2025-2026 College Basketball General Discussion

Indiana gets a home court BS foul call with 2.8 secs left as Wilkerson was falling down and the defender just backs up and lets him fall and the ref calls a foul with Indiana down 1 with 2.8 left. After 2 made FT's and Wisky with 2 timeouts they throw the ball near half court and instead of calling timeout and still having 2.5 left and 1 more timeout the guy chucks a 50 footer and misses by a mile.

Hard to believe the ref called that foul.
Awful call by the refs. Bailed out IU player who was out of control, body-searching and falling off-balance on his own. Wiscy deserved to win that game.

Bracketology and Selection Sunday Discussion

My scarlet and gray glasses in no way project tOSU as a #4 seed. For most of year, have been hearing 'on the bubble' or 'first team out', so being one of top 16 teams (4 areas, times fourth seed) seems a bit out there. Have no earthly idea where they rank in the basketball world, but when one looks at the B10 teams ranked, gotta believe the Selection Committee might say 'enough with the B10', and leave our beloved Buckeyes out in the cold. Hope not, and might cause some noise if included, so am hoping it happens.
Talking about the women's team?

2026 Winter Olympics (Milan - Cortina, Feb 6-20)

Not even for the ‘excitement‘ of showing whether the final few skiers are able to knock an American out of a gold medal.

The media will spend more time on somebody who didn’t last 15 seconds on the course than they will on the gold medalist. But Breezy will have that gold medal forever.

Exactly what I was watching. From watching those last ~10 skiers on Peacock, I understand now that there was no realistic chances that any of them were going to beat her time, but they gave zero explanation of any of it. Just "Oh, she's probably going to win the gold" and then cut away. I was completely lost seeing online that there were still skiers to go but cutting away and saying she was going to win the gold.

Plus:
European skier has slight issue and is .5 seconds back at the midway point -- announcers: "Oh, there's no coming back from that" and then talks about Lindsey Vonn for the rest of the run. European skier finishes 4th with barely a mention.
Random American skier is 1.5 seconds at the midway point -- announcers: "Look at Bella go! She's just such an intense skier! Amazing!" Then she finishes 23rd out of the 24 skiers that had made it all the way down at that point. :slappy:

I wish there was another way to watch this. NBC sucks.

Yeah, that was ugly. Sad way to end

Biennial rant about how shitty the NBC coverage is. Announcers can’t muster even the slightest bit of excitement for non-Americans. Cutting away from coverage of an event before it’s done.

Miami (OH) Redhawks (Basketball Official Thread)

Thanks Gollum. As stated, moving back to C'bus (putting in a home bid as we speak), and figured would be a nice fall trip with wife, back to good old mother Miami. Stay at Heuston Woods, played the golf course many a time, but never stayed at the lodge. Graduated in 1971, so might expect that it would be a bit dated. Used to be in a state park, so probably didn't get the update attention that needed. Oh, well, will be a nice fall trip. Don't remember my days there as memorable, other than uptown at the bars....

Professional Players Returning to College

Guess was napping when NCAA changed their rules.....once you took a nickel by performing in a sport, you were banned from playing that sport at the collegiate level. Although, QB from Stanford played baseball in the Yankee system, for money, and then played football on the gridiron for the Cardinal. Name escapes me, but world beater for Denver. Nice summer job.

2026 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

Will watch to see whether the 'wanna be a Buckeye' idea lasts past Coach Mick's winter training. And when one starts jacking weights next to someone who's competing for your position. Plus who's ahead of you on the two-deep. All sorts of 'what-ifs' abound. Yeah, do hope that this class stays relatively intact. For whatever reason, don't believe tOSU will be going after many 'projects' as normally do, probably more wanting to harvest from the portal. Noticed there was a fair amount of Ohio players that both left, and were in the mix to come back to Ohio...Also believe that a couple of classes were gutted by the portal, which leaves a vaccuum to be filled, hopefully by this year's recruits. Lastly, if one recruits based on NIL, then that recruit will be swayed by some other team illegally contacting a player for more cash/playing time etc.

Deion Sanders (HC Colorado, Father of SubPrime)

Any NFL franchise that would even consider hiring a guy who has a 16-21 record coaching major college football as their head coach deserves to fold. It's easy to say "no way" when nobody is ever going to ask.

Thread of What You've Eaten, Cooked and/or Drunk Lately

Smiled at your comments Jwin...lived in SF for 14 years, and was awestruck by the architecture downtown and in some of the near-in areas. Of course, some of the more 'elegant' areas had the better lines to the houses, and in the avenues, still had some, but more were cookie cutter type of houses. (Little boxes on the hillside reference South SF), and were just that, as seen from the 101. Anyway, the prices of those little boxes has skyrocketed as well, and the ethnic eateries most anywhere, usually run by those from other lands, are almost always good. If they're not, then they don't last very long....PS, from SF, moved to Dallas, where was all steel/chrome and glass. Not much architectural diversity.

Ohio State Men's Ice Hockey (2019 B1G Champions)

One thing about these difficult rebuilding seasons under Rohlik is that he always has the team showing real improvement late in the season, and then they come out strong the next year. If history is any predictor, we'll be picked to finish last in the B1G next year yet will end up making the tournament.

Ohio State Women's Basketball (2023-24 B1G CHAMPS)

Will state that am impressed that Elsa has grown from last to this year. Still hasn't got that 'mean streak' in her, but she's trying. Hobbs can give her a blow, but uncomfortable with Hobbs in during a comeback etc. Kitts seems to 'fill in the cracks' well on the glass. Don't know who's the bigs coach, but wish they'd work with Elsa on facing the basket. Other than the occasional 3, when she faces, she doesn't drive. Hey, if she's on the free throw line, pop one or two, so the D big doesn't sag in the middle. (Took me more than a few years to do that, but my back to the basket game was pretty solid)....

Wow, what great publicity for the program. Build that woman her god dawned arena, Slapshot.

Cleveland Cavs (2016 NBA Champions)

Figured it would be a weird first game, but didn't expect them to need a come-from-behind win. Apparently Harden wasn't even allowed to participate in a practice before the game due to league rules for completion of the trade. He could watch and listen, but that was it. Hopefully we will see continuous improvement from here forward.
