Despite a low opinion of coach Lloyd Carr, The Sporting News' college football preview magazine is picking Michigan to win the Big Ten and finish third nationally.
The magazine, one of several on newsstands more than two months before the opening kickoff, lists Carr in the "five most overrated" coaches under the heading "HOT AIR."

It's going to be much harder to make the climb from the low teens in the poll this year than it was in 2002. Impressive wins against Texas Tech in game 1 and Washington State in game 3 shot us up from #13 to #6 by the time we went into Cincinnati for game 4. This year, we really don't have any marquee games until going to Penn State on Oct. 27, and that's assuming Penn State will be good this season...if they aren't then our only marquee game will be at Michigan.
