Game Thread #2 tOSU at #3 Oregon, Sat. Oct. 12, 7:30 pm ET, NBC

I agree that they could have run the ball more. Unfortunately in the second half they were only averaging around 3.6 per rush without Simmons. I don't think they would have been able to get to the 15. They still might have been able to get to the edge of Fielding's range.
When I said ‘run 3 plays’, I just meant get 3 plays executed, not that they be running plays. If they were all running plays, the clock would have been a major issue unless 2 of the 3 went out of bounds or got a first down, so I wasn‘t looking for multiple running plays.

HC Ryan Day (2019 B1G Media COY)

I think that we’ve already established that tOSU should not be a place where a HC cuts his teeth, no? So, in a lot of ways, this needs to be a name we all know.

This is such a tired argument. Dan Lanning is a first time head coach at an elite program who started after Day and he coached circles around him on Saturday. A lot of it just comes down to how you are wired.

Cleveland Guardindians (2024 AL Central Champs)

Bringing in the worst hitter in baseball over the last 5-6 years as a pinch hitter and giving the Yankees two free outs when you were still technically in the game was a...choice.

Hedges has now made the final out in 2 games this post season. He should never be in position for that to happen ever. Vogt has made a bunch of bad moves this postseason

*2024 tCun Shenanigans, Arguments, Cobras, Feckless Marmots, Fake Pandas, Dirty Cheaters

I think of all fanbases that ours would know better than to judge a team by how they perform against Purdue.

Imagine being told any time the last 20 years that Michigan coming off a National Championship* season would only be only 3 point favorites at Illinois.

Bielema is turning Illinois into a respectable team, which is something that should be near impossible to do.

I think Bielema will out-coach Moore and knock Michigan out of the Top 25 where they belong. * = fugazi

Fixed. You were missing an asterisk.

2024 tOSU Defense Discussion

On the other hand, if Knowles knows that the DL cannot generate pressure, why not adjust the scheme to take that into consideration ? If indeed LJ is "sabotaging" Knowles' job as a DC why allow it to continue from his standpoint ? Why not say it's either him or me ? He is the defense's boss and earns a couple of Million Dollars per year to do so. Why not do boss shit ?

He has tried, which is how you end up getting beat in Cover Zero repeatedly. You can't win on D if you're calling plays based on four guys essentially being wastes of space. That's not a tenable situation. There's not a D coordinator on Earth that can work around that.

Johnson does not have four guys who can reliably generate pressure but also refuses to not have four down linemen. If the shit about Johnson demanding four lineman and control of rotation is correct, it's frankly a miracle Knowles has saved the defense as much as he has.

This team coaches too scared. They play plateaued DEs who can't get home because they're worried Curry/Melton/Jackson might be worse. They keep a completely lost Styles in at LB all game because they're afraid Hicks or Reese will somehow be more scared or miss more tackles. They keep a completely burned Denzel Burke in because they're afraid Jermaine Matthews will somehow make a bigger mistake than getting absolutely torched repeatedly. And then when someone gets hurt and they need to lean on one of these guys they've been scared shitless to give snaps to, they wonder why that guy plays with no confidence.

DC Jim Knowles (Official Thread)

The only pass rush move any of our DEs have is an outside bull rush so our opponents just use their momentum against them and run them around the pocket now, giving the QB room to step up in the pocket and a lane to run if necessary. It's remarkably lazy coaching on our end.

Exactly. On almost every defensive down I see the OL just keep them out of the kitchen. They just use the DE momentum to let them push down field and keep them from engaging in the play by letting them overrun.

Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

It makes sense in the south to wear whites at home so that the away team has to wear a dark color that absorbs the heat from the sun. I understand that back in the day NFL teams wore whites at home generally, and the Browns wore the dark jerseys at home to keep warmer in Municipal Stadium in the winter. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
I’m so old I remember that the Browns wore white at home all through the 50s and 60s. They also won a great deal.

Thee Ohio State University News

UC is our only real competition among publics, and we've always managed to get along with them pretty well until Ono's nonsense (it wasn't just the multiple flagships talk), and their new President has seemed to smooth over things with us since Ono hit the road. The problems with other public universities has never been on us. It's their jealousy and attempts to damage Ohio State in the vain hope that they could fill the vacuum that's been the problem.
Well, there was the Damon Flint matter. But I think you are just speaking to academics.
