I'm not what you would call an emotional person. I can count the entertainment that has brought a tear to my eye on one hand (final episode of Star Trek TNG, the beginning of Up, the end of Inside Out, Meet the Robinsons, and Big Fish). That being said Sunday is going to be a rough day. 8:30am tickets for Endgame then I get to finish the day off with the battle of Winterfell.

That being said my vote is for Endgame only because there are still 3 episodes of GoT after Sunday. I venture to guess I'll be halfway through hand 2 a month from now.

How is your day going?

Well, I drive into the Atlanta area from Charlotte last night for a meeting this morning. Popped out of bed this morning with plenty of time to get to the office. Jump into the car turn on the engine and it doesn't start. Tries to turn over but to no avail. WTF? Finally look down and notice no gas in the tank. Somebody stole the gas out of the tank last night and now I am at the mercy of AAA. How is your day going?

2019 BP Fundraising Drive

Dear BP family,

It's "that" time of year, again. The weather is warming (sort-of), the flowers are blooming, and the Spring game is right around the corner. Unlike in years past, I'd like to kick off our 2019 Drive with a personal, short note. While the past couple of years have been relatively positive for Clarity and me regarding BP, his health, our financials and Elise, 2019 started off with one health disaster after another (I broke my wrist in January; my spine, neck, pelvis and hips are all discombobulated thanks to my 42 pound 4 year-old; and I now have to have minor surgery on a tear duct) - culminating in a very scary hospital stay (and 6 weeks of missed work) for Clarity due to a primary diagnosis of Pyoderma Gangrenosum and a secondary diagnosis of MRSA. I'll let you Google those if you don't know what they are. They're awful.

Needless to say, the loss of work, the amount of unexpected medical bills between us, and the upcoming medical appointments has us in a very scary place financially. We don't yet know what caused his PG, but because it's an autoimmune issue, there are no simple tests to be run. Instead, he has to see many doctors from different fields to try to identify the culprit(s).

BP holds a very special place in our hearts, and I am making a direct plea because I have to exhaust all of our options. I promise to keep you all up to date on Clarity's health as we learn more, but for now there's nothing to report. The good news is that Elise is thriving in her second year of preschool and will be entering Pre-K in the Fall. I'm thinking I need to wrap her in bubble wrap to keep her safe. My, how time flies.

BP love to you all,

Jo/LongwoodBuck

P.S. We haven't yet put the structure in place for the 2019 Drive, but I assure you that I am keeping track of everyone who gives during this calendar year and you will be given your BP cash, banner and acknowledgement as soon as everything is in place.

Dual-Threat Quarterback / Athlete
Cincinnati OH Wyoming

Height: 6-foot-5
Weight: 190 lbs
Class: 2020 (high school)

Evan does not have an Ohio State offer, but the Buckeyes are ultra-thin at QB and will probably have to take two in the class of 2020. According to 247 Composite, Evan is the #15 prospect in Ohio (#511 overall), although he's #8 according to their own rankings (#390 overall); Rivals has him at #18 in Ohio.

  • Evan is a legit Power5 prospect (offers from Michigan State, Purdue, Indiana, Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma State, Louisville, Syracuse, Duke, and Miami of Florida, along with Cincinnati).
  • Ohio State is in desperate need of quarterback depth, and Evan is a local kid with size and skills. I would not be surprised to see Ohio State extend him an offer as a developmental prospect.
  • Evan's brother, Garyn, is a walk-on wide receiver at Ohio State, so the kid has solid Buckeye ties, maybe solid enough to keep him out of the transfer portal if he's not seeing regular playing time.
  • Evan is athletic enough (he's also a basketball star) that he could probably switch positions to wide receiver if Ohio State ever gets their quarterback situation straightened out.

Heartland Poker Tour

I'm sure there are bound to be some poker players among the OSU students and fanbase. I'm the marketing manager for Heartland Poker Tour. We're a nationally televised poker tour that has been around since 2005. We've awarded more than $100 million in prize pool money over the years.

For the first time ever, we're bringing the tour to Ohio. The event at Hollywood Columbus will run April 18th through the 29th. There are a variety of tournaments each day with buy-ins starting at $90 and going all the way up to $1,650. I'm guessing we'll end up paying out well over $1 million dollars in this series.

You can find all of the details at HPTpoker.com. You must be 21 to play. Let me know if there are any questions I can answer. Hope to see a few of you there.

The Birth of Now-Beloved Traditions

It is Hard to imagine the "i" not being dotted, or not hearing Hang On Sloopy. But Fossil Buckeyes heard Sloopy for the first time in 1965. It is impossible not to think of a Buckeye Football game without that song. A link to a great history of the tradition is below.

https://www.osu.edu/sloopy/

At Florida, we can't imagine the break in the 3rd-4th Quarter to be anything but our beloved "We are the Boys from Old Florida" song, as we sway back and forth linked arm in arm. That is a 1930s tradition which survives to this day. And as corny as it is, it remains special to us, linking Gator experience past and present.

This video above shows the old tradition, now followed by our newest one: a rendition of favorite son and Gator fan Tom Petty's "I Won't Back Down". That is now universally accepted as an every game song, much as Hang On Sloopy is at tOSU. Funny how something grabs a fan base al at once.

What is your favorite Buckeye tradition - and which new ones have you seen in your lifetime? And which new ones do you want to install?
