Conley has been named in a police report in connection to an incident at a Cleveland area hotel.

Former Ohio State corner Gareon Conley is a suspect in an ongoing sexual assault investigation. Cleveland19 News reported an earlier occurring incident at a Cleveland area hotel Monday but declined to name Conley, saying only instead a prominent possible first round NFL Draft pick was involved. Because of how the situation was first reported, speculation had swirled for the last 24 hours as to which prospective NFL Draft prospect it could be.

Per a police report, a 23-year old woman is accusing Conley of engaging in an unwanted sexual act in a hotel suite bathroom on April 9. The police later interviewed two people at the hotel room who identified as associates of Conley’s. The woman declined to speak with police after going to a local hospital.

A Cleveland Police Department spokesperson told Land-Grant Holy Land that at this time, no warrant has been issued and no formal charges have been filed. The situation remains an open investigation within the Cleveland Division of Police Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Unit. No further information was made available by the department.

Conley, who had been working out in the Cleveland area prior to the draft, attended Massillon Washington High School prior to his three years in Columbus. He contributed initially in a part-time capacity before becoming a regular for Ohio State’s 2016 College Football Playoff team. He had been pegged as a probable first-round 2017 NFL Draft pick.

usa_today_9699560.0.jpg

Here’s what we know about the schedule so far.

Earlier, it was reported that Ohio State basketball would host William & Mary as part of their non-conference schedule for next season.

Now we’ve obtained the contract for the game, and can confirm the date, and a few other details.

The Buckeyes will host the Tribe on December 9, 2017. Ohio State will pay out a $90,000 guarantee for the matchup. Time and broadcast information is still TBA.

William & Mary was pretty good last season, finishing with an RPI of 112, and a KenPom ranking of 133. If the Tribe can get back into that neighborhood again next season, it’ll provide some nice depth to Ohio State’s computer profile, assuming the Buckeyes are able to get the win.

Here’s what we know about Ohio State’s schedule so far:

Nov 23-Nov 26: PK80 Invitational

Dec 9: William & Mary

Dec 23: vs North Carolina (in New Orleans)

TBA: Robert Morris

TBA: Big Ten/ACC Challenge (likely in Columbus)

The Buckeyes will not participate in the Gavitt Games next season. I wouldn’t look for another heavyweight to be added to this schedule, but it wouldn’t shock me if Ohio State added a true road game to this slate if they aren’t getting one in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge.

We’ll have more on the schedule as it develops.

The Buckeyes could be building one of their best defensive line hauls in recent history.

After earning commitments from three of the country’s top defensive line recruits in last year’s recruiting class, the coaching staff is continuing to focus on the position heading into this year’s class.

The program has already earned a commitment from the No. 1 defensive tackle in five-star Taron Vincent (Bradenton, Fl / IMG Academy) but the team isn’t stopping there. Late Sunday evening we learned that top-rated weak-side defensive end Micah Parsons (Harrisburg / PA Harrisburg) had decommitted from Penn State, opening up his recruitment.

The five-star WDE has taken multiple unofficial visits to Ohio State in recent months, including the annual spring game. The update in his recruitment is an obvious good sign for the Buckeyes and since the news, the 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions have seen a whopping eight predictions in favor of Ohio State. The push has now made the Buckeyes the favorite in the race with 53 percent of the predictions in their favor.

Ohio State is not alone in the pursuit for Parsons though, as Alabama and Georgia are also both making a strong push to land the elite talent. These two schools, along with both Ohio State and Penn State, will likely receive an official visit from Parsons in the coming year. These visits will provide much insight into the direction he is leaning.

Parsons isn’t the only elite defensive line recruit the Buckeyes are in good position with, though. The country’s No. 2 strong-side defensive end is also strongly considering the Buckeyes and he could be announcing his decision sooner rather than later.

Brenton Cox (Stockbridge, GA / Stockbridge) has long been favored to be a Georgia Bulldog when it is all said and done. However, the Buckeyes have been making a strong push to land him and were rewarded when Cox listed the Bucks alongside his hometown school Georgia as his top two schools.

IM STILL MAKING MY DECISION BETWEEN OHIO STATE AND UGA !! , NO CHOICE HAS BEEN MADE !

— B R E N T O N (@Brenton_cox) April 17, 2017

The four-star talent had initially planned to announce his decision this past weekend, but after visiting Columbus for the Ohio State spring game, he elected to delay his decision date.

The commitment has been pushed back a few days to make sure the right choice is being made , so it won't be this Sunday

— B R E N T O N (@Brenton_cox) April 19, 2017

To help ensure he makes the right decision for him, Cox also attended Georgia’s spring game Saturday, and expressed excitement beforehand on Twitter.

Not to be outdone however, Marc Givler of BuckeyeGrove.com reported that coaches from Ohio State traveled to Georgia on Monday to meet with Cox.

