NFL Discussion (Official Thread)

California’s “jock taxes” force pro athletes who don’t live in the state to fork over percentages of their yearly income based on the number of days they work in California.

Sam Darnold received $178k for winning the Super Bowl.
He owes California $249k for just the Super Bowl (they factor is his per game salary based on his annual contract)

He also owes a whole bunch more because he played 49ers and Rams in CA as well

That’s pretty standard for states and cities and certainly not exclusive to California. If you work in a state, you pay taxes there. Columbus taxes any pro athlete, entertainer, and/or public speakers for even a single day worked in the city.

This is a legit NFLPA situation.
I would hope the league would pressure those states to offer some relief.

BuckeyePlanet Calls for Aid! -- Let this be the hour!

Just cashed out my Kroger shopper card’s cash and thought about combining that with my Buckeye Planet fantasy baseball winnings from last year for my initial donation of $39.50. Nevermind, I don’t like you guys well enough to donate my fantasy baseball winnings, so I am taking that back. But I went ahead and donated my Kroger cash anyways for a grand total of, you guessed it, $39.50…

2025-2026 Ohio State Men's Basketball

Couldn’t agree more. The majority of Ohio State fans are not enthusiastic enough about the program to generate enough money to make a material difference. Minor example: When you purchase concessions at the Schott you’re asked if you want to round up for NIL. Me and all of my buddies decline to roundup because the product / fan experience / cost of going to a game is such a turnoff. If the basketball program is depending on fans to help dig this program out nothing is going to change.
Good point. OSU has been squeezing fans financially as much as they can with all aspects of the gameday experience, and they want to turn to the fans for even more money to fund NIL. Kind of falls flat when you have been taxing people so much that you've ruined the experience, fans have turned away from you and stop coming to most of the games. They want you to spend hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars for season tickets, pay out the nose for parking, pay inflated amounts for unhealthy, mediocre food, at an arena that was designed for making money with concerts to the point that it doesn't work well for basketball, and keep coming back for more even though they couldn't find a way to actually give Diebler enough NIL funds to add top-tier transfers.
