Look Who's Transferring Now (The Portal)

Login to view embedded media They'll find homes, itll just be at lower levels. Schools like UT- Martin, BG, UNC- Wilmington, FIU and the likes about to get an infusion of talent
Exactly.

Now how many thousands of guys get cut from NFL, MLB,NHL,NBA rosters every year and that’s the end of their sports career?

Sportswriters need to drop the sanctimonious bullshit about “education”. They are pro athletes trying to advance their athletic careers.

Nothing stopping anyone from going to school if they want to.

Nico Iamaleava (QB Tennessee, bad poker player, transfer to UCLA)

ESPN: UCLA has had conversations with representatives of transfer quarterback Nico Iamaleava for less money than he was asking for from Tennessee, sources told ESPN on Wednesday.

“Family still claims it’s NOT about the money. It’s about the Vol Football offense.”

Where was the last place you went on vacation?

I"m so glad I visited multiple times in my younger years some of the "better" national parks as I will never be going again unless they implement some draconian visitor limits which would never happen due to the loss of money:

Yosemite
Tetons/Yellowstone
Grand Canyon
Arches
Zion
Bryce

Went to Olympic in May 2024 and it was pretty sparse and had a great time. When I go to UDub game in September I'll try to hit Rainer or North Cascades.

My friend basically said to me once "Social media has ruined Zion National Park" and I agree with that sentiment 100%.

Head-coaching comings and goings

Sources: Charlie Ward to become Florida A&M basketball coach

Former Heisman Trophy winner and first-round NBA draft pick Charlie Ward is set to become the men's basketball coach at Florida A&M, sources told ESPN.

Ward is finalizing a deal to become the Rattlers' coach, sources said. The school's board has a meeting scheduled for 3 p.m. ET Wednesday, when there is an agenda item to approve the contract of a new men's basketball coach.

Ward, 54, was the 1993 Heisman Trophy winner at Florida State and played in the NBA from 1994 to 2005. He played primarily for the New York Knicks but finished his career playing for both the San Antonio Spurs and Houston Rockets.

Ward brings a diverse résumé of basketball coaching experience. He was an assistant coach with the Rockets for two seasons in 2005-06 and 2006-07 and a high school head coach in Tallahassee and with USA basketball.

WR Nolan Baudo (National Champion)

Bryson Rodgers Calls Nolan Baudo Ohio State’s “Glue Guy”

“Nolan Baudo, he’s a walk-on,” Rodgers said. “He’s a glue guy to our room. Guys like that, people don’t understand how much of an impact they truly are. Like, they might think, ‘Well, he’s a walk-on. He’s just taking up space. We can recruit better guys.’ Well, nah. We got guys like that who really glue our rooms together — that make us even more closer and make us play even more harder for each other. Shout out to my guy Nolan Baudo, for sure.

“He’s definitely a glue piece to our whole team. Everybody loves him. Everybody loves his energy, his passion, and even though he doesn’t really impact as much as us on the field as a player, he has an incredible impact in the locker room. When we’re out together, doing stuff, he just has a certain energy to him that’s contagious and everybody loves and makes our team better.”

LB Marcus Freeman (HC Notre Dame, Constant Backtracker)

“BE WHERE YOUR FEET ARE.” Jim Tressel offered Marcus Freeman the best advice he’s ever received.

In an appearance on Next Up with Adam Breneman, Freeman discussed what he’s learned as Notre Dame’s head football coach, how the Irish will bounce back from their national championship loss to the Buckeyes and more.

Part of the “and more” includes the wisdom Tressel imparted to him after Freeman left his role as a graduate assistant at Ohio State to become the linebackers coach at Kent State.

“Be where your feet are,” Freeman said, reflecting on the advice Tressel shared with him before he departed Columbus. “It probably meant something different when he told me as I was getting ready to leave Ohio State to go to Kent State than it does right now. To me, I use that to remember, like, focus on what’s in front of you. Don’t waste time daydreaming about an uncertain future or things that don’t matter. Use your energy on the things that matter.”

That’s not coaching or football advice.

That’s life advice.

And it’s darn good.

The Hurry-Up: Identifying Four Defensive Linemen Ohio State Could Pursue in the Transfer Portal This Spring

155830_h.jpg

Beau Atkinson, North Carolina

Atkinson has had a productive two-year career with the North Carolina Tar Heels, recording 54 tackles, 11 sacks and one forced fumble across two seasons. Last season, he notched 35 tackles and 7.5 sacks. Per Pro Football Focus’ grades, Atkinson recorded an overall grade of 77 in 2024, which is considered above average. He graded 74.3 in run defense and scored 76.2 in pass rushing over 381 defensive snaps a year ago.

Joshua Horton, Miami

As he departs Miami, though, Horton is more of a project than a ready-made contributor. Horton played for the Hurricanes for two seasons, only appearing in seven games and recording four total tackles.

De’Marion Thomas, Vanderbilt

Last season, Thomas racked up 34 tackles and a sack. Per PFF’s grades, Thomas recorded an overall grade of 57.7, which is considered slightly below average. He earned a 58 in run defense and 56.8 in pass rush. If nothing else, Thomas would give Ohio State proven experience at defensive tackle.

TJ Bush, Liberty

Bush received high marks from PFF last year, recording an overall grade of 78.4, a run defense grade of 75, a pass rush mark of 75.1 and a pass coverage grade of 75.4.

USC Trojans (official thread)

"Crimson Avalanche" still makes me cringe every time I hear it. Completely blown opportunity for an all-time call.

Obviously, Fowler is no Brent Musburger:

They're going to show the I-Back behind the Fullback on Fourth down. It could be up to the Offensive Line...no, Krenzel's going to throw for it! Gotta get it off! They go for the ballgame...touchdown! Touchdown! Michael Jenkins! On Fourth and One! Would you believe it?! Craig Krenzel strikes with a minute and a half left! Holy Buckeye!— Brent Musburger, calling the play on ABC television

In any event, the call will be synonymous with Musburger forever and Ohio State fans won't be quick to forget it.
