Uptempo also affects the defense. Going uptempo lessens the time that the defense has to read your intent and adjust accordingly. Slowing the game down has its own advantages.

I think you need to do both, perhaps even in the same drive.

Perceived deficits are not only monetary, respect, value, peer relations...all of these can trigger suboptimal thinking that result in really stupid decisions. I think that, given trends in the US, we must admit with regret that Harbaugh played this about as well as he could. He disgusts me, but he played the game legally as best he could according to the outcomes he wanted, and he showed that "a real Michigan Man" could care less what happened to TCUN or college football for that matter. Still, he comes out the other end with a great pay packet and a job in a sunny place and I wonder what he sees when he looks in the mirror.
