The Buckeyes will look to move into the Sweet 16 be exacting some revenge from No. 4 Gonzaga.

Despite a furious, late-game rally by the No. 12 South Dakota State Jackrabbits, the No. 5 Ohio State Buckeyes held on for a 81-73 victory in their first game in the NCAA Tournament since the 2015 season. Earlier on Thursday at the Taco Bell Arena in Boise, Idaho, the No. 4 Gonzaga Bulldogs also had a difficult fight, there’s coming against the No. 13 UNC Greensboro Spartans. Last year’s national runners-up got a late three-pointer from Zach Norvell that propelled them to a 68-64 win.

After all of the day’s games were completed, the NCAA announced that the two teams would meet for the second time this year at 7:45 p.m. ET on Saturday, March 17 on CBS.

The Buckeyes and Bulldogs met on Thanksgiving night, Nov. 23, in Portland, Ore. as part of the PK80 Tournament. The Zags ran away with an 86-59 blowout win. In that game, the eventual Big Ten Player of the Year Keita Bates-Diop was held to just seven points on 2-of-7 shooting. Jae’Sean Tate and C.J. Jackson led the Buckeyes in scoring with a dozen points apiece, but it was Gonzaga’s pair of Johnathan Williams and Josh Perkins that dominated the game with 21 and 20 points respectively.

The Buckeyes will look to move into the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2013, while the Zags will look to book their fourth straight trip.

The OSU Women’s team will open up their NCAA Tournament on Saturday as well. The No. 3 Buckeyes will host the No. 14 George Washington Colonials at St. John Arena at 1:30 p.m. ET.

Land-Grant Holy Land will have all of your NCAA Tournament coverage for both teams on Saturday, both on the site and on Twitter @Landgrant33.

Buckeyes make the Top 10 list for Missouri stud.

This week the football Buckeyes were on Spring Break, so there was no action going on inside the Woody Hayes Athletic Center. While some of the Buckeyes headed for home, some players such as Dwayne Haskins was out hitting the beach to work with NFL receivers. The start of next week will resume spring football practices which gives all of us Buckeye fans something to be excited about.

Off of the football field and onto the basketball court. though. The Buckeye hoopers played and won their first round tourney game yesterday over South Dakota State—giving us another reason to praise first year coach Chris Holtmann. With so many happenings in Columbus and around the country for the beloved Bucks, there’s never downtime for Ohio State.

One of their key reasons for success: They never stop working.

Meet me in St. Louie

The Ohio State to St. Louis connection in football recruiting starts truly with none other than one of the great Buckeye running backs of all time in Ezekiel Elliott. Since Elliott’s departure for the NFL, Urban Meyer and his staff have gone back to the well in St. Louis—and have landed not one, but two key wide receiver prospects in their 2018 recruiting haul. With Kamryn Babb and Cameron Brown in the fold and continuing on what is hopefully the start of a St. Louis-to-Columbus pipeline, the Buckeyes (along with their coaching staff) look to have not one intention of stopping their recruiting in The Gateway to the West.

Yesterday, on his birthday, four-star inside linebacker Shammond Cooper (St. Louis / Trinity Catholic) announced his Top 10 schools. Making the cut on the nation’s seventh best inside linebacker’s list included Clemson, Oklahoma, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Texas, Kentucky, Missouri, Texas A&M and Ohio State. Cooper currently holds 30 offers, so trimming a list to 10 is something not to take lightly, but it’s also important to note this list may not exactly stay at 10 for a while, as a possible trimming may also occur.

Of the 10, Oklahoma is thought to be the favorite in Cooper’s recruitment so far, but the other schools certainly have a shot to impress and make their case.

One thing Ohio State has going for them is the fact that St. Louis prep stars are making the trek to Columbus more than ever before, so current players can be in Shammond’s ear making their case for why Ohio State is the place to be. If Meyer and his staff can get Cooper on campus, that will certainly help their chances—but only time will tell.

BIG plans in 2020

This 2018 recruiting haul was one for the ages. When you land the nation’s top offensive tackle, a position of need for Ohio State, on signing day, your fan base and coaching staff is one happy group of football crazed individuals. In the 2019 class, the Buckeyes are hoping for much of the same since they’ll see another exodus of talent from the offensive line after this fall. Things are progressing nicely for the Buckeyes as they already own commitments from two spectacular offensive tackles in 2019 from the likes of Doug Nester and Ryan Jacoby.

Look ahead to the 2020 class, though, and one prospect is becoming very familiar with Ohio State and what the Buckeyes have to offer. Fortunately, the commute isn’t too great for this prospect as the in-state stud is continuously hearing and being heard by all things concerning Buckeye football. Enter Paris Johnson Jr., the nation’s top overall tackle prospect already in the 2020 class. The St. Xavier star is already turning heads all over the country and rightfully so. Only a high school sophomore with two varsity seasons still to be played, Paris stands at 6-foot-7, 275 pounds and has more room to grow—if you can believe that. One the Buckeyes can’t let “get away,” Johnson is already priority No. 1.

Country's No. 1 offensive tackle to attend the #Buckeyes' spring game FREE https://t.co/k4oWgpMsQL

— Bill Kurelic (@Bill_Kurelic) March 15, 2018

Yesterday, in an article via Bill Kurelic, Johnson’s plans were laid out for fans to see what his spring will hold in terms of recruiting. For Ohio State, all things are gravy right now as Paris not only plans to visit Ohio State once this month, but twice—as well as attending the annual spring game. With a prospect of this size and caliber, it’s obvious Ohio State wants him, but being an in-state player, this is truly a must get for Meyer.
