2013 tOSU Defense Discussion

The coverage busts and lack of LB development are very concerning in my eyes. I'll wait for the rest of the season to play out before I start bitching about changes.

The secondary is almost historically bad when it comes to coverage busts. But I do think we lack in talented upperclassmen at the CB spot.

I don't care what the stats show, we are not a top 10 defense. I would probably place us just outside the top 20 from what I have seen from other teams I have watched. I am so sick and tired of teams and QBs having their most productive games against us.

I know this sounds crazy, like reaaaaally crazy.....but how about throwing Devin Smith back there at safety? The dude can definitely run and crack skulls on special teams, kinda like Brian Hartline. I was convinced that if Hartline wasn't such a damn good WR he would've been one of the best safeties in OSU history. How about giving Smith a shot? Gamble did it.

Top 20, maybe against the run. We haven't played any top tier teams and we get carved up against the pass every week. Iowa had no legitimate WR threat, yet we still give up way too many yards in the passing game. When was the last time we gave up 100 yards receiving to a TE?

Good to know that our secondary can't chase down a 245 Lbs. TE in the open field. DBs have some work to do.
Yeah wtf was that weak sauce? I was thinking oh we will get him no worries and when he started distancing himself I just had to laugh.

Literally how many times has roby saved a touchdown on plays like that? Maybe that's it? Only guy with elite speed is roby the other three maybe aren't as good as we thought.

I know I touched on this a couple of posts back, but the last two undefeated OSU teams made crucial adjustments on personnel midseason (Gamble and Boren) to turn things around. If we go with our current personnel, especially in the back seven unfortunately I don't see this getting any better. If Bell isn't ready, lets get Devin Smith a shot. Him playing D may cost us 7 points on offense but save us 14 points on D. That's all it matters.
