2025 College Football Playoffs Discussion (12 Team Format)

Personally, I'd rather teams that won a conference championship (any conference) have a shot than teams that finished fucking 5th in a conference. I felt this way last year, too, though I'm happy we won it all, I'm not really sure we "deserved" to be there. But I guess I'm a traditionalist who remembers when 1 loss was basically the death knell for being called "national champion" but we still had the chance to win the B1G and go to the Rose Bowl.

I feel like the 5th best SEC/B1G team is way better than the best Mountain West team and don't care to see the MWC team get ass pounded in a tournament just to be "fair" to little guys.

Domer tears are sweet stuff but the 12 team field would be better with them and one more major team in it than this JMU, Tulane nonsense.

Indiana Hoosiers (2025 National Champions)

Don't know about the stats, but watching the game I felt like we had been outplayed most of it. Hell, go back to the game thread (I'm not going to) and you can quote my halftime comment about being outplayed but still winning. We finally played in the 4th quarter (until their final kill clock drive giving up that long bomb), but came up short with some shit 3rd and 1 play calls and shit execution on a QB sneak and FG. Unfortunately, that's a game where you can't basically take 3 quarters off and come away with a win. I'm mostly talking offense here, as the defense did well and were on the field a lot.

I don’t even see the new league as being just the BIG/SEC. Some of those teams don’t belong in the Super Teams League. Rutgers see ya, Miss St you’re out, etc. Best 32 teams.

Exactly.

The little guys are going to fight like mad though. They know damn good and well that only a handful of teams actually move the needle and they are just trying desperately to come along for the ride.

The most Cincinnati thing I will see today. So many of these traitorous pricks within Hamilton County. Look at me! I root for Michigan! I am so different and special!

Fuck them all to hell. [rant complete]
my brother is one of those pricks, though we were mostly Clermont County growing up.

At what point do we divorce, in this case, Buckeye FB from the University? When I say that, my thought is that you buy/lease the right to the use the name, mascot, stadium, facilities, etc.

No idea on timing but that's what I'd do and how I'd do it. Central Ohio sports ventures LLC or whatever, playing every game as The Ohio State Buckeyes. The University gets a big share of the revenue as a licensing deal. Name, mascot, stadium the works.

Players get a GI Bill like voucher to go to school there at some point and free lifetime healthcare. Let the quality of the education and health care be a differentiator for talent acquisition.

NFL Discussion (Official Thread)

Yeah he made me look like a real asshole last year. I always argued with my friends that he wasn't reliable because he's always trying to hit an 80 yarder when the situation only calls for like 5. The problem was he would hit those 80 yard runs almost weekly. I guess this is the football version of "live by the 3, die by the 3".

He's still a fucking stud, though. My initial analysis might have been slightly clouded by where he went to school just a little bit.
More importantly, he wasn't throwing the ball to the other team at a rate of 1 per quarter.

Buckeyes have probably explored something similar. As far as I know, they don’t have the single multi-billion dollar “sports fan” donor that some other schools are seeing pop up. Or they maybe have one but the athletic department won’t touch that (also don’t think he cares about athletics). Obviously we’re doing alright for now but…

MSU just got $400M from Greg Williams + Mat Ishbia played for Izzo and owns the Suns, Mark Cuban is a huge IU fan (played rugby there), Dolphins owner Stephen Ross is involved at TTUN, BYU has the Utah Jazz owner sinking money (plus Crumbl Cookies owner? lol). You know Texas has oil industry crazed sports guys. Etc etc.

What OSU does have is a brand and fanbase that is worth a lot. If the Big Ten doesn’t agree to something on the whole, I can easily see them looking for outside investment to keep up.

Who knows, I may live to see some Saudi Prince owning the Ohio State Football Club like we’re Manchester City someday.

*Bucks do have a ton of NFL guys with record contracts at least. But that’s not billionaire status and I’m not sure how much they contribute to NIL
It's a culture that goes back to Woody. The AD focused on building a huge mass of small to medium donors instead of the tejas big cigar types. The goal was to keep donor influence to a minimum. Woody had a famous quote about it, "one year they buy you a Cadillac and the next year they buy you a tank of gas to get out of town."
