2025 scUM Shenanigans, Arguments, etc.

I have it from a reliable source that Ono is on the spectrum for asskissers syndrome.
There is something wrong with that guy. I mean clinically, deeply wrong in the head. He's a self-obsessed, self-promoting charlatan who's obsessed with being buddies with football players who would have dunked his head in a toilet in high school. He's not a well man and certainly not someone who should be running a Big Ten university.

This is probably all true (he's full of shit and not worth the trouble etc) but we are only getting one side of the story like this.

Just because Josh Heupel says something, doesn't exactly make it so.

I'll just give zero fucks and trust Day on anything QB related. If he is actually after the kid then it tells us one thing, if this is all agent press bullshit and he ends up in Colorado it tells us another.

Cleveland Browns (Factory of Sadness)

Deshaun Watson insurance policy provides silver lining for Browns

The Browns have finally admitted that the Deshaun Watson contract was a disaster. Within the perpetual storm cloud is a silver lining, however.

The contract, a copy of which PFT has obtained, contains an insurance addendum that allows the Browns to purchase coverage "in the event player is unable to perform the services required by his NFL Player Contract due to an NFL football-related or non-football related injury or death resulting therefrom."

For an injury occurring between the start of the 2024 offseason program and the start of the 2025 offseason program, the contract allows for $58.176 million to be recovered by the Browns.

The formula is as follows: $12.691 million in 2024 signing bonus; $1.21 million in 2024 base salary; and $44.274 million of $46 million in 2025 base salary.

Watson suffered a torn Achilles in Week 7 of the 2024 season. If the insurance is based on the portion of the season Watson played, they'd presumably get all of the $12.691 million from the 2024 signing bonus (which was more than $40 million), less than half of his $1.21 million 2024 base salary, and (if as expected he doesn't play in 2025) $44.274 million for 2025.

It's more than $55 million of the $230 million albatross contract. Which will reduce the salary-cap pain. Given that $135 million of the $230 million deal has yet to hit the cap, that'll make a huge difference for the Browns in the coming years.

If, that is, they actually collect on the policy. Insurance companies love taking money in. They hate paying money out. And with more than $55 million on the line, the insurance company's lawyers will be scouring the policy for any and all exceptions or exclusions that would justify a denial....

It seems the Ohio State football program has broken Tennessee

The Ohio State football program seems to have broken the Volunteers as a program.

images%2FImagnImages%2Fmmsport%2F151%2F01jrkff8m4yr6axcccsn.jpg

The Ohio State football program took down Tennessee in the first round of the College Football Playoff. It was complete domination from the Buckeyes, taking them down 42-17. Had they not held up in the second half, things could have been worse for the Volunteers.

Since that loss, things have gone from bad to worse for the Vols. While the Ohio State Buckeyes went on to win the national championship, Meanwhile, the Volunteers are involved in a very rocky Spring, which is when fans are supposed to be the most excited about their team.

Nico Iamaleava is involved in quite a controversy. The starting quarterback is allegedly asking for more NIL money from the Vols after just one year as a starter. He tried to do it in the winter and has now sat out a Spring practice as NIl negotiations continue. Did Ohio State break Tennessee?

Did the Ohio State football team break Tennessee?

The Buckeyes may have crushed Tennessee to the point that they will not be able to hold onto their starting quarterback, despite building their whole offense around him. That would be a devastating development for a program that finally achieved something last season.

Irrelevance was a really hard place for the Vols to be, and they were there for 25 years. Only in the last couple of years did they finally start sniffing the College Football Playoff. They finally made it last season, but it looks like they are poised to take a major step back.

Why the Ohio State football team should stay far away from Nico Iamaleava

With Tennessee moving on from him, the Buckeyes should not pursue him in the transfer portal.

images%2FImagnImages%2Fmmsport%2F151%2F01jrn5wef54v2ne2zhb5.jpg

The Ohio State football team is in a quarterback battle right now with Julian Sayin and Lincoln Kienholz. It's a battle that seems to be neck-and-neck, according to what Ryan Day has said. No decision will likely be made until the start of Fall practice.

