Yeah, this. Anybody hoping for the nuclear option post haste is going to be disappointed. Now, the real question becomes whether of not scUM, if confronted with smoking gun evidence, decides to be proactive and self impose suspensions and other penalties (postseason ban), that's another discussion. If they are told that they are looking at serious, far-reaching penalties, Their AD has already shown he is not opposed to acting. Does that include suspending their coaching staff, etc? Time will tell, but they aren't receiving any kind of "death penalty" without due process.

I think long-term, they're fucked. But the most I see happening this ongoing season is maybe some suspensions. I do think there will be something, just unsure of what.
if they aren't going to nuke it from orbit.... then they at least gotta drop a MOAB on it ... send a message

Here's my educated guess: The sign stealing scheme was clearly designed to win games, but someone affiliated with the program (coach, staffer, player) had to have noticed that Michigan was not only winning nearly every game but also covering the spread at an unprecedented rate (at least with respect to Big Ten games, i.e. games that were "scouted"). Said person(s) saw a money making opportunity and started betting on Michigan to cover – essentially reverse point shaving. Cheating to win games is against the rules of the sport. Cheating to win money is against the rules of law. I'm guessing that someone in Ann Arbor is looking at some jail time.
Or, a growing number of people started betting inordinate sums for them to cover.

Depends on if they had inside info on why tsun was suddenly covering. If they were outsiders who just noticed a trend, assumed tsun had some kind of edge and bet on their hunch, it just makes them good gamblers but not criminals. Now if coaches or players (or anyone else with knowledge of the scouting operation) bet, that's jail time.

I could see professional gamblers noticing the trend and betting it big, which Vegas would catch onto eventually and start digging.

In the long run, a multi-year post season ban will be the most crippling to the program. Five would be great, but I'll settle for three. That will destroy recruiting when there will be about 20 teams every year that have a reasonable shot at the playoffs, and tsun has to sit home.

“Of course and for the pure personal satisfaction of it, I want Harbaugh to be shitcanned, show-caused and publicly humiliated.”
So Nuremberg Michigan? That would be a nice touch.
