Game Thread #1 Texas at #2/#3 tOSU, Sat. Aug. 30th, 12pm ET, FOX

Well after I’ve sobered up some. My thoughts.

1. The defense was outrageously good. We saw pressure, odd man fronts, and just good ball all the way around. That was better than last years matchup to be honest. Once again the defenses ability to bow up at the goal line is something else.

2. Overall clean game by the team. Very little penalty and mistakes.

3. You can tell the program is used to winning games like this now. Big games when it matters? They’ll be there. Good to see.

4. Sayin needs better help than he got today holy hell. How many drops were there? Shoot even Tate tried to drop that touchdown. Maybe the Texas defense will prove that good though?

Overall you can’t complain about a win over the #1 team. That said, I didn’t realize until moments ago that the offense really didn’t do anything all game. That’s a concern. There’s too much talent on offense to be that limited but you have to hope the reason for that was the close game.

We’ll find out soon enough if the offense was due to the style of the game or are there issues there? Who knows.

Watching live though it always felt like the offense was moving well which is odd because the statistics say otherwise.
Regarding the Offense we had two nice drives for TDs. We also had crappy field position on a number of possessions. It limited play calling and caused Hart to be more conservative. Third, as you mentioned, there were a number of dropped balls that stopped drives. Finally, TX may be the best D we face all regular season.

Yes credit to Texas too. Their defense was great and their punter was annoyingly good too.

Steve Sarkisian, Arch Manning Praise Buckeyes While Also Recognizing Texas’ Own Mistakes in the Longhorns’ 14-7 Defeat to Ohio State

“A lot of credit to Ohio State. They played a really disciplined game – zero turnovers, only two penalties. They took advantage of their opportunities when they got them, so credit to them.”– Steve Sarkisian

“They've got an excellent secondary. There's a strength on their team. Granted, the receivers are really good, but they've got an excellent secondary, and they've got a good scheme, and they've got a very smart secondary. So they made Arch work.”– Steve Sarkisian

“They were playing man and I forced it. Nothing was there, I should've just taken off and made a play with my feet and live to play another down. Can't have those turnovers. When you lose the turnover battle, you lose the game. That's what happened today.”– Arch Manning

Brandon Baker is #73 an OT for Texas.

A dozen of the best responses from (undoubtedly) Texas fans:

Freshman but man, he didn’t even look at the guy
In the biggest play of the game, no less. So so so bad
Never mind that how did CJ Hicks not fold Arch over on that?
C’mon now. Everyone knows 92 deserves triple team respect
Doing his best Cam Williams impersonation
Looks like he’s shaving points
2 false starts and completely ignored his block. Kid won’t start ever again
When I play CFB 26, I get pissed when my OL does this and say it isn’t realistic. Now I realize it is.
He is not earning his NIL money that’s what he is doing
Mfer out there just taking up space
Getting ass chewed Monday
Fucking idiot

Watched the highlights and few other things.

Woah does Julian have a quick release. It’s just a snap and it’s out. These next few weeks are going to be fun to see with the competition being much slower.

This secondary seems better than last years. I think Matthews is on a different level compared to Burke from last year. Probably should’ve caught that other throw and Sonny almost picked off.

Patricia is going to be fun to have for the next year. He did exactly what he said he’d do which is bring our athletes on pressure. The defense always felt safe though even when he blitzed. Unlike 2022 when Knowles would bring 7 with man coverage.
