2007 Preseason and Regular season Polls

Mandel needs a kick in the ass. He's basically saying the preseason Big-10 rankings were right no matter what happens this season so if scUM is overrated there's no possible way the other teams could be underrated. Fucking idiot.

What happens when you schedule a I-AA team

If you are a Big Ten Power and you lose, you drop off the radar completely and if you win you slide a couple points in the poll.
Buckeyes went from 10th to 12th

What also happened:

Boeckman got to get some work in against a live opponent...

The defense was able to get some work in against a live opponent....

Essentially any talk of any QB controversy was ended in the 2nd Quarter...

The youth that Ohio State has showed up Saturday and that's a GOOD thing.

Rankings don't mean shit right now.

It makes perfect sense to me! You know, Michigan is over-rated. Ohio State beats Michigan on an annual basis. Therefore Ohio State is over-rated.

Look, let's put it in mathematical terms...

Let's say Michigan's skill level = X
Let's say Ohio State's skill level = Y

100 > X (in other words, Michigan is over-rated).
Y > X (in other words, Ohio State is routinely better than Michigan).

Therefore, only an idiot would not see that Y MUST be less than 100 also.

Crap, I don't know how to use sarcasm font.

Playing I-AA Youngstown State instead of our usual MAC team wasn't the cause. Florida blasted Western Kentucky, a I-AA team that Youngstown State 19-3 beat last year, and didn't drop. Louisville--who jumped us--beat up on I-AA Murray State, and rose in the polls (evidently 73 points against a I-AA team that went 2-9 and 1-10 the last two years is pretty impressive). Playing a I-AA team didn't hurt them.

We got jumped because Tressel had enough class to not run up the score, and because Cal beat #15 Tennessee and Georgia dominated Oklahoma State.

When you play a IAA team you are supposed to win. No one gives you gold points for beating a team like YSU. You are supposed to beat them. Voters do not watch the game and if you don't beat them by a ton then they may put you lower as per a team that beat a better team like Cal and Tenn. The voters know it is regarded as a practice.
If you do not beat them or barely scrape by then bar the door cuz the bear is trying to get in your house.

Our drop was due mainly to Cal's well deserved jump up. They beat a far better opponent, quite convincingly. As far as L'ville goes, how old is the story that the pollsters love offense? They see 70 points and vote...nothing earth shattering there.

Way too early to worry about polls.

It's unfortunate that we dropped in both polls, but Mili is correct: we fell because we didn't run up the score on a FCS opponent.

May I make another point?

The polls at this time of year are not very stable. Ohio State is about 20 votes out of eighth place. Win our first five or six games and we'll be in a very good place in the polls.

We don't have a Texas game this year and the Big Ten is getting a lot of disrespect. Forget the polls, just win out.

Let's not overemphasize the importance of polls right now. Let's just see what it all looks like when the first BCS poll comes out.