Ohio State feels really good about the options they have at quarterback they feel that either of them is good enough to lead this team as they try to defend a national championship. Both have shown enough talent that the Buckeye coaching staff feels comfortable naming either player a starter.

Nico Iamaleava is a talented quarterback who played for Tennessee last year. I say last year because the Vols have decided to move on from him after he tried to extract more NIL money from the Vols. Many have speculated that the Buckeyes should go after him in the transfer portal.

Why the Ohio State football team should not pursue Nico Iamaleava

Even though Iamaleava is very talented, this is one player the Buckeyes should not pursue in the transfer portal. He clearly became enough of a distraction from this move that the Vols did not want to have him on their team. He clearly isn't good enough to warrant whatever price he is trying to get.

In his final game with the Vols, he was just 14-31 for 104 yards against the Ohio State Buckeyes. Is that a stat line good enough to warrant a raise in NIL money? Definitely not. Ohio State already has two more talented quarterbacks on their current roster anyway.

Iamaleava is not worth the headache to pursue in the portal. Ryan Day has built a strong culture within the team that is focused on winning. Everyone is getting their fair share of NIL money, too. They feel both Sayin and Tavien St. Clair have more talent than Iamaleava.

Just sayin':

1) Yeah, definitely Ohio State should pass on him.

2) "Per sources: Nico Iamaleava has been in contact with 3 schools that have agreed to construct a deal if he left Tennessee." Colorado/Prime Time seems like a good fit for Nico. I wonder if "the sources" are basically his agent who actually called Ohio State, not Ohio State calling him. The agent may be just trying to drive up Colorado's offer by making them think there are other schools in the bidding for Nico.

Ohio State vs Virginia 02/22/25 | Ohio State Athletics

The Buckeyes will look to extend their winning streak to 12 games when they take on the Terrapins at the Ohio State Lacrosse Stadium.

Ohio State football isn’t the only Buckeye team hitting the field in Columbus on Saturday. The second-ranked men’s lacrosse team has a huge game, as they’ll be hosting the sixth-ranked Maryland Terrapins in the final regular season home game of the season for the Buckeyes. Ohio State will be looking for its first win over the Terrapins since 2018, and its first win in Columbus over Maryland since an 11-10 triumph in overtime back in 2017.

The Buckeyes enter today’s game against Maryland with an 11-1 record, their only loss coming at the hands of Utah to kick off the season. Since then, Ohio State has won 11 straight games, the latest being a 14-10 victory over Johns Hopkins. The Buckeyes jumped out to a 3-0 lead early in the first quarter, pushing their advantage over Maryland to 8-3 at halftime. The Terrapins would get as close as 10-8, but Nick Myers’ team would regain its focus to earn its first win over Johns Hopkins since 2021, becoming the first Big Ten team this season to earn three conference wins.

Leading the charge for Ohio State against Johns Hopkins was Alex Marinier, who scored six goals on his way to earning his fourth Big Ten Player of the Week honor. The only game this season where Marinier netted more goals was when he scored seven goals in a win over Air Force back in February. Marinier now has 40 goals this season, making him the 15th player in Ohio State history to record at least 40 goals in a season.

Along with Marinier, Ohio State has six other players who have scored at least 10 goals this season. Garrett Haas had three goals in the win over Johns Hopkins, pushing his season total to 20 goals. Ryan Donnery has 17 goals, Ed Shean has scored 14 times, and Shane O’Leary has 13 goals to round out this season’s top five when it comes to goal scoring on the team. Jack McKenna currently has the team lead with 14 assists.

Patrolling the goal for the Buckeyes is Caleb Fyock, who is coming off a 15-save performance against Johns Hopkins to earn his 11th victory of the season. Fyock is a perfect 11-0 with a 7.13 goals against average and a .626 save percentage. Ohio State has one of the toughest defenses to crack in the country, allowing just 102 goals through their first 12 games of the season. By comparison, the Buckeye offense has scored 160 goals.

