2014 NFL (Well, Browns, so, sorta "NFL") Draft Thread

I know that many of you do not like Johnny Football but here is an opinion from a Former NFL Scout:
The first thing that grabbed my attention is that Manziel definitely has what scouts call a "plus arm," which means he can make every NFL throw with ease. While he often looks like he is playing schoolyard football, he has consistently shown quickness in getting rid of the ball and can make throws to lead receivers that few other passers can. Both in the pocket and on the move, Manziel's ability to throw accurately 16-plus yards downfield is outstanding, and you can see from watching film that he has spent a lot of time working with his receivers, as their timing on back-shoulder throws is remarkable. Although some of his moves to escape sacks will get him killed in the NFL, he does possess a rare ability to avoid pressure and sacks to buy himself a second chance that can extend plays longer than any quarterback I have ever evaluated.

Having to throw as many passes as he did, it's also impressive that Manziel throws few, if any, passes that defenders can get their hands on. Of the top five quarterbacks I have evaluated so far (Derek Carr, Blake Bortles, Bridgewater, Zach Mettenberger and Manziel), he has the lowest error/interception rate of any of them. Not only does Manziel have the passing skills to succeed in the NFL, but his ability to lead his team and carry them on his back to comebacks consistently has been incredible.

Personally, I would take him with the fourth pick but I would not trade up for him. I do not care about his size because when I saw him play I did not see many passes batted down by the opponents defensive line and he did play against some very good defenses while in college.

I'll admit this. Him running over to his receivers during the bowl game - showing that type of passion was.... Kind of nice.

He's made decent progress as a passer from his Rfrosh year to now. It's his mobility and exaggerated release that scare me. He's a great runner, but at times he feels pressure that doesn't exist and he doesn't slide his feet well. He gallops to where he feels comfortable.

I hate Brady, but that bastard slides so well in the pocket - not even far. Sometimes a step or two at most. I fear Mr. foosball will run around in the pocket and walk himself into sack after sack.

If he's there at #4, I agree, take him. Even if Teddy is still out there (although I doubt BOB passes him up).

Would Jacksonville and whoever St. Louis trades with take Johnny? Possible, although I could see Clowney going to Jax. The wildcard and the early first round will be based off of what St. Louis does....I sure hope they keep the pick and take Matthews or something.

The guy who does mock drafts on the Browns Scout site has the Texans taking Bortles with the first pick because he is a prototype NFL QB and put up big numbers when O'Brien was still at Penn State.
He has St. Louis taking Clowney
Jacksonville taking Carr-I guess the Jacksonville coaching staff coached Carr at the Senior Bowl
and he has the Browns taking Johnny football which I have no problem with.
He has Teddy going #5

I was listening to the locate station yesterday, I cant remember who it was, but he was a relatively well respected NFL evaluater. Said the biggest thing is Manziel didn't seem to know the offense, throw no timing passes, and that basically he wouldn't get away with the stuff he was able to in the NFL...

Stay away from him at all cost..

Also Bridgewater had an average Arm

Quite a bit of that goes against everything that a former scout said in the link about 6-7 posts above this one regarding Manziel. I do not like TB and I agree with the average arm. Give me Blake or Johnny and I will be happy.

If you get a moment - YouTube Bortles a bit. I soured on him after watching some things.

Big arm, great size. Little touch, poor timing often and doesn't lead his receiver well.

At this point I'm cool not drafting a QB in the first 3 rounds. Especially if all the upper tier QB's are dropping like stones.

Yeah maybe I'd think about Bortles in the 3rd round (definitely Boyd and Bridgewater too, not that they'll be available then). I don't think the talent in this QB crop matches the hype and the Mediots are trying to predict the next RGIII/Luck/Wilson trio before it happens.

I have also been saying that all season. He has ADD... no patience in the pocket whatsoever, even with perfect protection he runs out of the pocket. He is a coaching nightmare as he will go off the script every passing play.

On a side note... we still have 4 months of this??? Gawd help us all! I will predict that once the combine, interviews, and personal workouts, Manziel will be the 4th rated QB out of this bunch. I REALLY hope the Browns don't pick him, but if we do... this will be one spectacular failure waiting to happen and will be fun to watch everything burn around here.

I'm calling bs on that. Maybe in that company he compares decently, but he'll be a turnover machine in the NFL. This is all a replay of Brady Quinn imo.. it's all hype.
Mizzou and LSU made him look average.
Turnovers cost him against 'Bama and Auburn ... and nearly cost him against Miss St.

He won't have Mike Evans dominating children to bail him out in Cleveland either.

Uh Josh Gordon? I think he may be a better player than Mike Evans, good try though.

Please don't take this as me being a J-football lover, just come on .
