2010 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

I really think the outcome of the game will have a big effect on recruits. A lot of these guys will be coming to the Shoe for the first time. This may be the biggest recruiting weekend ever for Ohio State so I think it's silly to say that recruits won't be turned away if we lose big.

I know the outcome of the game will go a long way in Genron's book and I'm sure it's no difference for a lot of the other guys.

I really think you're thinking too much. tOSU isn't recruiting Genron, so we're good there. Also...biggest recruiting weekend ever?

I agree, stating that this is our biggest recruiting weekend is a bit of a stretch. Let's not forget tOSU is supposed to be the team that can't win big games but we had the #1 recruiting class a year ago, and thats with us getting beat pretty bad in a NC! We'll be fine regardless. And win or lose, I doubt Genron jumps ship, just think, I highly doubt that FSU will be playing for the ACC crown!

Genron's said his perception (as an OOS'er) is that Ohio State is a school that dominates the Big 10 but isn't up to par with the SEC or Florida schools. All i'm saying is that game will be a HUGE tool for everyone coming from OOS on a visit.

And yes I can't think of another weekend that will have the same amount of Undecided prospects in attendance. Yes, The Game will always be close, but being later in the year a good amount of those kids have already made their decision.

I agree that kids with legit interest won't drop OSU if they lose. But for some of the kids that are coming up and seeing Ohio State for the first time I think the Atmosphere and Outcome will both combine to make a huge impression on them.

Of course it will be big. You said "biggest ever". That's a bit much.

Genron also said that "And OSU is my number #1 wish list now. Don't know if that will help or not", so there's that.

You're acting like you said it would be the biggest weekend for recruiting this year. You did not. You said "ever".

That's been said countless times and the effects are always negligible. Florida had zero impact. LSU had zero impact. Everybody said how crucial last year's USC game was to recruit's perception...nothing changed. tOSU will remain one of the premier programs in the country, win or lose. Few can beat the faciities. Few can beat the national exposure. Few can beat the quality of people we have on the coaching staff. tOSU sells itself...not the result of one game.

Truthiness.

The outcome of the game is INFINITELY more important to the fans than the recruits... insiders say that, recruits say that... recruits care about the system, where they will fit in, the coaches, their prospective teammates, etc.

A game in which they're not playing between teams for which they don't (yet) play is just not as important as fans insist it must be.

You guys are right , this is class is shaping up with in this last week . A couple more recruits and we are looking good . Here is my wish list for the rest of the class :

1. Lamarcus Joyner - CB 5'8" 166lbs; St. Thomas Aquinas HS, Fort Lauderdale, Florida

2. Jordan Hicks - LB 6'2" 200lbs; Lakota West HS, Cincinnati, Ohio

3. Latwan Anderson - S 5-10/185/4.38 Glenville HS Cleveland , Ohio or Christian Bryant - S 5'10" 173lbs; Glenville HS, Cleveland, Ohio

4. Seantrel Henderson - OL 6'8" 301lbs; Cretin-Durham HS, Saint Paul, Minnesota or Matt James 6'8" 280lbs; St. Xavier HS, Cincinnati, Ohio or even Brandon Linder 6'6" 280lbs; St. Thomas Aquinas HS, Fort Lauderdale, Florida if Matt and Seantrel don't pan out .

5. Tyrone Williams - WR 6'5" 200lbs; Shaw HS, Cleveland, Ohio

6. Laken Tomlinson - DT 6'4" 285lbs; Lane HS, Chicago, Illinois

7. Corey Brown - WR/RB 6'0" 171lbs; Cardinal O'Hara HS, Springfield, Pennsylvania

8. Erick Howard - RB 5-10/210 Hoover HS North Canton, OH

That will give us 18 Schollies and one heck of class . Now before everyone starts ripping me for this post , some of these picks are questionable i admit it but not completely out of the realm of possibility , IMHO .

No Christian Bryant? No Hagan?

I say drop Anderson and Erick Howard for Bryant and Hagan...since they both seem like locks and have offers. Plus don't forget about Hagerup. Corey Brown is seeming more and more like a possibility however.

My (somewhat) realistic wish list for the final 8(?) would be:
1. Seantrel Henderson
2. Lamarcus Joyner
3. Corey Brown
4. Jordan Hicks
5. Laken Tomlinson/Hankins (I actually like Hankins better)
6. Tyrone Williams
7. Christian Bryant
8. Brandon Linder (with Hagercup behind him)

Note: I don't think Christian Green, Matt James, or Chaz Green are legit chances. Henderson isn't ahead because of need, just talent...he is the best OL possibly since Pace imo.

Hankins doesn't have an offer and probably won't get one. I'd say Talbot is the likely DT in this class, if we take one.

I like your list, though. I'd add Hagerup and another DB to make it an even 20. I'm hoping Anderson shows some maturity at Glenville and gets an offer. He obviously wants one...

Seems to be fuzzy on the offer but I just loved his film, though there seems to be alot going on with grades, effort, etc. that doesn't show up on film. If we can fit 20, I would love to have Hagercup and Anderson in this class. If he gets everything in order, I would have him at #5 behind Hicks.

We lose to USC and win the Big Ten we'll hear the same old stories of how weak the Big 10 is and how overrated we are. I don't know if this game will completely define our program but it will go a LONG way of getting our national perception back to where it should be.

Who cares? The season does not live or die on one game.

For me, the order of importance is thus:

1) Beat Michigan.
2) Win the Big 10 title.
3) Everything else is the whipped topping.

I was just saying as far a recruiting perspective a win here will ease A LOT of the concerns that some big OOS recruits have.

And I would disagree. Recruits will start feeling uneasy about coming to tOSU Buckeyes WHEN WE STOP PUTTING PEOPLE IN THE NFL. Or when we stop turning boys into men. Or when careers outside of football (or other athletics) become marginal. It's the entire experience that recruits put into perspective; not just a singular win or loss.
