2014 tOSU Defense Discussion

Love what this defense has been doing lately. They just aren't giving up big plays. Last year giving up the big play cost us a shot at the title. And yesterday we beat Bama in part b/c we made explosive scoring plays and they couldn't. With all the advantages the offense has today you are always going to give up yards and points but if you can just prevent giving up the big play you will win a lot of games. Obviously Oregon will be a huge test in that regard.

Amari Cooper giving high praise to the Buckeye defens . Our double coverage threw him off his game and we had guys that could keep up with him. Back handed compliment by Center, Ryan Kelly(from Cincinnati I believe) in saying he thinks OSU could play in the SEC. Seriously kid, just admit you got owned by Bennett and Washington and allowed several big sacks and STFU!

From that article - Ryan Kelly - "That's a great front four. I'd put them in the SEC for sure." Why would they want to be in the S-E-C? They just proved they were better than the S-E-C's best. And the rest of the S-E-C West got owned by the B1G, Big 12, ACC, and an independent. Why would they want to play in a conference that got owned? But then again, there is no end to the S-E-C arrogance.

In a back handed compliment sort of way. In his mind, comparing them to the S-E-C was the highest compliment he could think of. In fact, the S-E-C West had just spent the last 48 hours getting exposed. If Bennett, Bosa, Washington, and Miller had played like the S-E-C they would have gotten beaten. Fortunately they played better.
A backhanded compliment is a covert insult under the guise of a compliment. Kelly actually meant it as a compliment, although it was misguided in that he doesn't yet realize that his conference isn't what it's all cracked up to be...

I like Amari Cooper. He seems very down to earth, low key guy. Great athlete, quickness is off the charts. An NFL team will benefit from his athleticism. I take nothing negative from Kelly's comments, he was being respectful, regardless of the SEC shit. I'm done being mad about the SEC arrogance, keep kicking the shit out of them every chance we get, and there is no reason to be bothered. Fuck'em.

Thx for sharing the article.

No prob. And I too have the utmost respect for Cooper, especially since he was one of the few Alabama players to take interviews after the game in a tough defeat. He should be a good NFL player as he's only progressed while in college, very hard worker. I guess after hearing since 2006 how slow, average, not clutch, lower tier, not in the same class, etc insults from the SEC it's hard not stay being mad and elated About this win over Alabama. We flat out, outplayed Alabama, And out muscled and looked faster then them, everything they have been saying we couldn't do for close to a decade. And we did it against the best team the SEC has to offer, we didn't beat Auburn, LSU, UGA, Ole Miss or any other team, so the SEC can't say "yeah you won a bowl game but you can't beat our best, Alabama", we beat those fucks. And we beat them good, this win validates so much of our season, since most of the nation didn't think we deserved to be here, and wrote us off after the VA Tech lose, and more wrote us off after the Mich St win! We were suspect for almost beating Minnesota and IU, and now were in the NC. I want us to continue tokick the shit out of SEC teams continually, but this first win is something special

S-E-C people believe their conference to be clearly the best in college football. We may disagree, but until this season their position seemed more than justified.

If you want to get yourselves all het up about comments meant to be complimentary, be my guest. I won't.

I share your thoughts, and am equally as exhausted with all the 'SEC is the best conference on the planet' nonsense. Since 2007, they've been on one hell of a run, there is no arguing that, and the conference has had some very dominant football teams. The depth of their conference was always justified by bowl game performances, and the fact is, the BIG hasn't done their part to prove otherwise as of late.

This bowl season was a long time coming, I believe the SEC, as a whole, is coming back to reality as college football is cyclical. It is a strong conference, but unfortunately for some that play in it, still feel it's better than it is right now.

I have zero concerns w/Urban at the helm. Just enjoying the ride.

Him, Sims, and Kirby all came off as pretty cool guys in the pre-game interviews. I was happily surprised given how much crap their fans were talking at the time.
