2007 Preseason and Regular season Polls

additionally, Louisiana puts more guys in the NFL per capita than any other state.

According to the Census Bureau, 11 states have at least twice as many people as Louisiana.

#7 Ohio: 11,478,006
#25 Louisiana: 4,287,768

It is notable though, that as good as LSU is, the vast majority of their players are from Louisiana. It is a credit to the state that they can make up a team that good out of mostly home-grown talent.

Herbstreit has been quite open about distrusting the Buckeye offense. He thinks that Penn State is a very tough game for us this year. I don't really think one can interpret too much in these polls yet and, quite frankly, I'd rather see our players be doubted by others, but confident in themselves, when we hit out big games this year.

Not anymore :slappy:

Bucks now at #7 at CFN.
Kentucky at #19, Louisville at #20.

ND the most highly ranked 0-3 team at #69 - 69 is way too mighty fine for ND. Next highest ranked 0-3 team? Western Michigan at #87, hten it all the way to #100, a spot occupied by Toledo.

Given their awful offensive (#119) and mediocre (#52) defensive rankings an overall ranking above 70 is generous.

An irony of Saine's last-second touchdown run against Washington is that while Coach Tressel regrets that it happened, it likely gave us the bump over Wisconsin in the AP poll. A 33-14 victory looks a lot better than a 27-14 victory, and especially so to those who didn't see the game and follow it closely.

Sportsmanship, while a virtue, does not translate into due respect in the AP poll.

Which is why some coaches like running up the score whenever possible (*cough* 59-20)

FWIW: I didn't see anyone dispute your post. To me, based on the proportion of LSU players who are home-grown, it made perfect sense.

I'm surprised that South Carolina is at #2 (of those listed). Perhaps that's because of grad21. :wink2:

I could be wrong, but I doubt he was calling you out on it. I believe his intention was to point out how Herbie's originally seemingly ridiculous poll voting worked out so well... Gotta hand it to Herbie. He is one of the keenest analysts in the sport.
