Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin launches landmark Mars mission in New Glenn rocket’s first big test​

Once reaching orbit, New Glenn has among the most exciting tasks a rocket can be assigned. It’s slated to deliver the twin Escapade satellites on a path toward Lagrange Point 2, or L2 — a cosmic balance point about 1.5 million kilometers (930,000 miles) from Earth.

Lagrange Points can be useful for various types of missions because they allow spacecraft to potentially stay in orbit for a very long time while using minimal fuel. The James Webb Space Telescope, for example, is in orbit around L2.

Led by the University of California, Berkeley, a team of researchers will study the planet’s atmosphere — working to evaluate why Mars began to lose its once-dense atmosphere billions of years ago and assess radiation conditions for future explorers.

“Throughout the Escapade mission, the two satellites will take simultaneous measurements from nearly the planet’s entire upper atmosphere and magnetosphere, ranging from altitudes between approximately 100 and 6,200 miles (160 and 10,000 kilometers),” according to a UC Berkeley news release about the mission. “Coordinated, multipoint observations are necessary to … unravel the chain of cause and effect within the system.”

Escapade is part of NASA’s SIMPLEx — or Small, Innovative Missions for Planetary Exploration — program, which aims to spur researchers and companies to devise ways to use small, inexpensive spacecraft to carry out science investigations at far cheaper than typical price points.

The mission’s cost was estimated to be less than $100 million, compared with the roughly $300 million to $600 million price tags of other NASA satellites orbiting Mars.

Jumping on the Caitlyn Clark bandwagon, watched a bit yesterday with CC playing in the Annika S golf tournament. She looked every bit the golfer, saw her plunk a hybrid in the drink. Guess I expected the ball to dance up to the pin, but hey, she doesn't make all the threes does she? Saw some talent, (she does have a cohesive swing - but not like Nelly Korda), but not a terrible amount of experience. I know, it was/is more of a promotional thing. She had Sophie and Lexie in shorts on her bag, but never really saw either tote it. Anyway, know that the difference between a successful male pro, and a +4 handicap for a collegiate golfer is a very wide chasm, how so is it with the women's tour?

Couple of years in the minor leagues, and he'll be ready for the big time.

Julian Sayin, Kayden McDonald and Jeremiah Smith Lead Pro Football Focus’ Highest-Graded Ohio State Players Against Purdue​

1. QB Julian Sayin (89.2)​

Are we living in a Bill Murray movie? For the fifth straight week, Sayin earned the highest grade among all Ohio State players. His passing grade of 88.8 against Purdue was the second-best in the nation among all quarterbacks with at least 25 pass attempts for Week 11, and his offensive grade of 89.2 was the best in the conference among QBs with a minimum of 25 passes.

For the season, Sayin continues to lead all quarterbacks in the FBS in offensive and passing grades. He has a 93.5 in both categories, as his passing grade is up from last week's grade of 93.1.

2. DT Kayden McDonald (88.3)​

McDonald earned the nation’s highest grade among defensive tackles (88.3) for his play against Purdue. It’s the second week in a row that an Ohio State defensive tackle has been the nation’s best, as Eddrick Houston was PFF’s highest-graded DT of the week for his performance vs. Penn State.

McDonald's rushing defense grade of 89.4 was the second-best in the nation for DTs in Week 11, and his 87.6 overall grade for the season is the best among Big Ten players at his position.

3. WR Jeremiah Smith (87.2)​

Smith's receiving grade of 87.8 and his overall grade of 87.2 against the Boilermakers were the best in the Big Ten for the week among all players with at least four catches. For the season, Smith has improved by 2.3 points from last week and leads the nation with an offensive grade of 90.3 among receivers with at least two targets.

Smith was Ohio State’s third-highest-graded player behind Sayin and a defensive tackle for the second week in a row, with McDonald replacing Houston in this week’s top three.

52 of 110 combined shots were 3 point attempts, most of which were missed. This is why I stopped watching basketball. It's turned into a chuck and pray sport.

McQuaide plays in 15th season
Former Ohio State long snapper Jake McQuaide’s NFL career officially reached 15 years on Sunday as he made his first game appearance of the season in the Los Angeles Rams’ 42-26 win over the San Francisco 49ers.

Added to the Rams’ practice squad last week, McQuaide was elevated to the active roster for Sunday’s game. After he successfully handled snapping duties for all of the Rams’ six extra points and two punts, Los Angeles signed him to its active roster on Monday as a permanent replacement for its former long snapper, Alex Ward.

Now that he’s back in the NFL, McQuaide is once again tied with Cameron Heyward – who also started his NFL career in 2011 – for the longest-tenured former Ohio State player in the league. McQuaide’s reunion with the Rams, whom he spent his first 10 NFL seasons with after they signed him as an undrafted free agent in 2011, comes after stints with the Dallas Cowboys, Detroit Lions, Chicago Bears, Minnesota Vikings, Miami Dolphins and Pittsburgh Steelers over the last five years.

Am I the only one who didn't know/hear about a 'secret 2027 commit'? In all probability, yes. However, if someone would fill me in, that would be fine. Secret commits have been around forever, and the 'big reveal' always happens sooner or later. Prefer it to be the Buckeyes, but some say I'm biased. Anyway, it appears that tOSU's WR room is stacked with 5* cordwood, and that some/all of the 3-4*s get the training, but not the playing. Taking 5-6 every season, doesn't seem sustainable without defections, as seems to be 3 primary, and 3-4 available to give the 1's a break.
