2014 NFL (Well, Browns, so, sorta "NFL") Draft Thread

The only thing you can say for sure about Manziel if the Browns take him is it won't be boring. People seem to be very polarized about him.

I think he'll be a little like Michael Vick, minus the dog killing - flashes of play making ability mixed with turnovers and games missed due to injury.

Minus the whole rocket arm, sub 4.3 and extensive work under center - yeah, just like Vick.

Glazer: Mettenberger, Jernigan failed drug tests at Combine
Among the other notable players who were listed to NFL teams as having failed Combine drug tests in February were LSU defensive tackle Anthony Johnson, University of Miami tackle Seantrel Henderson, and Florida State linebackers Telvin Smith and Christian Jones.

If you ain't cheatin' you ain't tryin'...
I'm thinking Seantrel Hendersonk might have a legitimate mental handicap.

Yeah, and he's white, too! How did you miss that one?

I've seen some of your stellar talent evaluations. So excuse me if I chuckle, again.

I personally didn't see the difference in skin color. One has huge ears while the other doesn't.

Seriously, Manziel could hear the defensive play call in the press box.

That said, I'm clearly poking good fun and you went all defensive - somebody give you some grief today, big guy? Tell me what the bad man did.

Well nobody pissed in my Cheerios and I think Johnny will be a damn good QB and exciting to watch. And if not? He is a bust with the same likelihood of being a bust as any of the the other Top 3 QBs in the draft. With that same likelihood in mind, why not put butts in the seats and entertain? If I honestly thought there was a noticeable drop-off in talent or danger of a bust, I would say pick another guy. But if everything is equal (and I really think it is), I don't see why you go with someone else. Is Bortles an electrifying, can't miss guy? Bridgewater? Carr? I have yet to see someone give a legitimate list of reasons as to why he is more likely to fail in the NFL than the other QBs other than "I just feel..." or "His game won't translate to the NFL because (blank assertion with no merit)" or "He was so good in college that he won't be in the NFL"...until I actually see an objective scouting report that convinces me he does not amount to a good pro (and not that he is shorter than most NFL QBs), I think it is a matter of everyone who does not like the kid wanting to see him fail.

I have said this before in another thread, but I think Manziel will be a poor man's Jay Cutler. He'll have some really good 4 TD games in a dome when it doesn't matter followed up by an awful 1 TD 4 INT game when you're trying to make the playoffs.

He's too impulsive and stupid not to take big risks and constantly get burned in the NFL no matter how physically talented he might be. Some of his most dynamic college shenanigans in the pocket and "fuck it I'm going deep, good thing my receivers are the most talented people on the field" heroics won't work in the NFL... and it's not like they worked that well against quality college teams a majority of the time in the first place.

You've already seen multiple posts on legitimate concerns why Manziel won't pan out. Conversely, what makes him so "electrifying"..? His ability to run around like an idiot? Because it sure isn't his passing ability. Just about every defense worth it's salt have bottled him up quite well. I submit he might be the luckiest player I've ever witnessed. Fumbling the ball back to yourself while Alabama defenders essentially piss down their legs. How about him blindly jumping into a pile of bodies during the bowl game, realizing its a miracle, then leaping out of said pile.

Here's some good reasons. First off, his instincts are poor. Highlighted by the last reference I gave. He doesn't slide well in the pocket. Hell, he doesn't slide at all. He'll run until he feels he's escaped pressure then make an improvised throw leading to disgusting footwork. He's small as shit. Sorry, it's a proper concern. Breesy and Wilson are exceptions and out of those two only one is a consistent QB/pro bowl player. The deck is stacked against little guys. Lord knows if you're the Browns you want to play on the better half of the odds.
He's still a developing presence in the pocket. Luck, Matty Ice, Dalton, even RG3 were all much more adept at being pocket passers. By competitive reference, you think he has equal bust potential as Bridgewater. Who has had far more experience in an offense akin to the NFL and a much better passing skill set from within the pocket. That doesn't make sense, as the skills that make Manziel so electrifying are the ones that matter the absolute least in the NFL. It's a recipe for disaster. Hey Jake, is that an ok assessment?

Edit: Mr. Foosball also has a tendency to stare at the defensive line ala Colt McCoy. I had almost forgot about that.

The draft can't come soon enough. There is way too many days between the end of the last NFL game and the NFL draft. I'm fricking tired of seeing the network's so called experts report who a team should draft and their mock drafts. The NFL should move next years draft back into April.

I think I saw on Bob Mcginn's twitter that they are talking about moving it further into May

Three NFL people that I really trust say the league is giving serious consideration to scheduling the draft a week or two later in 2015.

Why in the world do that?!! It's bad enough that fans have to wait 2-3 months after the season for the draft. It's not putting any team at an advantage or disadvantage one way or another. Doesn't make since at all.

I'm more interested in the over/under on how many times that dumb ass song "I'm the man" song is played.

This is the first year in the history of the NFL draft where players who were invited to the Green Room are allowed to select their "Walk Up Music" after they are selected and walking to shake hands with the Commish.

Which leads me to think - what are my Top Three Choices for Walk Up Music??
Awkward as possible is what I'm going for here...

3. WAR - Why can't we be friends

2. Gold Dust Music - WWE

1. The Peanuts Theme
