Bernard W. Bierman (March 11, 1894 – March 7, 1977) was an American college football coach best known for his years as head coach of the Minnesota Golden Gophers football program. Between 1934-41, his Minnesota teams won five national championships (1934, 1935, 1936, 1940, and 1941), seven Big Ten championships (1933, 1934, 1935, 1937, 1938, 1940, and 1941) and had four perfect seasons (1934, 1935, 1940, 1941). Bierman's five national championships rank him among the greatest college football coaches of all time, as only Nick Saban (7) and Bear Bryant (6) have won more.

P.S. Woody is also credited with 5 National Championships.

Woody Hayes, 5

Hayes coached at Ohio State from 1951-78, winning his titles in 1954, 1957, 1961, 1968 and 1970. Hayes went 205-61-10 with the Buckeyes, won 13 Big Ten titles and famously battled with Bo Schembechler's Michigan in The Ten Year War.

Rule Changes (CNNSI link)

Rolling Signing Day coming to college football?

Recruiting has changed in college football over the last three years as the transfer portal and NIL have all been introduced. Now with increased scholarship counts and more set portal windows, staff and fans alike are still adjusting to the new norm in college athletics as a whole.

Football is the one sport that the overall calendar still doesn’t make a lot of sense when it comes to these new recruiting windows. With two portal periods after the season and in the spring, there is a lot to track for staff. Add in the early signing period falling right as many teams start prepping for bowl games, and it all is a mess. That is why we might be seeing a change come on the signing of high school players’ side of things.

According to Pete Thamel of ESPN, the idea of a ‘Rolling Signing Day’ is being tossed around by some heads in the college football space. What would that do? Well, it would schools and recruits alike lock down a spot on the roster almost immediately.

“Currently, they can’t formalize the agreements with schools until the December signing period, which means the deals aren’t binding. That leaves uncertainty on both sides,” Thamel said in his tweet thread. “The idea of a Rolling Singing Day would mean that when an offer is accepted by a recruit, they can sign an agreement that’s binding by both parties.”

With National Signing Day now almost meaning nothing overall, and the new Rev Share era of college sports now in effect, this seems to make a ton of sense for everyone involved. As Thamel says, this is likely still a ways away, but it would bring a whole other part to the college football recruiting process as a whole.

Just sayin': This is a great proposal and is much needed. Along with it, there should be an additional stipulation: Once a player signs his/her LOI he/she is committed to playing (i.e. can not transfer to another school for) at least 1 season at that school unless there is a head coaching change.
Would you also allow a transfer if a school receives severe sanctions for NCAA violations, such as cheating and then attempting to cover it up from investigation?

Columbus Crew SC (2008, 2020, 2023 MLS Champions)

I just want to put it in the record that I am watching Kansas City and San Diego and I truly have no dog in this fight. In fact there are a couple guys I dislike on each team.

That said.... The referee sucks more balls than I can explain. I have no idea what fuckin match this no talent assclown is watching.

Warfield then lined up on the opposite side of the field for the next play. Unverferth took the snap from under center and initiated a play-action fake to his fullback before rolling out to the left and resetting his feet.

What happened next may be the most underappreciated touchdown catch in the history of Ohio State football.

At 17:34 in the above YouTube video of The Game, Warfield took off from the line of scrimmage out of a three-point stance and successfully evaded the Michigan defensive back in front of him playing shallow coverage. Before Warfield had even crossed the red zone on his go route, Unverferth had already made up his mind to chuck the ball deep despite the presence of two Wolverine safeties.

Beginning his leap from the goal line, Warfield put his broad jump credentials into action and flew through the air while turning back to the throw. He caught the first score of the day for the Buckeyes over a pair of defenders with just 41 seconds remaining in the first half.

The moment of brilliance from Warfield clearly inspired a comeback attitude from Ohio State's entire team heading into the locker room. The Wolverines would not score again for the remainder of The Game, and the Buckeyes finally captured the lead midway through the final quarter after a 15-play, 76-yard drive that concluded in a five-yard touchdown rush for Unverferth. Ohio State won 1963's edition of The Game by a final score of 14-10 and successfully avoided ending the season with merely a .500 record.

Warfield finished the game with five receptions for 76 yards and the phenomenal touchdown catch that proved to foreshadow his future as one of the greatest wide receivers of his era in professional football. Both totals were his second-most in a single contest across his Ohio State career only to his efforts against Northwestern in the previous game.

Two days later, the Cleveland Browns selected Warfield with the 11th overall pick in the 1964 NFL Draft. Warfield became one of six future Hall of Famers selected among the first 18 picks in that class. His conversion to wide receiver helped the Browns win the NFL Championship during his rookie year in 1964, and many fans of the franchise — including Ramzy Nasrallah — still consider him one of the best receivers in team history.

2027 NC DL Rashad Streets (Verbal Offer)

The only certainties in this world are that the sun rises in the east, death and taxes, and that tOSU will provide magnificent official visits to recruits. The WOW factor is always high, and a recruit always reports that tOSU has set the bar at a high level. Maybe that's a timing effect, and after a day or two the recruit's feet are back on the ground, but seems to always work out that way. Heck, just seeing the quality of athlete getting hands-on teaching from a heckuva stable of coachs should be plenty, but the facilities, tradition, etc is second to none.

Seattle Kraken forward John Hayden and the team’s blue-haired troll mascot had a close call with a brown bear during a promotional video shoot in Alaska.

Hayden and the mascot named Buoy were on a fly-fishing outing in Katmai National Park as part of a trip promoting youth hockey when the bear approached, video released by the team shows.

Knee-deep in a shallow river, they wore waders and other fly-fishing gear. Hayden had been fishing, but a guide quickly took the rod from him.

The bear charged toward the mascot, splashing water, but turned away before making contact as Hayden, Buoy and the film crew waded back to shore through a gentle current.

SF Brice Sensabaugh (Utah Jazz)

Brice Sensabaugh lighting up NBA Summer League for the Utah Jazz

The former Buckeye standout has been turning heads with his latest play in the NBA Summer League.

It’s the time of year for the annual NBA Summer League, and while there are a handful of former Ohio State basketball players set to play this summer, there’s one in particular who has been on a tear in the early Summer League action.

Brice Sensabaugh put together a masterclass performance last night in the Salt Lake City Summer League in a comeback win by the Utah Jazz setting the league's scoring record with 37 points on 9-14 shooting from the field, connected on six threes and got to the free throw line frequently going 13-14 from there. He was also effective on the defensive side of the ball with two steals, one of which came in the final seconds, that helped in securing the win.

The former Buckeye forward was scoring in any way that he wanted to with dazzling step-back threes off the dribble and on the catch-and-shoot. He also attacked the basket and had strong finishes at the rim.

Last night was a continuation from Utah’s first Summer League game, where Sensabaugh put in 19 points on 7-13 shooting and 5-8 from deep. Both performances lead to Ws in the win column.

2026 OH OL Sam Greer is a Buckeye!!!

And I see none of the Columbus City League schools listed - again. Used to have some creditable schools, guess the HS talent fled to places like Pickerington. And now I guess Powell (used to be a stop sign on 315). Watterson (and DeSales) were 'buying' players back in the 60's, and from the above names (mostly Catholic schools on the list), they're still buying them. Guess the Arlington's and Worthington's of the world don't play football anymore? Ohio State used to take 4-5 recruits a year from the Franklin County area. Now, looks like two schools. Oh, well, hopefully the mandala will turn around again, hopefully in my lifetime.
