball over and makes unwise decisions. Day is hoping that Brown will limit his mistakes so he can name him the starter. That's the reason Day has been dragging his feet.

I don’t think that it’s not be willing to upset someone or wanting to run a platoon system. It’s having two new guys and not enough data points to make a decision. Let’s see some live action play and pull that into the decision calculus. Under the circumstances, as I understand them (relatively close competition, etc), I think it’d be wrong not to see how they each perform in-game. You can be solid in 7 on 7 and scrimmages and still not have IT on game day. Maybe you do, maybe you don’t. There’s one really good way to find out.

Yeah I don’t get this by Day… so it’s really close at a minimum and I don’t think anyone is surprised by that.

However only one can start and the “lean on experience” when it’s tied IMO is a mistake. Kyle should’ve seized this job six months ago and the fact it’s dead even (some reporting Devin is ahead and has been for some time) after Kyles had hundreds of more reps and actual game experience tells me Devin is the option.

Devin is more mobile, he’s a more vocal leader and he’s apparently not far off of a thrower either. You add that to having an extra year and I’m not sure what we’re waiting for.

I get it that Day and staff are nervous about Kyle checking out (maybe even walking away) but as it’s pointed out there’s really no where for him to go if Devin is the guy.

My guess is the statistics say slightly Kyle but the eye check says Devin because that’s the only thing that makes sense. At any rate the coaches need to pick one for the first game and then we can play both vs YSU.

QB situation will work itself out. Give me Tre healthy and out of his sophmore slump and Miyan running downhill through arm tackles. 3 yards and a cloud, with Marv And Emeka over the top and across the middle. Get the OL to gel and pushing forward. Just choose the guy who gets the ball to those dudes more often than he does the other team and it will be fine more often than not.

If TreVeyon can repeat his Freshman production we will be well on our way to a Natty.

Is it the OL that’s influencing the QB battle. I think if this year line was identical to last years Mc Cord would have been named starter. But if there is a question about Protection we may need Brown to extend plays with his legs.

Zach Smith brought this up regarding the coaches vote. If I’m Tony Alford or Justin Frye, I’m likely wanting Kyle McCord. He will likely “stay on schedule”, more predictable for play calling, won’t worry about taking carry’s from the RB playing or forcing lineman to come out of assignment blocks and readjust. I agree with you, the line will have a big influence on the starter.
