2014 NFL (Well, Browns, so, sorta "NFL") Draft Thread

Pretty interesting article pertaining to the upcoming draft.

Why is the NFL getting in bed with with football's infamous troll scout? - Deadspin

This afternoon, an article underneath former Pro Football Weekly senior editor Nolan Nawrocki's byline was published on NFL.com. The article is, ostensibly, a listicle detailing the "character issues" of a few top NFL draft prospects, and in its irresistible clickiness, in its eagerness to be argued with, the damn thing might as well have been headlined "10 Scouting Reports That Will Restore Your Faith in Trolling." There's something either deeply strange or profoundly telling about the fact that this article is on the NFL's official website.

In case you had forgotten, Nawrocki has made a name for himself by being a "straight shooter," a talent evaluator who isn't afraid to hand out harsh judgments about the humanity of college kids based on his and his sources' limited interactions with them. He's the guy who pointed out Cam Newton's "fake smile" and "me-first makeup" in one scouting report, who wrote that Geno Smith was not a "student of the game" and "needed to be coddled in college" in another—allegedly tough-minded, grown-up stuff that betrays a priggish obsession with etiquette and manners and outward appearances.

This is what Nawrocki does, though. We addressed the Nawrocki genre a little in the Cam Newton entry in our "Big Book of Black Quarterbacks" not long ago, and what we said there applies here. He's only "channeling the ancient, mostly suppressed chauvinism of pro football's management class, which flowers anew in the runup to every draft." So we shouldn't be surprised when he writes stuff like this, about Western Kentucky defensive back Jonathan Dowling:

Just read an SI mock draft.. and there are ZERO RBs in Round One.. times have sure changed

Have said that for years and why I HATED the Richardson pick before, during and after it happened. While I would love to have Hyde on the Browns... picking him in the 1st round is a mistake based on value to the overall team.

Urban, Jimbo, David Shaw part of NFL Network’s draft coverage

Last year in the weeks leading up to the draft, it was revealed that Notre Dame’s Brian Kelly, LSU’s Les Miles and Stanford’s David Shaw would be featured analysts on the NFL Network’s marathon coverage of the 2013 NFL draft.

With this year’s version of the draft exactly a week away, the college portion of the lineup has been set — with said lineup bringing back one of the breakout stars of last year’s coverage.

Shaw will once again be a part of the NFL Network’s showcase of new NFL talent, and will be joined this time around by Florida State’s Jimbo Fisher and Ohio State’s Urban Meyer. Both Fisher and Meyer have a handful of now-former players expected to be selected in the first two rounds of the draft and will be counted on to provide insight into those players as well as others they may have faced over the last couple of years.

only from the @NFBuck standpoint of the pure comedic value having him and Radio on the same team.. and to make it all better would be drafting Wiston next year.... Radio, Radio jr, and Foosball... thats a hell of QB lineup

The local Cleveland media all want Manziel it seems. The fans that call are 50/50. Some of the radio hosts are drunk with their love of him... I almost want to see the Browns draft him and see how spectacularly he busts so I can see these radio hosts eat crow... But I am too sick of the losing to wish that to actually happen.

Mary Kay and Chuck Booms are like masturbatory for JF. I would love to see Booms on a camera so that if they don't draft him his head will explode like the Bartman ball. As for MKC, well...she is still hoping for Justin Blackmon.

Goldhammer is even worse on WKNR. Just hilarious about how these guys all want Manziel, and the only reason is selfish... they see shows/articles writing themselves with him in Cleveland. I would absolutely love to see Manziel drop like a rock in the 1st round to see them spin why the Browns didn't pick him when he goes undrafted in the 1st round.
