2013 Preseason and regular polls

And steve19: unless there are losses by Alabama and fsu, and probably Baylor, Osu most likely ain't in the NC. We're rose bowl bound. And have been all year. We can average 100pts the rest of the season, and still get held out, IMO. Our perception from the last 2 lost NCs is still fresh in voters minds, and the weakness of the big 10 severely works against us. All we can do is keep winning and hope other teams lose

All do respect but thats some Bull[Mark May].. we might very well get held out even if we win out, but it has NOTHING to do with losing two NCs and VERY little to do with the quality of teams in the BIG. The BIG is being punished by big media for going it on their own. We hit them in their wallets so they are doing everything they can to bring us down. It wouldnt matter if we had 4 of the top 10 teams in the country in our conference, ESPN, CBS, ABC ect make money off our competition looking good. Miami wasnt punished when the Big East was crap and they ran through that conference, USC wasnt punished when the PAC was down and they ran through that conference, FSU wasnt punished when the ACC couldnt beat them for like 3 years straight. Its so pervasive our own fans believe it now. ridiculous. If you arent boycotting Espin yet you are part of the problem.[/quote]

I agree with your points on past teams, but they have nothing to do with the perception osu unfortunately. The media has a vote, and on every show, if not espn, then fox, cbs, cnn, we can name networks all day and all of them laugh at the big 10. And when mention of osu in the NC, first is our schedule then next up is us "always" losing to sec teams. So that is a real perception on every network not just espn. So do you plan on just not watching any sports network? If alabama, fsu and osu win out, we are at a disadvantage is my point. And the 3 of us winning out holds us out, especially since all 3 play pretty weak opponents the rest of the season except possibly in our championship games. Id love to be in the NC as much as the next man, but its working against us right now in yhe polls unless fsu or alabama get a loss

This is exactly how I expect this to play out.

My point is different. Ohio State can win out and still be left on the sidelines if Alabama, Oregon, and FSU have one loss, unless Ohio State wins in convincing blowouts.

If you look at ESPiN today, you will see that they are talking about a "resurgence" among B1G teams other than Ohio State: Wisconsin, Michigan State. They are getting ready for the fact that Ohio State could blow everyone out and Alabama could lose. It gets really hard to hold onto the charade under those circumstances. That said, Ohio State is playing a weak schedule by any measure, and it is a good question to ask what might have happened if they played the schedule that Alabama is playing.

Sagarin now ranks Wisconsin above Ohio State, thanks to the 44 schedule ranking vs Ohio State at 81. In death, TSUN may be doing more to hurt Ohio State NC ambitions than they could do in life. It is very worrying that Ohio State has dropped from 4th to 6th across the composite ranking so far, although a lot of rankings aren't in yet.

My guess is that Stanford and Baylor could jump Ohio State. We really need Michigan State to win next week and then win out.

Take care of our own business..the preoccupation with schools other than U of I, IU and scUM can be a recipe for disaster of epic proportions. I remember an Illinois team beating us at home..when we were looking ahead.

After the Purdue game, do you really think Meyer's going to allow it?

And I'm pretty sure my dreams of defeating Michigan 110-0 won't affect Meyer's preparation for Illinois.

All this talk about about who we play, and who they play ... well, I'll say this. It's hard to go undefeated, period. Teams that play nothing but weak teams take loses, and that's just the facts. I have no doubt in my mind that if we go undefeated that we'd do the same with any other lineup in the country. Anyone who doesn't like OSU just call's just homers, but do you realistcially think that Braxton Miller and Co. wouldn't hold there own playing in the SEC? Come on.

This is GPA worthy.

I know the polls count. I know this is fact. But when polls are used to determine SOS, how can I take that statistic seriously? Oklahoma was ranked tenth. Wisky and Sparty only recently became ranked in the top 20! Of course Wisky plays a tougher schedule. They had to play tOSU.
