2015 Offense Discussion

Curious for thoughts on upcoming game. Does anyone think we will see less speed option for Cardale and something more in his wheelhouse? He seemed really solid on the runs between the tackles. One wonders what adjustments might be made.

To me, they'll work on any foundational things that they want to improve upon. I should also state that I see four QBs playing in this game. Collier should definitely get some action presuming the onset destruction has commenced early.

Yes I'd like to see Collier get some action too.

I suppose you are probably right that they end up working on foundational items but I wonder if they don't throw a few wrinkles in just to throw off opposing staffs trying to track tendencies.

  • The big stat here is that Ohio State quarterbacks were sacked zero times this game, compared to the seven that they suffered against the Hokies in 2014.
  • Per Pro Football Focus, Cardale Jones was 5-for-8 with two touchdowns and zero interceptions on passes thrown over 10-yards in the air. Last season, J.T. Barrett was 3-for-15, with zero touchdowns and three interceptions on passes thrown over 10-yards in the air.
  • Jones hit Parris Campbell in the hands on the first drive, but the redshirt freshman dropped a would-be touchdown. Jones stood in the pocket and took a big shot as he released a perfectly thrown ball on a post route.
  • Jones led a masterful first drive. Even though he was pressured on four of six dropbacks, he remained calm and took what the defense gave him. He showed off his arm strength on the touchdown pass to Samuel, as he threw roughly 45-yards accurately off of his back foot.

What about the diamond look that was talked about a while back or at least a two back set with Zeke and Curtis in the backfield?

Actually the 2 back look with Brax at QB could be unreal. Both Zeke and Curtis are good catching the ball and all 3 can tote the rock very well. And if Brax has it you still must respect the pass. Talk about a nightmare for a DC to think about. Plus with Zekes blocking ability that would be a huge plus. I'd love to see that with Thomas, Campbell, and Cory Smith all being capable catching the ball or downfield blocking. Yikes.

That's an interesting point. Of course, 4 starters were missing, and they still looked amazing. However, long term, there were 4 starters who didn't care enough to stay out of trouble. It could possibly be a sign of some focus or chemistry issues.

They were suspended for the nebulous "violation of athletic department policy." They were not arrested, ineligible, investigated by the NCAA, or any other nonsense.

I'm not concerned that 4 guys out of 100 got popped for maybe enjoying the college life too much, at worst. This team is tight and has a lot of genuinely good guys. i just can't see chemistry being an issue. Complacency maybe, but not chemistry.

I think the Zeke-Curtis-Brax backfield will be seen, just not yet. I feel like either Michigan State or
Michigan will have the unfortunate task of trying to stop it.

Part of it has to do with how well Brax holds up as the season goes on. The other part is simply not giving future opponents any film of specific formations/personnel sets.

This is truly a "pick your poison" unit. They are going to put up incredible numbers this year.

Ohio State should be allowed to play with 2 footballs to service all the weapons.

This team could be something special because the are not the 'criminoles' or the 'paranoid no-fun saban group'. In the partisan world that is college football tOSU has a chance to transcend that. This team is fun watch because of the talent and schemes.

I gotta say if they ever went to two balls, I would fear Jim Harbaugh.

That guy has tons of experience handling two balls at once, admittedly with his chin, but experience is experience and that experience we are lacking, fortunately, not that there is anything wrong with that other than it just being gross.
