2013 Preseason and regular polls

My top five right now would be:

1. Florida State
2. Oregon
3. Alabama
4. Clemson
5. Ohio State

With what FSU did to Maryland yesterday, I think they've proved they're totally legit. Oregon still keep scoring at will no matter where they play. Alabama actually had a relative struggle with Georgia State, who is arguably worse than FAMU. Clemson has a win against a top 10 team and has been more impressive. I almost put Baylor ahead of us...I don't car who you're playing, if you average over 70 points per game for you first four games. The also beat Buffalo way worse than we did and just put up 864 yards on West Virginia...they're averaging 780 yards per game on offense.

AP Poll: Top five stays put, Florida State on the rise after Week 6 of college football

• Have to say I’m a little surprised Stanford doesn’t have any first-place votes. The Cardinal beat a very solid Washington team Saturday night, but I guess it was past some voters’ bedtimes, which is understandable. We at Campus Union haven’t gotten a full night’s sleep since the season started, and these bags under our eyes aren’t going away.

You could swap "Stanford" with "Ohio State" and "Washington" with Northwestern" and make the same case.

Stanford barely beat the Huskies and Ohio State barely beat the Cats, but for some reason the Cardinals are getting a bunch more love.

I think they said it best yesterday on Gameday when they said "Ohio State is in a no-win situation against Northwestern." They were. If they creamed the Cats, the pollsters would see the Cats are a crappy, over rated team. If the Bucks struggled, it makes the Bucks look over rated.

Why can't this same logic be applied to the SEC or Stanford?

Truly is bizarre.

Almost makes me want the Cats to win out (meaning they beat Wisconsin and Michigan). They'd be fringe top 10 and Ohio State would be looking back saying they beat a Top 10 team on the road and night by the end of the year.

Big Ten teams beating other Big Ten teams won't rebuild the conference's reputation. As pointed out above, it's too easy to spin it in a negative manner. The only thing that's going to change things is for the top half of the conference to start winning some marquee ooc games and bowl games consistently and across the board.

Which is nearly impossible. What's completely ridiculous is that teams that beat a B1G school in a bowl will get a bump in the following pre-season rankings. So beating a B1G team only counts if you're not in the B1G.

It all stems from 2006. If tOSU and tsun would have been given the same chance Alabama and LSU were given just a few years later, this discussion wouldn't be happening.

What needs to happen is for tOSU to play the SEC champ in the title game and win.

Ultimately, I think it will take more than that, but that would be THE single biggest individual step towards a Big Ten restoration. And for those who would like to see Ohio State get a shot at doing that, for the love of all that is holy (and logical) STOP rooting for Michigan to lose games between now and The Game! We need Michigan to go into that game undefeated and as over-fucking-rated as possible!

i was actually hoping tOSU would have gotten a shot at UWCw, and LSU head out to Rose Bowl to play Michigan.

quick trivia:
LSU and Michigan are the two winningest programs to never play each other.
