2014 Offense Discussion

Or any screen to hold back a defense with their ears pinned...?

Zero adjustments or innovation. Last year, even Bollman could've had a productive offense and this year was the real challenge...to date, Herman has not answered the call imo. Everyone was fretting about Herman taking a head coaching job but being a high-level assistant coach at Ohio State does not ensure a job offer...ask Withers and Fickell. I can't really berate Herman yet but I am just saying he has a lot to prove still.

Here's the thing. We now have 3 weeks to fix things before our next challenge. I think that will happen and the whole team will look and play better.

Can the receivers get better by then? Im not sure they can.

For some strange reason Ohio State has fielded mediocre wideouts since the late 00s. Posey was the last solid, playmaking receiver to play for the Buckeyes.

I don't expect any great turn around. I think it will be dysfunctional for awhile.
Collapse the o-line and make Barrett run. Every team knows what to do now.
Barrett isn't a good enough runner to beat teams with his feet and he isn't experienced enough to complete passes on the run.

Dontre Wilson - 3 touches
Jalin Marshall - 0 touches
Curtis Samuel - 5 touches

J.T. Barrett - 24 carries

Does this stick out to anyone else?

If they were all called runs it would stick out as a horrific game plan

I'm thinking most were him running for his life and it's the OL that's horrific

Not sure to be honest, I was too emotional to be objective during the game and I'll be damned if I ever watch it again.

So if we take out the 7 sacks and make it 17 carries...that's still WAY too much for him to be running the ball. He's not a good runner, plain and simple...Elliott, Samuel, Wilson, and Marshall are the guys I want to see running with the ball in their hands. Not JT

You and I must have watched two different guys named JT Barrett.

Every time we tried a running back into the line, we got stoned. Barrett seems to me to be a pretty good running QB. He's no Braxton, but then no one else is. The issues I saw last night related to the line and to stone-handed receivers much more than shortcomings on the part of Barrett.

Come on now, he's an average runner at best. My post wasn't intended to criticize Barrett, but the playcalling. We aren't getting the ball in the hands of all these guys we recruited.

We need to go 5 wide quick routs, that will make it hard for teams to blitz us without getting burned. When we get an offensive flow going and the deffense stops blitzing and spreads out to cover the pass, then mix the run in there.

No. Being predictable with less help for the OL-not a good idea. Giving JT more reads is not the answer, let alone accelerating things while both he and the OL is on an island-I disagree.
