OC Arthur Smith (Official Thread)

Two ways to limit reps on the starters.

Play slow and bleed the clock or crash teams so hard and so fast that the starters are done by half time. Then slow the tempo.

IMO, they just need to mix it up. When we had to go fast we couldn’t do it. We need to be able to do it all.
I like the second option. Leave no doubt

NFL Combine Risers and Fallers: Sonny Styles Steals the Show

The Ohio State star turned heads with his standout performance on Thursday, improving his draft stock in the process.

Music played, drills progressed and a general sense of mundane overtook the air Thursday night at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Until Sonny Styles bent his knees, dropped his hips and leapt toward the rafters—and 43 ½ inches later, sent his onlooking peers into an eruption so loud, so unmistakable, it turned heads from the field to the sideline.

Styles delivered the best vertical jump of any player 6' 4" or taller and 240 pounds or heavier since 2003, his finest achievement on a day full of them. The Ohio State linebacker won the weigh-in, measuring 6' 5" at 244 pounds, and notched an 11’ 2” broad jump to pair with a 4.46 40-yard dash, tied with teammate Arvell Reese for the fastest of the day.

Thursday belonged to Styles, who’s in position to be a mid-first round pick in April. But several additional linebackers and defensive linemen impressed alongside him, while a few others did little to help their stock in Indianapolis.

Styles aside, here’s who’s rising and falling from the front seven after the NFL scouting combine’s opening night.

Ohio State @ Iowa, Wednesday Feb. 25, 9pm EST, BTN

They aren't firing Diebler after this year regardless of how it ends. Id be very shocked. Only situation I could maybe see that happening is if he clearly loses the team
That's what I'm saying. It looks like he's lost the team and 3 more losses would reaffirm.
FWIW, ESPN Jeff Borzello writer has reported that ISU coach T. J. Otzelberger as someone Ohio State might be interested in (should Diebler ever be fired).

Ohio State Buckeyes
It's only two years into Jake Diebler's tenure in Columbus, but the Buckeyes are squarely on the cutline for the NCAA tournament. If they don't hear their name on Selection Sunday, that will be two years without a tournament appearance for Diebler, four years for the program as a whole. The latest word out of Columbus is that he's probably safe for another season, but that could depend on what happens over the next three weeks. The school would be on the hook for just over $3 million.

T.J. Otzelberger, Iowa State
Otzelberger has established himself as one of the elite coaches in college basketball, and he signed a new contract in December 2024 with a restructured buyout that makes him potentially attainable. If Ohio State were to open, there's reason to believe the Buckeyes would look to gauge Otzelberger's interest. That said, he's happy in Ames, with no signs of him itching to leave, and he has a great relationship with Cyclones athletic director Jamie Pollard.

Pitching?

ERA
WHIP
Wins
K/BB
Saves+Hold
QS

Hitting?

HR
OBP
SLG
Net SB - What sucks about Net SB is you will receive a -1 for a caught stealing. I have played with this category in a former league and didn’t care for it because of this aspect of it.
Runs
XBH - Is this category necessary with HR and SLG already? Would it be better to keep RBI?

I would suggest these tweaks, but otherwise look good to me.
Thoughts tweaks comments?

Arvell Reese and Sonny Styles solidified their stock as the NFL draft’s top two linebackers at the 2026 NFL Scouting Combine.

Both former Ohio State linebackers ran the 40-yard dash in official times of 4.46 seconds, tying for the fastest time among all linebackers at this year’s NFL Scouting Combine.

I don’t understand separating out the OPS (on-base + slugging) into two separate categories. Why is this preferred to the current average and OPS? I like combining a traditional old-school stat like batting average, where there is a little luck and chance involved, with the OPS stat that rewards disciplined hitters with extra base hit capabilities. IMO, the current hitting categories are ideal.

I do understand updating some of the pitching categories. My preferred pitching categories are the following:
W - traditional old-school category where there is a little luck and chance involved
QS - rewards good starting pitchers that can make it deeper into games
Saves + holds - Combine the two categories to de-emphasize relievers
ERA
WHIP
K/9 - rewards quality pitchers in general either SP or relievers. I get where K/BB also does that too so don’t have strong feelings either way here.
