2020 Team Discussion Thread

If things come together for this team, it won’t be because they find equal replacements for last year’s stars; it’ll be because Fields will have stayed healthy and they followed the 2019 LSU path to the championship.
You mean make the QB's job easier by putting all the talent in the world around him?

I really think there's two players we will miss most.. Fuller and Young.
We can agree to disagree. I just see the loss of Young being negated by 1. Teams not having a lot OL practice and cohesiveness 2. Harrison and Co. will have gone against the best OL in the B1G on a weekly basis.
If we run a single high, I like Proctor back there a lot for his playmaking. But both losses will be felt early on

The thing with Young is he really did wreck teams game plans. Teams were so focused on how to game plan around him that it consumed them. I like our defensive ends but we don't have anyone like Young that demanded the attention like he did. I think Hamilton is a bigger loss than we think too. He was so stout and was a really good rusher for being so big.

As for Fuller.. I do really like Proctor but Fuller was just so good in not over playing things. He always seemed to do well not over pursuing.

It will be interesting to see what the defense does and you have to think we rush Baron a lot on third down to get pressure.

RB is at least 50% OL.

We're going to have some great RBs this year.

Better with Dobbins, but with our OL and our passing game I have no worries about the run game.

I watched Lydell Ross and Maurice Hall run behind the same OL as Maurice Clarett with much less than 50% of the same result . Talent is talent.

I think they'll be good but Dobbins was far beyond good.

As I was writing my response Ross was running through my head. But I am also old enough to remember when jim Brown retired and Kelly stepped in and put up similar numbers.

I would opine that the biggest loss is JK Dobbins until I see otherwise. You don't just replace guys like that.

The new stable of RB's might very well be good but there is a big gap between 'good' and what JK Dobbins brought to the table. Hoping the gap isn't made up with Fields running more.
No way.

If you can take one guy from last season that’s no longer here it’s Chase Young and it’s not even close.

No question Young is a generational player. But if the argument is who is the one player I would like most to have back I might lean towards Okudah.

Our DL will put pressure on the QB and will absolutely not be a weakness. But if I look for a possible weakness this season it is clearly our secondary with lack of experience a major factor. That is why Wade's decision was so critical.

The counter argument is that you can always avoid a particular DB, but you can never avoid the influence of a Chase Young. But I am betting that Harrison makes up for more of that difference than some may think.

I would have gone with Dobbins myself if we had not picked up Sermon. Of course I haven't seen him yet, but I have heard nothing to make me doubt what he will contribute.

Yeah I was gonna say JO if not Chase. Dude was legit and the secondary is just so important.

With Wade back the D will be solid IMO and I agree that I think Harrison and Smith for that matter will be much better than people might be expecting.

The positive about the secondary is that they will resolve the issue of experience before we get to any playoff. And the talent is there.

I just don't see any serious threat in the B1G (barring a let down) other than potentially PSU. And they will be playing without Parsons and their "White Out".

Just keep that secondary in one serious bubble.
