counterpoint:I'm going to touch on this on our podcast this week.
Why were Saban, Miles, and O (as well as 3 Baseball coaches) all able to reach the mountaintop at LSU but Kelly wasn't?
those 3 all got to LSU at a point in their careers where they all still had something to prove. They all knew LSU could provide all of the pieces to be able to prove it, but they also knew that THEY had to prove it. And all of them did whatever it took to get there. They approached the job with the same passion the fans have for the team. They chased Championships. And all 3 got one.
Kelly came here with just one piece missing from his resume. Probably was getting into the Hall of Fame even with that piece missing.
Kelly approached the job as if LSU being LSU would be enough on its own to bring a title to him. He didn't chase it. He expected it to fall in his lap. It was like he truly believed it was ND's fault he didn't already have one and that LSU would just give him one if he just graced us with his presence.
And honestly, the team even looked like they too thought they just had to "show up" to win.
and as we all know, College Football doesn't work that way.
you have to go out and take it.
yeah LSU has every conceivable tool you'll ever need to win titles. But if you don't use every single one of them, you ain't gonna win one, because somebody else out there is using all of his.
with the Defense LSU fielded last year, y'all may have scored 100Damn. I would have loved to have played LSU last year. Result might have been more fun than the Tennessee game.
Kelly spent his time at Cincinnati pissing and moaning about Ohio State to the media. He was smart enough to butter up to the HS coaches in the Cincinnati area and then convinced local kids who would have ridden the pine for 2 or 3 years at a level 1 school to stay home and start. He got butts into the stands at Nippert by creating local heroes. And then, at the pinnacle of his sucess, he said one thing on Friday and, "Kiss my ass, enjoy YOUR bowl game, my ass is headed to South Bend," on Monday. Self-centered, ego-driven, asshole pretty much sums it up.
ND to LSU worked out so well for the last guy. I’m sure Freeman would jump at it.

you can be a complete asshole if you dig a program up from the dead and raise them to National Prominence.
Nick Saban is the pasteboard for that. People hated Nick (the person) because of how driven he was and it was obvious his way worked.
you can also be a complete idiot as long as you can at least maintain that level of relevance. Les was a literal cartoon character. But he was fun guy to hang around with and he kept the program at a high enough level long enough to stick around for over a decade.
you can be an illiterate ogre as long as your winning. O is borderline mentally handicapped (and that's not really joking). When we were winning, that was fine. Not real funny when the winning stopped.
but what you cannot be is a condescending dickhead if you aren't bringing home titles. plain and simple.
Les and O were given more rope than Kelly because their personalities were a lot easier to tolerate.
Kelly treated everyone like they were beneath him. And if you're going to act like that, you better bring home Nick Saban level results.
When you lose to Vandy (first time since 1990 we've lost to them). When you lose at home to A&M (first time that's happened since '94), you need to have SOME sort of redeeming quality. Kelly has none of those.
and just like the last guy to lose a game to Vandy, or the last guy to lose at home to A&M, Kelly will not be coaching LSU the following season.
Christ. Thanks for letting them off the hook, NCAA....so we can listen to their idiot fans vaguely suggest maybe everybody else is cheating now that they suck again.Login to view embedded media Patricia has to be salivating watching this
