NHL (Official Thread)

Year in and year out their farm club is one of the best. Yet, somehow they can’t translate that up with all the talent they foster.

I think it’s time for Stevie Y to hit the road. His star has definitely dimmed and he’s done nothing as GM.
Saying he's done nothing is a stretch. As you said, their farm system is probably the best in the NHL. Considering where it was when Ken Holland left, that definitely isn't nothing.

Their biggest issue remains goaltending. All the talent on the farm and none of the goaltending has translated at all.

Larkin moving on might be the best thing for the Wings. He's not good enough fundamentally to base their entire roster around and that's what happened (like a Datsyuk or a Zetterberg), and he's not a superstar level dude like Yzerman or Fedorov were.

Where I went to high school along the Colorado river in western AZ it was pretty secluded and at night you could hear all of the frogs, toads, crickets and on moonless nights you could see all of the stars. I kind of miss that.
As a kid in Vermont, I had the stars and lots of fireflies.

My dad did a year in Vietnam in 1966-67, and one of the stories he shared was about one of the guys he was quartered with (elevated tent a few inches above mud and puddles during monsoon season) who was near the end of his tour and snapped due to the incessant tree frog noise. Apparently, the guy ran out of the tent with a broom or rake or something similar and started smashing the ground and yelling to shut them up. Everything went silent and the guy came back into the tent satisfied. Then about a minute later they heard a chirp/croak, then a few more, and then the cacophony was back in full effect.

WR Jeremiah Smith (All B1G, B1G Freshman of Year, B1G WR of Year, Unanimous All-American, 2025 Rose Bowl Off MVP, National Champion)

Compare this guy to Underwood. One guy has been the best player in the sport since he stepped on the field and is still the hardest worker in practice, blocks his ass off, roots his ass off for WR2 and is the most solid teammate in the locker room. The other guy is a $12M mouth.

tdfbia certainly stumbled into one truism. There really is a fundamental culture difference between the two programs.
