2013 Preseason and regular polls

Eventually some idiot will defend Clemson by saying they beat Georgia before the injuries. Misery gets the injured and exposed Dawgs...jumps to 14 in the AP. UGA is 15. IMO we are about to see some serious SEC trickery between the Gators, Dawgs, Vandy and Bye over the next few weeks. At least the gap has gotten closer between Clemson and the Bucks.

Stanford falls, SEC record 8 in AP poll

The Southeastern Conference set a record for most schools in The Associated Press college football poll with eight ranked teams

I guess we are ready for an 8 team playoff after all.

What a joke this is... LSU loses to a crappy Georgia team yet still ranked in the top 10, see same to USCe, Aggy gets lit up by Ole Miss but yet they are still the 7th best team in the country... ugh people are stupid

Well, who the hell else are you going to put up there? Louisville? Northwestern? Michigan? TCU? Utah? A two loss Washington?

Be glad Notre Dame remains off the list for a few days as they'll quickly vault back up to the middle if they beat USC.

Say what you will, the LSU - Georgia game was about as good a college game as you are going to see in any given year. Alabama and Texas A&M put on a good show, as did LSU and Florida.

At the same time the Buckeyes, had to score 50 points to beat Cal, were carried down to the final possession to take care of Northwestern and caught a number of breaks to beat Wisconsin while making a Heisman candidate out of Abrecadabra.

With the exception of Ohio State, the Big Ten, with losses to Northern Illinois (twice!!!) and Central Florida, remains suspect. Unless Wisconsin continues to win and the Spartans demonstrate that they DO have an offense, the conference isn't going to look significantly better than the ACC or whatever the hell the Big East remains are called. Those facts will continue to impact the thoughts of the poll voters.

Look i'm not saying that there should be any B1G teams besides us and Wisky .... i'm just saying the S-E-C lovefest is just nuts...to have Missy jump up from 25 to 12 because they beat a bad Gawja team that shoulda lost to Tenncheat... I don't know who you put up there.. i'm just saying the SEC isn't strong enough to have a 1/3 of the polls

LSU - Georgia was a damn good game. I wouldn't begrudge them a spot in the top10 for now.
TAMU and SC, however... TAMU has no defense at all. I guess you can say they "put on a show", and it's good for business... but it's not really a compliment.
I don't get what anyone sees in South Carolina either. They look very pedestrian to me, only had 1 good opponent so far and didn't fair so well. Does running the score up on Arkansas really impress people?
As for teams to replace them... Missouri, Miami, Baylor, Texas Tech are still undefeated. Untested, too .. but it's not like TAMU or SC have any wins worth bragging about either.
Stanford has a loss, but at least they've actually beat somebody - UW.
And Virginia Tech is in the same exact shoes as TAMU (instead of no Defense, they have no Offense) with a loss to 'bama. But they're down around 20.
Nebraska has a loss to current 10/9 UCLA, with no wins to hang their hat on. That puts them in a similar position as South Carolina's loss to Georgia.

I think that jump was mostly to cover the rearends.
It looks like Missouri was still suffering from the "not a real SEC school" stigma when they went into that game undefeated and whipped an over-rated Georgia.
The voters don't want to drop Georgia from the polls, however, so instead they jumped Missouri all the way up to 14/14 to make it look kosher.
It's amazing how easy it is to climb the polls by beating a team like Georgia. Clemson and Missouri have both made amazing leaps off that.
They look like the SEC's answer to Notre Dame right now. Funny how neither of them want to play us.

It pains me to say anything positive about the SEC, but IMO the Pac is down (too many years with USC totally dominating the conference), the Big 10 is way down, the Big East is a memory, the ACC is a basketball conference hosting two football schools, a bling and tanning parlor and Notre Dame, Texas has run off anyone of possible long term consequence except Oklahoma.

If I'm a TV producer (and let's face it, it's in their interest to have #7 playing #12 instead of one un-ranked team vs one ranked) looking for prime-time Saturday match-ups I'm looking at the map and realizing it's a long way to Eugene and Pullman, nobody wants to kick off in Arizona before 8pm PST, no one in the Big Ten can play after dark in November, and I'm running out of choices that don't involve the SEC.

What needs to happen is that Michigan needs to get back to being a perennial top 10 team, while Wiscy, the Corn and the Pedsters need to be consistently in the top 20. Throw in some combination of Northwestern (as long as they can hold onto Fitz), Sparty and some combination of Iowa/Maryland/Rutgers sniffing at the top 25.

With the entire Big Ten a complete dumpster fire, Ohio State can't control its own destiny, and it's a shitty position to be in. The playoff will help but not entirely. If it were in place this year, we could still get left out with five undefeated while one slip up would probably snuff out any chance.