The battle for Cox is obviously intense and at this point nobody knows exactly which direction, if any, he is leaning. This could be because Cox himself is still unsure. It is safe to assume that an announcement will be coming soon though, as he appears to be looking for inspiration for a commitment video.

Make sure to keep up with Land-Grant Holy Land for updates on both of these elite recruits.

MotS&G Post Spring Game Depth Chart: Quarterbacks

Post Spring Game Depth Chart: Quarterbacks
Richard Tongohan
via our good friends at Men of the Scarlet and Gray
Visit their fantastic blog and read the full article (and so much more) here

Barrett-1.jpg
The Starter:

The Quarterback is what makes the offense go and after a rare poor performance combined with poor offensive play calling, J.T. Barrett quickly returned to redeem himself for one last season at the helm. At the annual spring game, he showed why he was the starter, but his performance was far from perfect as he missed some of his receivers. He will lead this years Buckeye team to show that he is capable of being an deadly passer instead of someone who relies too heavily on his legs to make plays. Barrett will be an assassin because it is evident that Coach Wilson and Coach Day are making an impact with the Quarterbacks, but lets see how they execute when the season begins.

Burrow.jpg
Back-up Quarterback-A:

Joe Burrow was impressive when Barrett was pulled off of the field. He had three scores through the air and a bunch of yards, and he flat out was impressive. He found receivers at will and he showed that he could play at the Division I level. Coach Meyer has quite the dilemma on his hands, but it is a good problem to have. Burrow showed his ability to sling the rock and read the defenses he faced. Burrow has done all he can to secure the job after his performance at the spring game. It is up to Coach Meyer at this point.

Haskins.jpg
Back-up Quarterback-B:

Dwayne Haskins also threw for three touchdowns, and he too showed that he could play at the Division I level. He found his receiver and showed the ability to throw it deep, with a silky smooth touch and deadly accuracy. He will look to earn the backup job this season, and after J.T. leaves, he will look to beat out Burrow for the starting job. He is a year younger than Burrow and has the wheels and the biggest arm out of the rest of the Quarterbacks. If he can establish a foothold, he has the potential to succeed.

Martell.jpg
Scout Team Quarterback/Red Shirt:

Highly touted Quarterback out of Las Vegas was one of the biggest wins in last years recruiting class. He had quite the highlight reel and he established that during the spring game after he weaved through two defenders for a rushing touchdown. He was live and he did not have the black jersey on, so it is safe to say that he will work the scout team duties. He isn’t a terrible player and he has the traits that Coach Meyer looks for in a Quarterback. He has the arms, the speed and the accuracy, and he will be a star in the near future.

Former Buckeyes are building a positive trend for the program’s draftees.

“The Buckeyes had 12 picks last season, including Joey Bosa at No. 3. We’ll see in the coming years if the spike in picks is warranted by their performances on the field.”

-Luke Knox, ESPN

Under Urban Meyer, Ohio State has become a top destination for recruits destined for the NFL. In fact, the program has become the “hottest school now” when it comes to recent demand for players from Columbus, according to ESPN. With a dozen picks last season, including the likes of Ezekiel Elliott, Eli Apple and Joey Bosa, draft value is very much on the upswing for the Buckeyes.

The recent crop of draftees, however, has bucked the trend in player value from Ohio State. Overall, in the last 15 drafts, the Buckeyes have been underperformers, with higher draft value than on-field production in the NFL. Of 96 players drafted (2.99 draft percentage), former Buckeyes had an average performance percentage of just 2.2 percent, which accounts for the approximate value of the player as well as seasons spent starting and making the Pro Bowl. By comparison, Miami (Fl) has had 83 picks (2.71 draft percentage) and a 4.4 average performance percentage--the best in the NCAA. Considering players like Ed Reed and Andre Johnson, who had outstanding and lengthy careers, the data is not surprising. Other top-performing schools, which smaller draft pools, include Pittsburgh and Boston College. On the flip side, Clemson edged out Ohio State for the bottom spot.

While Ohio State has also been close to the bottom in producing NFL quarterbacks and tight ends, the Buckeyes are among the best in sending offensive linemen to the league, with 14 draft picks and a 3.1 average performance percentage (Wisconsin is top in that particular category). Surprisingly, and something which might shift in coming years, Ohio State was also near the bottom in sending highly successful linebackers and defensive linemen to the pros.

Even so, those former Buckeyes who find success in the NFL tend to maintain it, with nearly 17 percent of draftees starting at least four NFL seasons.

“Ohio State had more than a dozen All-Americans during that stretch, but nobody had captured a national award since Malcolm Jenkins won the Thorpe Award in 2008.”

