what?

isn't the point of a playoff to settle it on the field rather than in the court of public opinion?
Ideally, yes. But the same problems exist. Prejudice by the public about the Big Ten. How are you gonna make the playoff if you don't get invited?
Just like the Ohio State basketball team not getting an invitation to the NCAA field last year.

Seeing the prejudice against Big Ten teams, why would the Big Ten ever agree to a playoff? We would just get screwed by the court of public opinion. Better the Bowl agreements we have now.
right, like the #2 OSU squad that entered the season, or the #3 PSU squad who beat no one of consequence beyond the much maligned OSU squad.

That reality thing really gets in the way, huh?

Ridiculous and completely illogical. There's no chance the big ten is left out of a playoff system, no matter how many times you say they will.

You mean the mediocre Ohio State basketball team? Oh the horror. They might not invite Iowa to the BCS either :roll2:

The Bowl system is just better for the Big Ten right now.
A playoff would have saved OSU a lot of trouble, imo.

They would have held their own in an earlier round (closer to the season) and earned their way to the NC.
Last year, they may have been knocked out early, but no one would really care that much, as they would not keep out the other true NC contenders.

It's like UCLA. Being like the buffalo bills stinks for them, but doesn't make other NCAAB fans that angry about it.

My view is a bit more pragmatic. If fans/media didn't have us to pick on they would just find someone else to vent on. Fans being fans. The Bowl system has been good to the Big Ten.

I don't like the way we're locked in to playing the same conferences in the same lower bowls every year. If you finish 2nd and 3rd and bounce between the Cap One and the Outback, you get nothing but SEC. Not that there's anything wrong with playing the SEC, but I wish all the bowls didn't have such strict conference tie-ins...especially since BCS bowls even fuck up the traditions of the Rose Bowl, so why should the fucking Outback Bowl be the same every year?

The fact that UCLA won 7 straight NCAA titles and 10 over a 12-year period between 64-75 makes it diffuclt for me to categorize them as not getting over the Championship hump, even if they've made a lot of Final Fours without winning one lately.

But I know you weren't alive for that, so it's different for you youngsters. :tongue2:

How about when the "Neandrethals" (See: link) won 10 straight over the Australopithecus, there pops?
