2020 Team Discussion Thread

I believe with the new testing teams will have better control of Covid outbreaks.

Rapid tests have been available for months. I'm not an expert on the differences between the rapid tests that have been approved (some of them as long ago as the first week of July); but the experts I've heard express an opinion on the subject have said that the differences are not significant. As always, I'm open to new information if anyone has some.

Until and unless I hear new information... it seems to me that the B1G is being disingenuous with their insinuation that rapid testing is new. What appears to be new is the plan and the presentation by Dr. Borchers that relies heavily on rapid testing.

:roll1: This is the sort of shit that causes you to vacate/forfeit games, championships, trophies, etc., and gets you banned from post-season play. If you're good enough, you don't have to resort to cheating.
Nope. The NCAA is impotent to stop the cheating now. And it's not getting better at enforcement. You take advantage and you win it all. We all watched SEC officials rig a game to prevent us from playing for a National Championship and Ill never forgive those bastards. We were robbed on national TV in front of millions.

The competition committee was presented 6 or 7 different daily rapid tests, which is actually quite remarkable. The ACC and SEC for example, are now testing 3 times a week.

With the FDA approval of emergency use saliva tests (developed by Yale and NBA) a true rapid test that could be conducted daily, and also being cheap, was a game changer.

And not to make it political, but the White House confirmed they'd help with the resources needed to make it available to Big 10. I can't say football is more important than anyone else, so that's somewhat interesting to me, but I think a large part of getting Big 10 approval was that players are tested daily, and if a test comes back positive they then need to take an FDA approved test, to confirm the initial positive, and the 21 days out is very penal compared to other conferences.

One of the Rapid Tests that was developed months ago cost $5. Unless I hear something that suggests that reporting was flawed, I'm still not seeing the big change. As always, new information could change my mind.

One of the big changes that is less talked about is the fact that the advanced cardio-MRI devices that not every school had access to; all schools now have access to them. I guess that's a big deal, but then, their concern that myocarditis is a big deal was based on a study that was very obviously flawed on its face and they should have known better.

That rapid test needed certified labs (certification through Yale) but many labs across the country have the equipment needed to become certified.

I believe the Oct 24th start date is due to these labs being certified. I'd imagine every Big 10 university is actively working with Yale to get their campus labs certified.

The rapid tests are only as amazing as the closest lab that can read the results. The NBA and Yale for example, were taking the daily saliva samples, and flying them to New Jersey, adding unnecessary time to the test. If they had a lab in Orlando, they could've gotten results in 1-2 hours for individual players. But because it was just the test phase, they opted to have all samples go to a Yale lab.

Once Yale confirmed the nasal swabs were matching the saliva samples, the FDA gave it emergency use authorization. Now that they have that authorization, it's on labs to work with Yale to make sure they're handling the samples properly and getting correct results.

I don't think the tests themselves are new; it's the broader availability of the test kits that's new.

I think with the talent on this roster, its only unproven. But I expect guys to be able to replace the stars from last year. Though those 3 were every bit as important as when we lost Zeke, Big Bear and CantguardMike(though Urban didn't use him) in one year
A combo of Sermon/Teague should replace Dobbins, Harrison should be the next up to replace Young, and he also has a deep DE corps to help out, and Wade should slide into the shutdown CB position(though Okudah will be the hardest to replace, IMO). This is still a damn good roster and strong from top to bottom and I'd still feel confident against any team in the nation. Especially with the big chip on their shoulder from being 1 play from an NC(an NC I truly believe that we would've won)

I really think there's two players we will miss most.. Fuller and Young.