Maryland enters today’s game with an 8-2 record this year, but the Terrapins have struggled recently, losing two of their last three games. The latest loss was an 8-6 setback at Rutgers. Even with their recent slump, Maryland is still one of the most dangerous teams in the country. The Terrapins were runners-up last year, falling to Notre Dame 15-5 in the title game. The last national championship for Maryland came in 2022. Since joining the Big Ten in 2015, head coach John Tillman has led the program to seven Final Four appearances.

Powering the Maryland offense is Eric Spanos, who has 19 goals and 11 assists this season> Braden Erska and Daniel Kelly each have 18 goals, while Matthew Keegan has netted 14 goals, and Bryce Ford has been credited with 13 goals for a Terrapin offense that has scored 110 goals this season. The defense has allowed just 76 goals, with Logan McNaney patrolling the goals, posting an 8-2 record with a 7.47 goals against average, and a .615 save percentage.

Even though this game is the final regular-season home game for Ohio State this year, the seniors will likely get another chance to soak in their final home game when they play in the Big Ten Tournament, which will be played at campus sites. Since they have already excelled in conference play this year, the Buckeyes have pretty much assured themselves of at least one more game in Columbus.

Despite attention in Columbus being given to football’s spring game, this lacrosse contest is massive. Ohio State needs a win over a Maryland team that is often in the Final Four to show Nick Myers’ team they can take down some of the top talent in the country. Even though Ohio State has earned its highest ranking in school history, they don’t want to waste a season like this by getting bounced from the NCAA Tournament early. A win over the Terrapins could truly show the Buckeyes that they belong in the conversation with some of the perennial lacrosse powers.

Reason 1,412 that I <3 Sweden

saunas probably help to body sweat out the depression and seasonal affect disorder.

i have a theory that that's also why we feel better after physical activity where we sweat a lot... yes endorphins and what have you, but i think we don't fully grasp the full health benefits of fully utilizing the body's built-in mechanism for pushing out bad things and allow the metabolic system to repair and reset.

EDIT: i came in fully intending to make a joke about saunas... but it actually got me thinking.
Legalized prostitution is also a huge contributor.

Hooters goes tits up...

PE is coming farther and farther down into main street and yes, the downside is typically a degradation of service and that small company feel we are used to with locally owned, mom and pop type businesses.

The trade off though, is that the vast majority of those businesses would be going away if someone didn't step in to be the succession plan that the Boomer owners don't have. Think of things like your local HVAC, garbage collection, plumbers, Doctor offices...all of these (and more) are the type of things some Boomer has made a nice living off of by providing a good service to a small market. Now that Boomer has to retire somehow (father time is undefeated) and that otherwise healthy little business is at risk because 1) there are not enough people to take them over, 2) it's very difficult for people who would want to take it over to obtain the kind of financing that makes the deal make sense for both parties and 3) there is an even smaller section of that smaller work population that has the skills these jobs require.

Small business ownership is the best path to wealth in this country and the vast majority of people who could do it with the right support (training, education, financial) are going to get locked out of it because PE is going to step in. Not because they are heartless monsters but because of demographic and economic trends.

It's a massive issue underlying the already choppy economic waters, it just doesn't get the press

Ohio State Wrestling (2015/2017/2018 B1G Champs, 2015 National Champs, 2019 National Runners-up)

Couldn't help but shed some tears listening to that. Outstanding young man for forgiving the criminals, because I sure can't. A dream was taken over a senseless crime. But I think he will have a very bright future whatever he endeavors in, will be rooting for Sammy in everything he does moving forward.

BP Fantasy Baseball (2008-2024, Current Champion = MD Buckeye again)

Somehow Lars fucking Nootbaar has been one of my better hitters, so "Lars and the Real Girls" it is for now.

Lars and The Real Girls are engaged in the most crippled of cripple fights with my pack of mo's this week.

I'm thinking my pitchers would do better if they tossed it to the hitter underhand. Reduce some of the exit velo that way. Probably safer for fans in the outfield seats.
