It was an emotional moment when Shazier took the stage months after his devastating injury.
Following an injury last season in a Monday Night Football game against the Cincinnati Bengals that put his playing career, and even his life, in jeopardy, Ohio State legend Ryan Shazier has been an inspiration to his teammates, fans, and everyone in the football community.
The next chapter on his road to recovery happened on Thursday night as he walked out— let me repeat, Ryan Shazier walked out— to the podium to deliver the Pittsburgh Steelers’ first round selection in the 2018 NFL Draft.
With his fiancé by his side, Shazier slowly, but confidently, made his way out onto the stage after being welcomed by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, and announced that the Steelers had selected Virginia Tech safety Terrell Edmunds with the 28th pick of the first round.
Following the Bills’ selection of his brother Tremaine, the Edmundses are the first set of brothers to be taken in the first round in the history of the NFL Draft.
Congratulations to the Edmunds brothers, but these tears on my face aren’t for you. What a moment to see Shazier on stage, one step (literally) close to rehabilitation.
