Miami (OH) Redhawks (Basketball Official Thread)

Rumor has it that the Miami BOT is deciding this month on go/no go on a new arena. Millett turns 60 in two years and has long been due for a makeover.

Over 10k (new attendance record) were at last Saturday’s game against No Illinois and at least 10k are expected for the game against Ohio on 2/13.

BTW: Miami women are also undefeated in the MAC so far this season and set a single game attendance record last Saturday.

Will be interesting if they pull the trigger.

Miami's "new" hockey arena is 10+ years old but still shines based on it's excellent upkeep.
I was up there 4 weeks ago for a swim meet with my kids and the Ice center was packed as they were having "open skate" on an auxiliary rink and a youth hockey tournament in the main rink.

Ice arena's have the ability to offset cost by opening up to the public. More difficult for basketball arenas unless it's also acting as a concert space.

This. Beat these retards, they don't deserve our respect. This isn't the Wolverines of yesteryear these are mouthy, classless, fucktards who play psychological games and will try and hurt our Dudes. Win, and put the backups in. Fuck em.

and lay out some punishments to deter others.

ONLY reason I don't like him at RB is his style.. If he has a chance to break away or hammer into 3 defenders, he goes full bull and looks to make contact.. I worry about health at the college level if he continues that at RB
What I loved about Eddie George. He had a sense of when to break for the distance and when to put someone on his ass. Dobkins too.

Jury Duty

Had been called a few times in the past. Only ever seated once, but we never heard the case. Court clerk released us and since we had officially been seated as a jury we did not have to come back. Never knew what it was about and the clerk said she never saw anything like it in her 20 years.

A couple of stories.

First, with the case above I was working for a local city at the time. My police chief couldn't believe they selected me for the jury, especially as I come from a family of cops. Also, I knew the judge and they still let me get through the selection.

Next, I used to live in a small town in the middle of nowhere. One time I reported to the county courthouse for selection. There were about 50 of us sitting there as part of the pool. They brought out the defendant, he took his seat, he turned around and looked at the pool, turned back, leaned over to his attorney, the attorney approached the bench, and then we were all dismissed. I knew the attorney in that case too and he said the client took his advice to not leave his fate in the hands of the jury. Let's just say the jury pool was not exactly made up of his peers.

I haven't been called again since I am now self-employed. Maybe once I am retired in 20 years.

2025-2026 Ohio State Men's Basketball

Win @Maryland or it's over. Could possibly pull the upset vs scum if we get the Home refs cooking like they did but there's no room for error.

Yep. If they lose to Maryland they probably have to beat 2 of the more upper level teams left on the schedule (scUM, Virginia, Sparty and Purdue) to make up for it, and that likely is not happening with this squad

Jury Duty

Got called a couple years ago and seated on a personal injury case for an auto accident. No question of guilt/blame but a question of whether the accident caused a new injury or exacerbated an existing injury. Seeing depositions from two different doctors that completely contradicted each other was fun. It was fairly interesting and mostly enjoyable.

Jury Duty

I've been summoned 4 times, but this week was the first I've ever gotten to go. I served on the grand jury - pretty freaking cool actually. we heard a bunch of different types of cases and really got a feel for what law enforcement is dealing with in our county.

Have you ever done it?
I have not but I once received a call from a man pretending to be a detective trying to solicit me for money because I "missed" a jury summons that never existed.

I have seen him play numerous times. My takeaway was 'this kid is a football player and plays with all heart.. get him on your team and figure out position later".. He's a mauler.. ONLY reason I don't like him at RB is his style.. If he has a chance to break away or hammer into 3 defenders, he goes full bull and looks to make contact.. I worry about health at the college level if he continues that at RB

I never saw the lightning speed but another poster sites that he has almost elite speed.. I've seen more of that speed this year than prior years.. He's note a juker..

OC Arthur Smith (Official Thread)

Will Howard was actually very solid. Krenzel was a serviceable game manager.
Will earned and deserves his legendary status, but winning rewrote his story. As did a system that let him fail twice (once with a big injury), before he was granted a third chance as a play-in game before the quarterfinals.

Stroud or Fields would have loved that redemption offer. Barrett would be debatable how it would go, because if he was not hit in the head 795 times by switching to a Ryan Day offense, it would be intriguing if he could match Will Howard's playoff run with that talent around him.

Seems like there's a number of long-in-the-tooth members here on BP. Do remember (circa 1955), asking Dad how can we have Hopalong Cassidy in the Buckeye backfield, when I watched him on TV that morning?.....
Way too early for me, but my equivalent was Nathan Williams who played RB at Washington Courthouse and was very good. He ended up at the "Viper" DE/LB spot here, but he was really tough to bring down at RB (speaking from experience having played against him).

On that note, had anyone who has watched him play have any strong convictions that Feister will play offense or defense at the next level?

Advice on books to read

Or, you could just rewatch "Rise of the Machines". Certainly can believe that super intelligent AI constructs would view humans as flawed. Hopefully there's an alternative path where the constructs 'help' the humans become better, rather than be totally irradicated. Do want to purchase the CIA book, might start seeing spooks everywhere. Thanks for the reading tips. Am currently immersed in 'swords & sorcery', and future history of earthlings entering the cosmic stars....
