2013 Preseason and regular polls

I would not worry too much about FSU. Boston College ran for 200 yards on them, their RB had over 150 yards. Miami was not a legitimate top 10 team, and Clemson is normally good for at least 1 stinker every year, even at home - remember how awesome Clemson was until West Virginia dropped 70 on them in the 2012 Orange Bowl? IMO, the ACC is overrated.

Yeah, tOSU was #1 forever. Lost to Illinois with only The Game to move up in the rankings after dropping from 1st to 7th despite Illinois being the B1G's Rose Bowl team, and somehow moved back up to 2nd despite not having a CCG. There's so much football to be played. Especially when considering most teams will be playing the toughest stretch of their schedules and rivals. Expecting all undefeated teams to remain so is far more naive than a one loss team ending up playing for the title THIS YEAR.

I remember hearing Spielman comment on the three unbeatens ahead of us on 97.1 the fan a week or two ago. He was asked which one Ohio State matches up best against. He's called a couple of games for FSU already this year, so he was most familiar with them. Ranked them as such: Alabama as the hardest match-up, Oregon in the middle, and FSU as the easiest match-up. He thought we would be able to run on FSU and although we would have a tough time throwing on them because their DB's are so good, we would have a distinct height advantage on them. Also said he thought our D would match up well on their O, especially our run D against their running backs. He had some comments on Winston as well, but I can't remember them off the top of my head without hearing it again.

It was refreshing to hear someone that actually knows what the hell they are talking about speak thoughtfully about the match-ups. Certainly gave me some confidence that if FSU were to win out (which the chances are pretty darn good with their remaining schedule) and Alabama were to lose, we could have a great chance at a win. Of course, that was before Baylor entered the picture as a potential elite team this year and Stanford made the big statement, but I digress.

Bama will lose to UGA with a healthy Todd Gurley. Regardless of whether they beat LSU. That's my prediction.

The problem with that is that Georgia and Alabama won't play unless Mizzou loses two of its remaining three against UK, Ole Miss, and TAMU, and UGA wins out against Auburn and UK. Possible, but unlikely.

EDIT: sflbuck with the South Florida speed to beat me to the punch!

I just watched the entire Oregon vs Stanford game. It was ideal for OSU. Oregon looked pathetic against a good line, Stanford looked like the would not have won if there were a few minutes more in the game.

When a team scores all its points in the last 5 minutes of the game that indicates two things:

1.) Conditioning is an issue - OSU doesn't have that issue
2.) They decided to play prevent defense - I somehow don't think Meyer would allow that anymore.

Mizzou is my second favorite school but it's a big drop down from my Buckeye love. If you haven't seen them play much don't underestimate them. The offense isn't as solid as aTm but the D is much, much better. I wouldn't pick them to beat Bama but I don't think it would be the blow out that many would expect. Mizzou is an OT away from being undefeated in the SEC. They had the Cocks dominated for almost that whole game. Mizzou has several big, physical receivers that are tough to defend. I believe they are top 5 in several D categories...sacks, INTs, etc and last I checked they had some crazy long streek for consecutive games forcing a turnover....30+ if I recall. Don't sleep on them.

I don't think conditioning was an issue for Stanford. Hell, their defense was only on the field for around 20 mins total. I also don't think they were playing prevent. Oregon scored 13 points in the last 5 mins because 1. They recovered an onside kick. and 2. I have noticed that the Oregon offense has usually taken a couple of drives before it really starts clicking. By keeping the ball away from them so well in the first half, Oregon never really got the offense on the same page until the fourth quarter.
