White is leaving, let's see how many ugly ways we can discuss this

Buckeye86

I do not choose to discuss it
It amuses me that a lot of you seem to be assuming Ohio State coaches chose to sit an immense talent on their bench that would have made the defense better. That over dozens of other explanations involving him not performing that well in practice or in the classroom for personal reasons or otherwise; you know, the exact thing that kept him from contributing all of last year up until literally the very last game of the season.

Throw in that the defense has been above average to great all year... and when they weren’t great they made half time adjustments and were great again.

What the hell are you all going on about, seriously?

History repeats itself.
- That is exactly what happened with White last year. Got sat for several other players that were clearly out of their league. It took injuries and an ejection for him to get a chance... and he turns out to be the best player in the back7 all year.

- I accept he doesn't fit in a starting11 role for the Defense we played this year. I still saw Werner getting beat on TE drags over and over and over again. Along with those few times we played 2 high, and the 2nd safety wasn't up to it... or even Werner attempting to play center field.
You'll never convince me White wouldn't be better in those scenarios. We already saw it from him. He had a role in this defense, even if it wasn't a starting one.

- Are we even keeping the 1 safety scheme next year?

- Coaches said last year he doesn't practice well. But has he ever had disciplinary problems? With what's been going on in his life, I think the speculation that he was in doghouse or brought this on himself is more disrespectful.

Clarett would have been really good in 2003 as well. Why wasn’t he on the field?

Given that we know exactly nothing about what was going on behind the scenes here, outside of a very difficult family situation that would very easily explain any issues, it is again amusing to me that you feel confident in knowing things you have no way of knowing... better than the coaches making decision who do know.

And again with the disrespectful rumor-mongering about disciplinary problems.
Clearly the better explanation is the coaches who fielded an elite defense all year don’t know what they are doing and you do. I hope you submitted your resume for the vacancy.

And for the record, it could be dozens of things outside of discipline... we have no idea... but somehow you do?

- You keep going to disciplinary, not me.
- You mean like the coaches last year knew Wint was the better player?
- Keep twisting my statements to say something completely different.

You're just lying at this point... and for what? To keep insinuating Brendon White is in the doghouse, and he must be because you refuse to entertain any other alternatives ?

You don't have any information on White being in trouble, yet continue implying he is...

How quickly people forget what our DBs looked like last year.
What makes our LB and SEC better..it’s not scheme they let them play. Davis and Schiano were bound and determined to take square pegs and jam them in the round holes of their “Professional Defense”. The results were underwhelming this year better results same talent..playing to the players strength. I am saying Hafley did a great job but the players and other coaches don’t need him now..because of the previous 11 months. They won’t take a step back just because Hafley was named HC at BC.

So... coaching does matter ??
I have no idea what you're trying to say. From claiming that any of us could coach the DBs at Ohio State, and they'd be rock stars ... to admitting that indeed last year's staff failed them.
It can't be both ways.

PS Davis was a LB coach. Grinch, Taver, and Schiano were involved with DBs.

What I’m saying the team is set we can’t use Hafley signing with BC as an excuse for the D in two weeks. The hay is in the barn..the secondary and D if healthy should play their best game with or without Hafley. The next game is all I care about.

Obviously I'm talking about the team in 2020.
Not sure what 2019 team has to do with that.
As am I. The 2019 has to do with 2020, as we don't know what scheme will be utilized. But with the talent we have coming in and currently have, White not playing didn't matter much. You mentioned Werner getting beat on drag routes, or Werner playing out of position at times, but guess what? We won those games, and the staff made adjustments. Like I've stated, I wish White nothing but the best, but Werner stepping up made White not needed in this defense. Idk, if Werner had been injured we may have seen more of White at the Bullet, but he didn't and we didn't. Thats fine, that I don't have to convince you that White would've been better in certain situations, because we're still a top 2 team and one of the top defenses without him. Not a knock, just a fact
And here we sit in the CFP. We will be looking for another co-DC in the off season, and White will be playing elsewhere.

it's absolutely not like last year. That year had dreadful defense, particularly at his safety spot. He was a dramatic improvement.

This year they have great defense and all league or all American play at 4 positions in the secondary.

He played this year. He was not an upgrade. People lose sight of that because it's been awhile.

when you've ruled something out based on imaginary, superior performances by a backup, it's fairly impossible to have a reasonable debate.

I fully expect Brendon to do well in a new situation.

I am sad that he may not be a part of the future where he could be very valuable. I view that very differently than the exaggeration of how badly he was underutilized this year.

As I said, he didn't have a role in this defense in the starting 11 due to scheme.
So not sure why you're quoting me here... out of context with B86 insisting White is in the doghouse, and he can't fathom anyone 2nd guessing a coaching staff that overlooks White's abilities when we've already seen that play out.

I fully expect Brendon to do well in a new situation.

Please show where I exaggerate anything. Use quotes.

Also, nothing imaginary about White's performance as a Safety. Check the thread title if you're confused.
