RECRUITING WATCH
CLASS OF 2010 IS A WORK IN PROGRESS
Saturday, September 5, 2009
By Ken Gordon
At the moment, Ohio State's 2010 recruiting class isn't all that impressive. But it could be.
The Buckeyes have 12 players who have committed. Rivals.com ranks the class No. 18 nationally; Scout.com has it 19th.
It will be a small class. By the time signing day rolls around in February, it will number somewhere between 17 and 20.
And those five or so future commitments, who could include several blue-chippers, will go a long way toward deciding the ranking of this class.

"When you look at Ohio State, you expect to see most of the guys in our top 250, and that's just not the case this year," said Mike Farrell, national analyst for Rivals.com. "It's been kind of a weird year for them. There are a lot of question marks."
Among the players Farrell singles out:
Youngstown defensive end Jamel Turner, who has left Ursuline High School and might be bound for a prep school. He has a troubled family life.
East Cleveland Shaw receiver Tyrone Williams and Fort Wayne, Ind., running back Roderick Smith, both of whom have academic concerns.
Cleveland St. Ignatius linebacker Scott McVey, whose size might be an issue (Farrell says McVey is closer to 5 feet 9 than his listed height of 6-1).
"That being said, those guys are tremendous talents, and it could all come together," Farrell said.
WHARTON, NJ - The U.S. Army All-American Bowl Selection Committee has announced that 30 student-athletes have been named to the watch list for the prestigious 2010 U.S. Army Player of the Year Award, considered high school football's highest honor.
Teddy Bridgewater, Jr., QB/WR, Northwestern (Miami, Fla.)
Last Game: Bridgewater went 12 of 24 for 153 yards and four touchdown passes as Northwestern (2-0) handled Hialeah 42-20.
Season: 20 of 45 passing, 300 passing yards, 5 TD passes, 2 TD runs
Rushel Shell, So., RB, Hopewell (Aliquippa, Pa.)
Last Game: Shell turned in 168 yards and two touchdowns on the ground as Hopewell (3-0) blasted Ambridge 48-6. The super sophomore is averaging nearly 12 yards per carry.
Season: 51 carries, 596 rushing yards, 10 rushing TDs

"As of right now, I don't have any other visits set up. We play on Saturday a lot, so it's hard to schedule visits. I would say Florida State, Ohio State and maybe even Cal or Auburn are schools I would like to visit. I'm still considering any school that has interest in me. The best school for me is going to offer me a combination of academics and athletics. I want to depend on my academics and not football." said Hurd, who has more than 20 offers.

After reading this, I am feeling good about our chances with Hicks and Shaw. Still am not sure we get Henderson though, in spite of what Duane says.
I think that's too many. We have 4 more schollies, 6 at best. I don't think Joyner comes here. I don't think we get both James or Hicks, and it seems like James goes elsewhere at this time, and we could end up losing Lewis, and Hagerup could go elsewhere. And I would be surprised if Turner made it. Worst case I am projecting...Buckrock;1548288; said:I think we round this class out with the following;
1. Shaw
2. Hicks
3. James
4. Bryant
5. Anderson
6. Hagerup
7. Joyner
8. Hyde (from last year)
A few of the recruits still have some academic work so we could lose one or two.

Irish Make Big Impression On Hurd

Toney Hurd didn?t know what he expected to see at Notre Dame during his official visit last weekend, but the cornerback from Marshall High School (Missouri City, Texas) liked what he saw when he got there.

1.Jordan Hicks
(Lakota West HS)
West Chester, OH
2.Lamarcus Joyner
(St. Thomas Aquinas HS)
Fort Lauderdale, FL
3.Christian Bryant
(Glenville HS)
Cleveland, OH
4.Joshua Shaw
(Palmdale HS)
Palmdale, CA
5.Latwan Anderson
(Glenville HS)
Cleveland, OH
6.Erick Howard
(Hoover HS)
North Canton, OH
7. With out last pick being a O-Linemen it being one of these 3 :
1.Seantrel Henderson
(Cretin Derham Hall)
Saint Paul, MN
i know its a long shot but he is a freak of nature
2.Matt James
(St. Xavier HS)
Cincinnati, OH
This is the one i want the most , a little more beef on him and watch out jack
3.Brandon Linder
(St. Thomas Aquinas HS)
Fort Lauderdale, FL
Maybe he joins his boys in the s&g
IMHO i think that even with Hyde coming in this class that we have enough spots for these players . If we get these players and don't lose any of the ones we got the Buckeyes once again IMO are going to be strait up loaded with talent .