-Ryan Ginn, Land of 10

Given the 25 national awards bestowed to individual college football players on an annual basis, it seems unlikely that players at Ohio State--which boasts one of the top recruiting and development pipelines in the nation--would have a drought in being awarded these honors. Given the success of Ohio State on a national scale, a dearth of awards seemed even more doubtful. However, that was exactly the case, as Pat Elflein’s Rimington Trophy broke an eight year dry spell dating back to 2008, when Malcolm Jenkins won the Thorpe Award.

Despite what recent history has shown, there are a number of contenders for national awards currently on the roster at Ohio State. For starters, Billy Price, Elflein’s teammate on the offensive line, is a prime candidate for the Rimington Award himself come this season. Like Elflein, he is shifting from guard to center, and is the de facto leader of the offensive line. An All-American last season, Price is already on respected as a standout lineman.

Quarterback J.T. Barrett, as a fifth-year senior who has started for most of his career, deserves a shot at being recognized as well, even with inconsistent play last season. He remains the record holder for most major program passing records, and is likely to surpass the others in his senior season. Along with a new offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, Barrett should have a solid senior season, and one which could position himself as one of the top quarterbacks nationally.

Perhaps the downfall of awards for defensive players at Ohio State has been their depth. At defensive back, none among the trio of Malik Hooker, Marshon Lattimore and Gareon Conley, all of whom are expected to be taken early in the first round of this week’s NFL Draft, were even considered finalists for the Thorpe Award. The defensive ends at Ohio State face a similar predicament this year. With so much depth, it will be difficult to stand out on a national scale when, as an individual, a player might not even look like the best player on his team consistently. Still, a player like Nick Bosa, who is splitting time at defensive end, could have a shot at an award.

“Our players have worked really hard and have come together as a team. We have put a lot of emphasis on taking care of your own court and making sure you aren’t playing off the scoreboard too much and I think they did that today. This means a lot to them.”

-Ohio State women’s tennis coach Melissa Schaub, via The Ohio State University

In a big weekend for Ohio State tennis, both the men’s and women’s teams won outright Big Ten regular season titles.

For the men, a 6-1 win over Northwestern Friday was enough to clinch the conference crown, and another 4-3 victory over Illinois in Urbana-Champagne Sunday capped the squad’s 11th undefeated conference season in 12 years. Head coach Ty Tucker, who arrived in Columbus in 2000, turned the squad around after two-straight 0-10 seasons in conference play to become perennial Big Ten powers. With the win, men’s tennis also became the seventh program at Ohio State to win 12 or more straight conference titles.

Illinois, who had been in second place in the Big Ten heading into Sunday’s match, jumped out to a 3-0 lead. For the first time since February, Ohio State dropped the doubles point, and No. 1 singles seed Mikael Torpegaard lost his first singles matchup of the year. After a loss by Martin Joyce on the No. 4-singles court, the Buckeyes mounted a comeback, winning the final four singles matches of the day, including wins by two freshmen, to come out on top.

The Buckeyes will be the top seed in next week’s Big Ten men’s tennis tournament, to be played in West Lafayette.

Not to be outdone, the women’s squad completed an undefeated season of their own, defeating Purdue Sunday 4-0 in Columbus to clinch their second-straight conference title and 11-0 Big Ten season. On the run, the team went 73-1, dropping just a single match in Big Ten play, and had 18 shutouts on the season. The senior class for the Buckeyes is also the winningest in program history, with 95 career wins.

Against Purdue, the Buckeyes jumped out to a quick lead, winning the doubles point after taking the first two matches. Francesca Di Lorenzo, the No.1 singles seed, won in straight sets on court one, and was followed up with wins from Gabriella De Santis and Ferny Angeles Paz to seal the win.

The women’s squad will also be the top seed in the Big Ten women’s tennis tournament in Urbana-Champagne next week.

The Buckeyes reportedly have their eyes on another possible transfer.

With Howard guard James Daniel set to visit Columbus in the coming weeks, Thad Matta and the Ohio State basketball program have now reportedly showed interest in another transfer on the market.

Per Adam Zagoria, OSU, Texas, Hawaii, UMass, and Pittsburgh have all been in contact with former Mount St. Mary’s standout point guard Elijah Long.

— Adam Zagoria (@AdamZagoria) April 23, 2017

With two years of eligibility left on the college level after sitting out next season, the 6’0, 180-pound Long would add not just another distributor, but also a proven scoring option to the Buckeyes lineup.

Starting 35 of 36 ball games as a sophomore, Long averaged 15 points, five rebounds, four assists, and one steal last season for the Mountaineers. His play on the court was one of the main reasons Mount St. Mary’s made it to the NCAA Tournament.

Putting up 24 points in a 71-61 championship game win over St. Francis (PA), he was named MVP of the NEC tournament to give his squad the automatic bid to March Madness.

A native of Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, Long played his high school ball at John Carroll in Bel Air, MD. Before deciding on Mount St. Mary’s, he held scholarship offers from programs such as Florida Gulf Coast, and Old Dominion.
