He also went from saying that Tate would never play while at OSU, to saying hes going to start this year. I used to like Smith early on in his podcast when he told recruiting stories. But now he’s just a really bad hot take journalist, who interjects his failed marriage in between takes.

But what I’ve also heard(not from Smith ) is that Philbin has been helping Frye with the OL. That’s actually coming from Frye. That should make us feel a little better without getting to see them first hand
I actually think he’s refreshingly honest. I understand his past but he knows a great deal about football and you can tell. I don’t think I’ve ever heard him state that Tate would never play here?

He’s a little loud and vulgar but IMO he’s one of the best listens out there. His Georgia game breakdown was recommended yesterday so I gave it a listen and it was insane how spot on he was in how we could attack Georgia and what Ohio State needed to do.

Anyways back on topic and what I wanted to bring up…

Listening to that what Zach Smiths heard about Brown certainly has helped but I have this growing concern that none of our QBs will pan out. Not sure why either but I have this nagging feeling that the OL will actually be pretty good but that our QB spot will have a substantial fall off. No doubt I think our QB will make some plays and I don’t think they’ll play poorly but I just have this feeling we’ll see a drop in the production there. Anyone else concerned we are over looking the fact we lost CJ?

That’s solely a Zach Smith report. That’s not being reported anywhere else.

Not speaking to the validity of it. Just saying that’s where it originated.

One other thing… if there’s one OSU personality I want saying this it’s Zach Smith. No doubt he still has connections to people in the Woody. Maybe it’s total bull shit but I think there’s some legs to this rumor.

Especially considering that it’s not been declared for Kyle at this point.

Yea….. The longer it goes the more it makes me think it’s going to be Brown

I don’t see what Zach Smith gains from fabricating the story. He’s only said that what he’s been told by friends in the Woody is that Brown is the guy. He never said that it’s concrete, just that’s the standing he was told. Somehow he’s caught crap from all the beat writers over it on YouTube and X.

We all know Urbs has loyalty issues to a detriment. Anyone else concerned that Day is/might/would struggle to tell McChord?

Exactly and yeah Zach Smith is basically unanimously hated by the media it seems lol… for good reason.

Zach can literally say whatever he wants and they can’t. Zach has gone after all of them pretty ruthlessly and they can’t do that because they have to watch what they say etc.

Any rate I sure hope that if Brown is the clear winner that he’s given the job. Only big question is Day really needs to be sure that McCord stays through the year.

I think with how things are now you kind of have to "let it play out" longer, even if you maybe know the younger guy is the starter. To keep the other guy happy enough to stick the season out and not up and transfer pre-season or during the season.

I don't think McCord would be going anywhere. The portal is closed until after the end of the regular season, and if memory serves me, didn't he already burn his redshirt?

Reading Day’s presser notes, I REALLY hope he isn’t entertaining a platoon system at QB.

  • Day pointed to the precedence of multiple quarterbacks having success in a season for a team, with TCU quarterback Max Duggan being a Heisman Trophy finalist after starting the year as a backup in 2022 and the Buckeyes winning a national championship with a third-string signal caller in 2014.
  • There’s still a chance Ohio State’s quarterback race could be settled this week, Day noted, but once the team is in game week preparation next week it’ll be time to come up with a concrete plan — whether it’s with one quarterback or two.

If they're relatively close, I don't have any problem with them both getting reps the first couple of games. Day needs to see how they look in-game, but by the third we'll need to know who's 1 with ND up next.

Yep, if you must let them share snaps against Indiana and Youngstown State. But you really need to have "the guy" by the WKU game. Don't want to be going into ND still flip flopping.

Clicks and attention. He does it a lot. And as you said, he worded it in a way where he can say that’s just what he heard if McCord is the starter.
