2013 Preseason and regular polls

It's gonna be hilarious if OSU wins out, gets left out of the MNC, and then wins the Rose Bowl just to watch ESPiN argue amongst themselves about if OSU should be Natl. Champs at 26-0 over a 2 year period.

As if espn would even consider the possibility were the other option a representative of their cash-cow conference or the factory team of their largest advertiser. All they'll say is what an epic game the NC was and how either team would have gone in dry on Ohio State.

The B1G is pretty awful. Wisky is the second best team and should be ranked in the mid teens with only one loss. They are a good club. NW is knocking on the door of the top 25 but they aren't great by any means. As a conference, top to bottom I think we are close to equal to the Big XII but probably a little weaker. No one in the Big XII is at our level but they are better in the mid to lower half IMO so it comes close to being even. They have 4 ranked teams and the B1G has 2. If I had to pick the 4th best conference I would have to say it is the Big XII. Without scarlet glasses on I would rank the PAC 12 pretty even with the SEC this year followed by decent drop down to the ACC in 3rd place, and the Big XII with a little bit of lead on the B1G. I hate to say it but it's hard to argue.

If Alabama and Oregon are undefeated, they'll get in by the same SOS logic we used to use to deflect Kansas State claims a decade ago.
Right now, if Alabama and Oregon both run the table I'd have little to complain about if they got into the NCG. Alabama plays in the conference that is still the overall toughest in the country and is the two-time defending national champ. Oregon plays in arguably the second-toughest conference and has been obliterating everyone so far. Going 25-0 under UFM (after winning the B1G title game) and then not playing for the national title would suck, but it is what it is. That said, if we are that 25-0 and either Alabama or Oregon has a loss, then there's no way we should be left out...

Meh. I'm not a fan of using last year's record to argue this year's ranking. 12-0 or 0-12 - this year's Ohio State team is 6-0. Rank the teams based on this year only.
If Alabama is getting a pass to remain at #1 based mainly on what they've done the past four years, then you bet your ass it's fair to say we should get credit for winning 25 straight if we indeed do so...

Everyone is all over the big ten costing ohio state a national title. It isnt the big ten sucking that is costing us the title. It is ohio state playing. Big ten is weak. Ok, then win by 30. Oregon is playing tougher teams and winning by more. If Oregon was winning by a small margin, and osu was beating the slightly worse big ten teams by 30, then we could have this argument. But as long as Oregon beats very solid teams by more than we beat good teams, then i stand that they are better. It isnt like we are playing wac teams or aa teams. It is like clemson beat georgia, but struggle with OK teams. Oregon passes the eyeball test more than anyone in the country.

And Tennessee, who sucks, but it doesn't matter because they almost beat Georgia and are in the SEC so they must be at least a top 25 team.

On a non-facetious side though, I agree w/ Tampa. Oregon is doing what they're expected to do and blowing teams out, even if they aren't good. It also doesn't look like the Oregon of earlier years where they were just outscoring teams, they're actually stopping other teams from scoring too. Curbstomping Cal 55-16 is a good example.

Solid teams? Like Washington? Who was ranked one spot away from Nw?

Like i said before, other conferences build their case for a high rank for the next preseason by scraping by a B1G team that's usually playing up. tOSU doesn't get the same credit for beating the same team at their place.

Oregon always passes the look test, until they don't.

Anyone that thinks this years Bama is the same team as previous years is not paying attention.

Eh, idgaf anyway. I want tOSU to win all their games. I've seen enough CFB in my life to know most teams will lose at least once, and probably to a team they should've stomped.

Nevermind that Cal had no running game and it was a torrential downpour, whereas Oregon can run.

I just don't think (unbiased) voters will take that into consideration. They're going to put all undefeated teams next to each other and look at the overall competition and margin of victory.

Buckyle's point about Oregon choking at some point will likely make this whole conversation irrelevant.
