2013 Preseason and regular polls

meh....that means that Northwestern wins out or scUM fixes itself....either one is possible, but at this point I don't think there's really a clear leader in the other division....

I'd like to see scUM "get fixed".

That's not necessarily true. The B1G CCG winner gets the automatic BCS bid. CBS has that being Ohio State and Ohio State going to the National Championship game. The Rose Bowl would then select an "at large team" to replace them. The bowls are all about the money and very few schools (if any, other than Ohio State) have a fan base that travel better than the Huskers. The Huskers could lose the B1G CCG (and be more attractive than the some other conference's runner up that maybe even had one less loss) and get the Rose Bowl's "at large" bid.
Just looked at Louisville's schedue...can't imagine they lose a game...wonder if style points will start mounting for Teddy B and company in a effort to rise in the polls? Just my random thought for the day.

Put it this way, there's no way Nebraska is going to win out and be ranked high enough to be the 2nd Big Ten team in the BCS. And that's if you believe that Ohio State is going to be in the MNC game, which I currently don't think will be the case.

You dont think a 10-2 Nebraska who just missed the CCG or even an 11-2 who made it but lost could be selected to a bcs game?

Nope. For one, I don't think they'll be 10-2/11-2 by the end of this year. For another, look at the standings. The Pac-12 is going to get 2. The SEC is almost certainly going to get 2. There are 10 BCS slots. Do the math. 2 BCS title contenders, 4 other league champions is 6. Add in the 2nd teams from the Pac-12 (Oregon/Stanford loser is most likely with fUCLA having an outside shot), the 2nd team from the SEC (probably whoever loses the SEC championship game). That's 8. Leaving 2 spots for any combination of a 2nd ACC team, 2nd Big 10 team or non-automagic BCS qualifier and that's going to be either NIU or Fresno State, both of whom are already ranked head of Nebraska and only need to be in the top 16 to get a bid.

I'd say the odds are slim for a 2nd Big Ten team unless it's scUM - who only loses to Ohio State two times or Ohio State, if they were to finish the regular season unbeaten but lost the Big Ten CCG. Nebraska lost to fUCLA, that will stop them from getting into the BCS.

EDIT: Looking at the rankings, it's entirely possible Northwestern is still a possibility if they make it to the Big Ten CCG and loses again to Ohio State and/or beats Ohio State the 2nd time around.

Even with CBS's current BCS projection of Ohio State being #5 (posted above), their BCS "so called expert" is predicting Ohio State vs Alabama in the National Championship game:

http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/bowls/predictions

the projections are for the 1st BCS poll coming out in a couple weeks.
and it's probably fairly accurate.

using only the polls currently available, tOSU would be 5th right now in the BCS.

what happens between now and end of November is anyone's guess.

I thought there was a 2007 version of that where we tracked the teams ahead of the Buckeyes- though I may just be imagining that, especially since the 2007 loss occurred so late. I dunno. Too many drinks ago.

I only one I really remember having it's own thread was the 2010 one....there were a lot of posts from LJB about it in 2007, but these were within already existing threads as all hell was breaking loose (I think)....I could easily be wrong.

2007 was the craziest season I think I ever saw.

nobody wanted to be number 2 for what seemd like6 straight weeks.
then nobody wanted to be #1

and now y'all are stuck with me.
