Nebraska Cornhuskers (corn)

Nebraska loses!

You heard it here first.

Nebraska football has a surprising path to a New Year's bowl

Now that the Nebraska football team is going bowling, another win could get them into a prestigious game.

Nebraska football is almost certainly going to a bowl for the first time since the 2016 season and it’s safe to say that for this year at least, no one is particularly picky about what game the Huskers go to.

Now that Nebraska football has six wins, there is a road map where they could get one of those prestigious New Year’s bowl games. Despite the fact that they would only have seven wins if they managed to get there.

Should the Huskers improve to 7-5 on Black Friday, and the playoffs do what many think the playoffs will do, then the Big Ten will likely get four teams into the field. Right now Ohio State, Oregon, Penn State and Indiana appear to be going.

That would leave Illinois and Nebraska football as the two best bowl teams left. Illinois could be as good as 9-3 so they’d obviously get the first choice, but the ability for Husker fans to travel could have a New Years Day level bowl come calling. The Reliaquest on New Years Eve makes the most sense. Things just got even more interesting especially with some analysts already pushing for a Nebraska vs Oklahoma bowl matchup.

WR Jameson Williams (transfer to Alabama, Detroit Lions)

Prosecutor: Lions' Jameson Williams won't face charges after review

No legal action will be issued against Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams stemming from his Oct. 8 traffic stop, Wayne County prosecutors said.

After reviewing a warrant request on a concealed weapons charge, the Wayne County prosecutor's office concluded that the warrant was denied because the case law is silent regarding the specific issue and the legislative intent of the concealed pistol license (CPL) statute does not support charges under these facts.

Prosecutor Kym Worthy released a statement, saying that the office looked at the case thoroughly and objectively despite Williams' NFL status.

"We did not consider that Mr. Williams is a Detroit professional athlete in our decision making," she wrote. "We have charged Detroit area athletes before and would not have hesitated to do so again if the facts of this case could be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.

"When it comes to charging decisions, we do not take into consideration who the potential defendant is, how much power and influence they have, or how beloved they may be. We deal with the facts and the law only."

Kevin Wilson (Former HC Tulsa)

Add this to the ever growing list of things ruining the sport - if you can't engineer a near immediate turnaround, regardless of what you inherited, you're gone after a year or two. Shits ridiculous.

Well yes, it is ridiculous; but that is what college football is today. With the transfer portal it does make a turnaround potentially possible a lot quicker than years past; look what Curt Cignetti did at Indiana this year. However, to actually achieve this "the stars do have to be aligned" and you undoubtedly need a very generous NIL budget. He probably had neither at Tulsa.

I've said before that the school should give the couch 4 years so he has "his players", etc. However, I'm torn on this one. Kevin Wilson may be an example of the "Peter Principle" (i.e. great assistant coach; but, not so great head coach). In six seasons her never had a winning record at Indiana (26-47) and so for this season his record at Tulsa is no better than last year's (i.e. he isn't showing that is is making any progress).

He had a 5 year contract with Tulsa and will undoubtedly get a nice buyout. In addition, he has a pretty good resume including his time at Ohio State:

Prior to taking over the Golden Hurricane, Wilson was the offensive coordinator and tight ends coach at Ohio State from 2017-22. During that time, Wilson helped boost Ohio State to four Big Ten titles and two appearances in the College Football Playoff.

If he wants to stay in coaching he should be able to get another assistant and/or coordinator position somewhere.

Illinois Fighting Illini (you'll see)

It may just be a me problem, but my favorite thing about the game, aside from the win obviously is I don't have to hear ALL ABOARD HAHAHAHAHAHAHA" every fucking play over the Rutgers PA...I swear I heard it on TV 10 times not even halfway through the 1st qtr...it almost made me not like Crazy Train anymore, seriously, fucking change it up Rutgers. Surely their fans even get tired of it too.
